"Arrested Development" is a cult classic TV sitcom for many reasons. Before it was shockingly revived by Netflix, the series was unceremoniously axed by Fox despite consistent critical acclaim -- leading to what was once one of the greatest series finales ever broadcast. It had a unique sense of humor as well, bucking usual sitcom conventions in favor of multi-episode gags and hidden puns that are near impossible to catch on the first watch. But perhaps most of all, it made a defiant mark because of its cast, including both its main ensemble and its parade of hilarious guest stars.
A great "Arrested Development" guest could make an episode an instant classic. Thus, we've wrangled the 15 best "Arrested Development" guest stars and ranked them based on how much comedy they add relative to their limited screen time. The Accountant 2 Worldwide Box Office: Trails Behind The Og Film(Photo Credit – Instagram)
The Accountant 2 starring Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal has been subdued at the box office by Sinners and Thunderbolts*. It is still trailing behind its predecessor, The Accountant, by a considerable margin. The movie is not really trending owing to the biggies and PG-rated movies. For the unversed, the Og movie was released in 2016 and was directed by Gavin O’Connor. Arrested Development, with its enviable 8.6 rating on IMDb, became one of the most talked-about TV shows of the last two decades, which went on to inspire multiple single-camera comedy series. While its last season might have aired more than six years ago in 2019, the show’s relatability and timelessness still remain unmatched!
Thus, with President Donald Trump back in the White House following a sweeping victory at the 2024 election, the fifth season of Arrested Development feels closer to home. From 2003 to 2019, although episodically, Mitchell Hurwitz’s show managed to capture the imagination of a section of the American audience who remained glued to the screens for its hilarious yet pointed commentary on America’s social, political, and economic climate.
The show, which initially premiered on Fox in 2003, was cancelled after three years in 2006. After a few years, Arrested Development was revived by Netflix as the streaming giant brought its fourth season.

Ben Affleck‘s Christian Wolff from The Accountant is one of the most unusual action heroes to emerge over the last decade or so. Now, let’s face it – when people think of accountants, they don’t think of action heroes. Indeed, that’s one of the trademarks of the series, with Affleck’s unassuming-looking Wolff deliberately made up to look non-threatening or nerdy, only for him to possess skills that make him an unstoppable badass when push comes to shove. But, not only is he “nerdy”, but he’s also autistic. Unlike most films that would be about this condition, it’s not presented as a handicap, but rather an essential part of who he is, both good and bad, making the film a refreshing change of pace from other movies about the condition. With The Accountant 2 now in theatres, we thought now would be the perfect time to examine why,...

Tangled is one of the most popular and beloved recent Disney movies. Which naturally led to a need for a live-action version.
Disney is known for its beloved animated Disney Princesses, which include both classic characters like Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Belle, and Ariel, but also newcomers like Merida, Tiana, Moana, Raya, and Rapunzel. The latter got her own movie with the beloved 2010 animation Tangled. Disney was already working on developing a live-action version, but, per The Hollywood Reporter, the plans for the live-action Tangled are now paused amid its Snow White headaches.
There were conversations about the adaptation, but Disney confirmed the Tangled live-action remake in December 2024. Michael Gracey, who helmed critically acclaimed productions like The Greatest Showman and the Robbie Williams biopic Better Man, was in talks to direct. Jennifer Kayton Robinson, who helms the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel, wrote the draft for the script.

