A comedy juggernaut hinging on uncomfortable situations with in-laws, the Meet the Parents franchise centers on the hilariously awkward and tension-filled dynamics between male nurse Greg Focker (Stiller) and his intimidating, ex-CIA father-in-law, Jack Byrnes (De Niro), watching as the dynamic between them both evolves and stays the same, as Greg marries Jack’s daughter, Pam...

Benedict Cumberbatch at an event for El Hobbit: La batalla de los cinco ejércitos (2014)
Benedict Cumberbatch says Hollywood is “grossly wasteful” with resources on film and TV projects
Benedict Cumberbatch at an event for El Hobbit: La batalla de los cinco ejércitos (2014)
While promoting his new film, Benedict Cumberbatch put in perspective how non-environmentally friendly Hollywood productions tend to be, as he appeared on the Ruthie’s Table 4 podcast. Cumberbatch inevitably fielded questions about being in the Marvel Universe and when he spoke about getting into shape for Doctor Strange, he mentioned how he had to eat five meals a day, plus snacks like boiled eggs, almonds and cheese in between meals in order to bulk up. Cumberbatch admitted how “it’s horrific eating beyond your appetite.”

Reminiscing about his meals got him thinking about how he found Hollywood productions less green. According to Variety, the Sherlock star said, “Going back to responsibility and resourcefulness and sustainability, it’s just like, ‘What am I doing? I could feed a family with the amount I’m eating.’” He would then continue to say,

It’s a grossly wasteful industry. Think about set builds that aren’t recycled,...

Brendan Fraser dramedy Rental Family lands awards season release from Searchlight
Brendan Fraser
It’s been over two years since Brendan Fraser won the Academy Award for Best Actor for The Whale. And while he has had supporting roles in films like Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon and Max Barbakow’s Brothers, he’s once again taking the marquee, as dramedy Family Rental has been announced for a November release via Searchlight Pictures.

In Family Rental – which was announced in November 2023 – Brendan Fraser plays a man hired by a rental family company, an actual service where people are given jobs as stand-ins for friends, family members, etc. – in Japan. It’s through this and his experiences along the way in which he learns far more about himself than he was expecting. With a November 21st release, Searchlight looks to be jockeying for another awards contender; with the themes at play, it also could make for a solid pre-Thanksgiving outing at the theater.

Stiller echoed the enthusiasm and said pop star Ariana Grande, newly cast as the formidable fiancée of Greg and Pam’s adult son, is “the whole engine of the movie”.

Ben Stiller Explains Why This Was the Right Time to Revisit ‘Meet the Parents’: “Life Informs Everything”
Image
Casting for Meet the Parents 4 is well underway, with Owen Wilson the latest star to rejoin the franchise with Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro and Teri Polo in the upcoming film that also has Ariana Grande on board.

But why was this the right time to revisit Meet the Parents? Stiller explained after a recent 25th anniversary screening of the original film at the 2025 Tribeca Festival.

“I think what spurred the idea was that at this point in time, I’m the age that Bob [De Niro] was when we did the first movie,” he said. “And there was this sort of mirror to the first film in terms of the fact that my kids are grown. And, yeah, that my kid, one of my kids, is thinking about introducing his person to the family.”

Owen Wilson, 56, To Reunite With Ben Stiller for a Long-Overdue Comedy Sequel
Image
There’s a new Focker in the family — and a familiar face is back to welcome the chaos. Owen Wilson is officially returning to Universal’s Meet the Parents franchise, rejoining Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, and Teri Polo for the long-awaited fourth installment, now slated to release on November 25, 2026.

Wilson, who stole scenes in the original 2000 comedy as Kevin Rawley, the absurdly perfect ex-boyfriend of Pam (Polo) with a penchant for carpentry and tiny Speedos on tap, is back in the fold. His character — a charming, spiritually enlightened, insufferable rich guy — became a fan-favorite and returned for both Meet the Fockers (2004) and Little Fockers (2010). Now, 14 years later, Kevin is back for more family madness.

