- In his autobiographical 'Les Mots' (1963), Jean-Paul Sartre singled out his childhood love of Zevaco's swashbuckling stories in the newspaper as the first Republican 'cape and sword' historical adventures, as the ordinary man was able to bring down royalty or church figures when justified.
