Here’s something for Hallmark fans to cluck about: the channel has set the return date for The Chicken Sisters.

The series about a restaurant rivalry is set to return at 8 p.m. Et Aug. 10 to the channel. It will stream the next day on Hallmark+. The adaptation of Kj Dell’Antonia’s novel of the same name stars Schuyler Fisk (Amanda), Genevieve Angelson (Mae), Lea Thompson (Nancy) and Wendie Malick (Gus). The tome was a selection in Reese Witherspoon’s book club.

Production on the second season began in April in Vancouver. David James Elliott (Jag) has joined the series in a recurring role. He plays someone who shows up to town from Gus’ past.

Hallmark+’s The Chicken Sisters follows two warring mom and pop friend chicken restaurants: Mimi’s and Frannie’s. The feud between the restaurants arose long ago when the founders of each had a falling out.

In present-day fictional Merinac, modeled after the setting of Kj Dell’Anotnia’s book of the same name, complications have further arisen between the two single women who continue to run the restaurants, passed down to them from their ancestors. A reality food network-like show comes to town to capture the dueling dynasties, and secrets are unearthed as tensions arise.

Kj Dell’Antonia’s best-selling book The Chicken Sisters, which was a Reese Witherspoon Book Club pick in December 2020, has become an eight-part series that premiered with the launch of Hallmark’s streamer Hallmark+.

Annie Mebane serves as executive producer on the series, which is set in Kansas just like in Dell’Antonia’s novel. Generous with y’alls and Southern hospitality, the show fits in perfectly to Hallmark’s slate.