Owen Wilson Will ‘Meet The Parents’ Again For Universal Fourthquel
Image
We’ve confirmed that Owen Wilson is returning for Meet the Parents 4 opposite Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Teri Polo and new castmember Ariana Grande.

Wilson played Kevin Rawley in the series, the ex-fiancé of Polo’s Pam. Fair to say that Stiller’s Greg, who is looking to get the approval of Pam’s rigid father, Jack Byrnes, (De Niro), is a bit jealous of Kevin. Kevin becomes a nuisance and Jack loves to throw Kevin up into Greg’s face. Wilson’s Kevin is wealthy, and a guy of all trades, including being a carpenter.

While the plot is underwraps, THR says that one plot point centers around the song of Greg and Pam, “who gets engaged to a ball-busting woman who seems all wrong for him.” Grande is the fiancée.

John Hamburg, who co-wrote all three prior films, wrote the screenplay and is set to helm.

Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro reunite, tease ‘Meet the Parents 4’
Image
Wanna feel old, Focker? Meet the Parents is turning 25 this October, and to mark the occasion, the cast — including Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, and Teri Polo — and director Jay Roach reunited at the Tribeca Film Festival over the weekend for a Q&a after an anniversary screening of the comedy.

And while the original movie was the night's main topic, the recently announced fourth movie in the series seemed to be on everyone's mind. Last month, it was announced that Academy Award nominee Ariana Grande would be joining the cast.

"I can’t really talk too much, I guess, at this point about the movie," Stiller. "But the character [Grande is] playing is — she’s going to be really, really funny and kind of the whole engine of the new movie. So it's exciting."

"The script is really fun," De Niro said. "I'm looking forward to it."

"I fell in love with that script,...

Robert De Niro Teases 'Meet the Parents 4', Says the Script Is "Really Good"
Image
Robert De Niro, the Hollywood icon and star of classic films like The Godfather Part II and Taxi Driver, has recently addressed his reprisal as Jack Byrnes in the upcoming sequel to the classic 2000s comedy, Meet the Parents. During a recent screening of the original to celebrate its 25th anniversary, De Niro teased the revival of the Focker franchise, noting that the film is coming along nicely and that he's "looking forward to it."

Per Deadline, De Niro joined director Jay Roach and co-stars Teri Polo and Ben Stiller for the 25th anniversary screening of Meet the Parents. After the screening, they participated in a Q&a session where they offered details about the sequel, which recently added Wicked star Ariana Grande to its cast in an undisclosed role. When asked about the upcoming movie, De Niro, much like his retired CIA agent character, remained coy, and simply said...

Robert De Niro at an event for A Single Man (2009)
Robert De Niro is fockin’ ready for Meet the Parents 4
Robert De Niro at an event for A Single Man (2009)
Maybe you can’t milk Robert De Niro, but you can absolutely milk a franchise. That’s pretty much what happened with 2000’s Meet the Parents, which, with its $161 million domestic haul, was one of the year’s biggest movies. Not surprisingly, it birthed a sequel a few years later, and then for some reason a third in 2010. Fifteen years might seem like an odd time to bring the Fockers back, but with nostalgia for the era raging, it actually makes sense. And if star Robert De Niro is to be believed, the script is one that will have audiences lining the fock up.

Meet the Parents was given a 25th anniversary screening at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, where De Niro joined director Jay Roach and co-star Ben Stiller for a packed Q&a. It was here that De Niro assured attendees that the script for the fourth...

Ben Stiller Wishes Fans Wouldn't Yell This Character’s Name at Him in Public
Image
25 years ago, Ben Stiller appeared alongside Robert De Niro as two of the stars of the original Meet the Parents movie. Ahead of a fourth installment of the franchise, the two reunited to reflect on the film in a new interview at Manhattan's Tribeca Performing Arts Center for this year's Tribeca Festival.

Per Variety, the film was screened before Stiller and De Niro participated in a Q&a session with attendees. Stiller said at the event that it was "so much fun to hear laughter in a theater with comedy that's 25 years old," adding that the film "still works." While he appreciates that fans continue to enjoy the movie, however, Stiller also admitted that he's never thrilled when people in public refer to him by his character's name — particularly, his last name.