The Russo Brothers are now synonymous with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where they helmed several successful films, including 2019's Avengers: Endgame, and the upcoming two superhero team-up films. However, the duo started their career directing several sitcoms, including Arrested Development and Community.
In a new feature interview with The Hollywood Reporter to promote their upcoming Netflix film, The Electric State, the duo also looked back at the beginning of their careers. While they now make millions helming superhero movies, their start in the industry wasn't as easy. Their first project was an FX pilot called Lucky, which aired for one season and led to them working on Arrested Development. Jason Bateman, who played Michael Bluth on the hilarious show, recently said he was at an award show when Damon pitched himself to appear in a film version. The twist? Jason Bateman remembers the “Arrested Development” film that almost came to be. Bateman said during a recent appearance on the “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast, which you can see in the below video, that Matt Damon was interested in the project at one point. The only downside? Now, nobody “gives a shit” about bringing the film to the screen.
“Arrested Development” series ran from 2003 to 2006 on Fox and was later revived by Netflix for two additional seasons between 2013 and 2019. In the series, Bateman played Michael Bluth, who is tasked with running his eccentric family’s real estate empire after his father (Jeffrey Tambor) is arrested. Michael Cera played Bateman’s onscreen son, with Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett, and Tony Hale as his siblings. Late actress Jessica Walter iconically played the boozy family matriarch Lucille. Star gazing is unavoidable whenever watching Tales from the Crypt. In this beloved anthology series, you typically find actors who were in the early days of their career, but there were also occasions where even more established celebs were dying to work with the Cryptkeeper. One notable instance of the latter was in Season Two’s opener “Dead Right” — this macabre delivery of just deserts featured Demi Moore after she starred in Ghost, the top-grossing film of 1990, and it was shortly before she would go on to become the highest-paid actress of the decade.
Unlike other actors who sought out their spots in Tales from the Crypt, Moore was directly asked to star in an episode. “We were looking for the perfect person, and it occurred to us that the role [of Cathy Marno] was tailor-made for Demi Moore,” recalled Crypt producer William Teitler. And as luck would have it, Moore was a friend of co-producer Joel Silver.

Primarily consisting of younger actors, the series was set at a "fat camp" for children. Stiller starred in dual roles, playing Tony Perksi Jr., a fitness entrepreneur who takes over the camp whilst the kids work to overthrow him; Stiller also plays the character's father. Looking back at the movie upon reaching its 30th anniversary, Stiller shared a message on X acknowledging that the film would be seen as much more problematic today.

Actress and rock 'n' roller Taylor Momsen made her screen debut at the age of three, appearing in a 1997 Shake 'n Bake commercial. In the ad, she noted that Shake 'n Bake dinners were an excellent sign of her mother's love, and she demonstrated the product with aplomb. It's Shake 'n Bake, and she helped. Momsen was also, at the time, working as a child model, something she recalls hating. In a 2011 interview with Bethesda, Momsen said that she recalls being busy a lot as a toddler and that she wasn't given a lot of time to spend with friends. Her whole life, she said, she was in and out of school.
That same year, while she was still in preschool, Momsen started appearing on a few TV shows, notably the 1997 "The Cosby Show" spinoff "Cosby," and in a 1998 episode of "Early Edition." Momsen's first feature film was director David Worth...

The acclaimed sitcom "Modern Family" was an enormous hit with audiences and influential on contemporary American television. Running for 11 seasons from 2009 to 2020, the ABC comedy took the mockumentary format, popularized by sitcoms like "The Office," out of the workplace and into a domestic context. And while the conclusion of "Modern Family" left a void in network television, there are plenty of similar comedies that fans can connect with.
From other family-based network sitcoms to shows that adopt a similar mockumentary style, "Modern Family" has a growing number of like-minded counterparts. These shows offer hilarious perspectives on the ever-evolving state of the American family, reflecting the times that we live in. The types of families examined range from lower-middle-class families struggling to make ends meet to the ultra-rich who are brought down a few pegs to comical effect. Ben Affleck is set to return to the role of Christian Wolff in The Accountant 2, but while fans wait for more news on the sequel’s progress, they have been checking out the original 2016 action thriller on Max. Jim Carrey's divisive Christmas movie has become a streaming hit 24 years after its original release. The comedic actor rose to stardom during the 1990s with a series of box office hits, starting with Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber (all released in 1994), followed by Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls and Batman Forever (both in 1995). These hits made Carrey one of the highest-paid comedic actors, starting with the slightly darker comedy, The Cable Guy, in 1996 and Liar Liar in 1997.
Carrey's success as a leading comedic actor continued well into the 2000s, starting with How the Grinch Stole Christmas in 2000, which became the second highest-grossing Christmas movie of all time, and continued with Bruce Almighty, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, and Yes Man in the following years. In 2009, Carrey played multiple characters in the 3D animated adaptation of the classic Charles Dickens story, A Christmas Carol,...

