Younger brother of John Belushi.

One of his lifelong passions is playing his harmonica, a love he first developed after hearing British blues musician John Mayall, a leading proponent of the instrument. Jim carries his harmonica with him all the time.

His father, Adam Belushi, was an Albanian who left his native village, Qytezë, in 1934 at the age of fifteen. His mother, Agnes (Samaras), was born in the U.S., to Albanian parents.

Early in his career he was offered a role on a proposed TV sitcom adaptation of Colegio de animales (1978). Wanting to keep his career separate from his famous older brother John Belushi (who co-starred in the movie), Belushi declined.

Was originally set to co-star in Blues Brothers 2000 (El ritmo continúa) (1998), but couldn't due to scheduling conflicts.

Occasionally performs concerts with the Sacred Hearts Blues Band.

Favorite films include Un jardinero con suerte (1979), Casino (1995), El padrino (1972), etc.

Son, with Sandra Davenport, Robert Belushi (b. 1981).

Has a son, Jared Belushi, with wife Jennifer Sloan (born February 8, 2002).

Opened a pot farm in Southern Oregon Banana Belt called Belushi's Farm.

Has a daughter, Jamison Belushi (aka "Jamison Bess Belushi"), with wife Jennifer Sloan (born July 28, 1999).

Childhood celebrity crush was Elizabeth Montgomery of Hechizada (1964) TV series fame.

Member of the jury at the Venice Film Festival in 1991.

He was nominated for a 1979 Joseph Jefferson Award for Actor in a Principal Role in a Play for "Sexual Perversity in Chicago" at the Apollo Theatre Center in Chicago, Illinois.