“When someone yells ‘Focker!’ on the street, it doesn’t necessarily feel respectful,” Stiller said.

Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller Reunite for ‘Meet the Parents’ 25th Anniversary, Tease Fourth Film With Ariana Grande: ‘The Script Is Really Good’
Image
It’s a Focker-Byrnes reunion!

Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Teri Polo and director Jay Roach gathered for the 25th anniversary of “Meet the Parents,” a comedy of errors about male nurse Greg Focker (Stiller) who endures a lot of painfully awkward hijinx while visiting his girlfriend’s parents for the first time. De Niro plays Polo’s character’s father Greg Byrnes, a cat-loving retired CIA agent who rules with a well meaning (maybe?) but iron fist. They reunited at Manhattan’s Tribeca Performing Arts Center as part of this year’s Tribeca Festival, which was co-founded by De Niro and Jane Rosenthal in 2002.

“It’s so much fun to hear laughter in a theater with comedy that’s 25 years old,” Stiller said during the Q&a after the screening. “It still works.”

Though a quarter century has passed since “Meet the Parents,” Stiller finds that audiences continue to associate him with Greg Focker.

Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Jay Roach Tease New ‘Meet The Parents’ As Original Has Audience In Stitches At 25th Anniversary – Tribeca Festival
Image
Jay Roach and the Meet The Parents gang promised a topping great screenplay for the next edition, the franchise’s 4th, which recently set Ariana Grande along with original cast and announced John Hamburg is directing.

“The script is really good,” said De Niro after a screening of the 2020 hit where he famously flexed his comedy cops as Jack Byrnes, human lie detector and CIA dad hazing his daughter’s fiancé – played by Teri Polo and Ben Stiller. “I’m looking forward to it,” he said.

The audience is too, repeatedly cracking up during a 25th anniversary screening and reunion Q&a at the Tribeca Festival Saturday.

Asked to spill a little about the upcoming film, Stiller mused, “I don’t know. I don’t know what we can say. We can I probably tell you the whole plot?” He didn’t.

Jason Momoa, Andy Samberg to Star in Action Comedy at Netflix
Image
Some things just make sense together: peanut butter and jelly, cheese and crackers, Jason Momoa and Andy Samberg. That last one is, of course, a new addition to the snack cabinet, as the actors have recently sold their two-hander action comedy film to Netflix. In what was a reportedly "highly competitive" situation, the A Minecraft Movie and Brooklyn Nine-Nine stars are slated to star in an as-yet-untitled film, bringing together two very different, but complementary, flavors of comedic timing.

In a report exclusively reported by Deadline, we were only given a scant few details about a film that already feels rife with potential given the players involved. Though there is no director attached, the film will be written by Saturday Night Live alums Rob Klein and John Solomon. Between the two of them, Klein and Solomon have been nominated 19 times for Emmy Awards. What we do know is that the...

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group President Nathan Kahane Departing Studio By End Of Year — The Dish
Image
Exclusive: Deal points still are being worked out, but Lionsgate Motion Picture Group President Nathan Kahane is expected to leave his post by end of the year when his contract expires, transitioning to a producing deal with the studio, sources familiar with the situation tell Deadline.

Reps for Lionsgate declined to comment. Sources said that when the transition has been completed, Erin Westerman is expected to take over all studio production under studio chair Adam Fogelson, moving up from her post as President of Motion Picture Production.

While sources say Kahane would be focused on producing going forward, rumblings began last week about him potentially landing at another company. One of those rumored potential spots was The Initial Group, which is a Tpg-backed global entertainment company, but sources on both sides have said there is no deal for Kahane to join the group and producing is still his focus for the future.

In an interview with Variety, Rosenthal shared that there had always been talks about doing another Meet the Parents ever since the release of the third installment, 2010's Little Fockers. While she didn't divulge much about the sequel's story, she did note an interesting parallel between the new movie and the original classic from 2000.