Among HBO's earliest original series successes was the horror anthology series "Tales from the Crypt," which ran from 1989 to 1996. The show adapted material from '50s comic book publisher EC Comics, which included "The Vault of Horror" and, of course, "Tales from the Crypt." Each episode is hosted by the undead Kryptkeeper (John Kassir), a cackling corpse who introduces the various stories to the audience. Taking advantage of its premium cable platform, "Tales for the Crypt" was able to depict more graphic content than most horror shows at the time.
Across its seven seasons, "Tales from the Crypt" featured impressive talent, in terms of actors, directors, writers, and producers. Every episode is a self-contained story, often involving morality plays with the greedy and wicked gruesomely punished by the end. With over 90 episodes, "Tales from the Crypt" consistently put out strong horror television, with many fan-favorite episodes. Here are the best...

Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas premiered in 2000 and has since become a cult classic rewatch for the holidays. Over two decades later, actor Jim Carrey, who played the titular character, expressed his thoughts about a sequel.
Speaking to ComicBook, Carrey also revealed that he would be willing to reprise his role as the Grinch in a sequel, but he needs one major change. Carrey played the titular role in Ron Howard's 2000 film, which received a mixed reception from the critics but became a major commercial success. Glengarry Glen Ross will take over Palace Theatre this spring.
The revival of the David Mamet play, starring Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk and Bill Burr, will start previews at the theater March 10, ahead of a March 31 opening. The production is scheduled to play a strict 12-week limited run.
The play takes over the Palace Theatre after the abrupt closure of the Tammy Faye musical on Dec. 8. Tammy Faye had been the first Broadway production to play the theater after it underwent a multiyear renovation and was raised 30-feet in the air and was meant to usher in its grand reopening. The theater boasts a seating capacity of 1,306 and has typically been used for musicals, which are seen as drawing larger crowds, rather than plays.
The production will be directed by Patrick Marber, who won a 2023 Tony Award for his direction of Leopoldstadt. Odenkirk and Burr will make their Broadway debuts in the play.

While The Twilight Zone remains the most iconic anthology series of all time, the best Tales from the Crypt episodes stand up well with a very different feeling. Unlike the original anthology series, which focused on morality tales and a look at horrific stories, Tales from the Crypt told its horror tales with a wink and a grin. The main focus of the series, opened each episode by the Crypt Keeper, was to deliver horrific, demonic, and disturbing tales, but always with a look at making horror fans smile with a mix of humor and irony in each episode.
Tales from the Crypt also shares much in common with The Twilight Zone in bringing fans some familiar faces signing on for single episodes and delivering performances they never got the chance to deliver when they appeared in more mainstream movies and television shows. "Arrested Development" is one of the best TV comedies of all time. Created by Mitchell Hurwitz, it's a show filled with memorable dialogue, expertly written and delivered punchlines, and enough running gags and callbacks to make it reward multiple viewings. Most of all, the dialogue is so good it simultaneously feels improvised yet too well structured to be improvised. In fact, the original plan was for all the dialogue on "Arrest Development" to be improvised, but the scripts turned out to be too good for that.
Narrated by Ron Howard, "Arrested Development" centers on the formerly wealthy and always dysfunctional Bluth family, who made a fortune in property development. The show follows what happens when they lose everything and their eldest son Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman) tries to keep the family together after their patriarch goes to prison.

Return to Oz was a wild mess for Disney, but not the last time they’d use the Oz property!
Given what a disaster the production of Return to Oz was and how it ended up being a box office flop, it’s no shock that Disney was very wary of ever using the property again. Despite still owning the rights, Disney didn’t focus on Oz at all, even as other studios had various projects, from Syfy’s modernized fantasy Tin Man to NBC trying to make it a dark fantasy epic with Emerald City to Wicked becoming a smash Broadway hit.
As it happened, Oz would collide with another Disney property in a rather unique way, although not the success hoped for.

L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" stands as one of the most adapted novels ever published. As early as 1908 — practically the dawn of cinema — "Oz" was being translated to the screen, and the titular character of the Wizard of Oz has appeared in each of those adaptations. As such, the Wizard is a character who's been interpreted in a variety of ways, given that he's been portrayed by actors ranging from Richard Pryor, Jeffrey Tambor, Christopher Lloyd, Vincent D'Onofrio, and James Franco. When it comes to the portrayal of the Wizard in the new film version of "Wicked," two actors in particular leap to mind: Frank Morgan, who played the Wizard in 1939's "The Wizard of Oz," and Joel Grey, who played him in the original stage production of "Wicked."

Here’s why Scarlett Johannson refused to play a Trans character (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Scarlett Johansson pulled the plug on her Rub & Tug role faster than we could say “bad casting call.” She was all set to play Dante “Tex” Gill—a 1970s transgender crime boss—until the internet blew up over it. The issue? The Avengers star isn’t trans, and the LGBTQ+ community wasn’t having it. Cue the backlash.
At first, Scarlett went into full defense mode, pointing fingers at other actors who played trans characters. “Criticism can be directed to Jeffrey Tambor, Jared Leto, and Felicity Huffman’s reps,” she quipped. Not the best move. Trans advocates like Jamie Clayton and Transparent star Trace Lysette weren’t thrilled. Lysette tweeted, “I wouldn’t be as upset if I was getting in the same rooms as Jennifer Lawrence and Scarlett for cis roles, but we know that’s not the case.

Let’s face it, no family is dysfunctional quite like the Bluths. The cult classic sitcom, Arrested Development, first aired in 2003 and redefined the chaotic comedy with its mix of zany characters and absurdly tangled storyline. From a banana stand with “always money in it” to endless chicken dances, the show has given us unforgettable moments and a memorable cast that felt more like a bizarrely entertaining extended family than fictional characters.
Leading the madness was Jason Bateman as Michael Bluth, the so-called “responsible” one trying to hold his trainwreck of a family together. Then there’s Will Arnett as Gob, the magician with an ego bigger than his tricks, and Portia de Rossi as Lindsay, the ultra-glamorous activist with questionable motives.

Bradley Cooper is a multi-time Oscar nominee with a deep history in the film industry. After kicking off his career with an episode of Sex and the City in 1999, the early days of Cooper's career consisted mainly of comedies. This trend began for the actor in 2001 when he acted in the star-studded Wet Hot American Summer. From there, the then-rising star would go on to make several other movies in the same genre, including Wedding Crashers, The Rocker, and more.
It was not until the 2010s that Cooper's career really shifted more heavily into drama. In 2013, Cooper was nominated for his first Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role in the Jennifer Lawrence-co-starring film Silver Linings Playbook. He would continue on a hot streak in dramas from that point, being nominated for Oscars in both subsequent years. Now, he is a multi-hyphenate talent known for acting, producing,...

Todd Phillips made his directing and writing debut on a feature film with Road Trip back in 2000, for which he also has an acting credit. From there, the director has gone on to create some of the best comedies that have stuck around since their initial release. His usual genre took a slight turn with War Dogs, although the film is still laced with humor.
However, Phillips really showed the extension of his abilities with the thriller film Joker in 2019, which he also wrote and directed. The recent release of Joker: Folie Deux is Phillips' latest work, once again taking on the reimagining of the classic Batman villain. With plenty of other movies for fans of his to explore, the following list lays out some of Phillips' best work.
