'X-Men 97' Star Eyes Animated Spin-Off Movie As the Film Picks Up Steam [Exclusive]
Image
Not long after X-Men ‘97’s Alison Sealy-Smith expressed interest in doing an animated X-Men movie, one of her beloved co-stars has joined her in her desires. One of the original X-Men: The Animated Series stars to return and reprise her role in the 2024 continuation was Lenore Zann, who voices Rogue in the show. Zann’s voice performance as Rogue was hailed by fans and critics alike for its powerful emotion and delightful charm.

Collider’s Maggie Lovitt recently moderated a panel for Zann at FanX's Tampa Bay Comic Convention, and after briefly dishing on what she’d like to see from whoever takes over the mantle of Rogue in live-action, Zann joined Sealy-Smith, who plays Storm in X-Men ‘97, in showing interest in doing an animated X-Men movie:

“Oh, an X-Men animated feature film would be fantastic. I think people would love that.”

Zann also reminisced on when she...

’X-Men ‘97’ Star Has Advice for Her Live-Action Counterpart in the McU's Upcoming X-Men Movie [Exclusive]
Image
Lenore Zann, the voice of Rogue in X-Men: The Animated Series andX-Men ‘97, has finally explained her issue with Fox’s live-action portrayal of the character. She even has some crucial advice for whoever next takes over the mantle of Rogue in the MCU’s looming live-action X-Men movie, which will be directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*). Anna Paquin previously played the character in live-action, first debuting in the X-Men movies of the early 2000s.

Collider’s Maggie Lovitt recently moderated a panel at FanX's Tampa Bay Comic Convention for Zann, and a fan in attendance asked if she had any direction to give Rogue’s next live-action actor. She didn’t hesitate to suggest, “Watch X-Men: The Animated Series, then X-Men '97. That would be my number one thing to say.” She then went into detail about her gripes with how Fox handled Rogue in the Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart-led X-Men movies,...

Kevin Feige Says MCU X-Men Movie Will Be a 'Youth-Focused Reboot'
Image
The kids will probably be alright in Marvel's future X-Men adaptation.

Per The Playlist, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige offered a brief tease of what director Jake Schreier's upcoming take on Mutantkind will look like when its new X-Men team members are introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "Jake’s going to make a youth-focused reboot, he revealed, adding, "That may be reflected in mutant castings, and it'll definitely be felt in the tone and perspective of the film."

While it remains to be seen which X-Men characters will be selected for the MCU, Schreier -- who previously helmed Marvel's critically, albeit not commercially successful film Thunderbolts* -- discussed what he most looks forward to exploring in the X-Men's neverending battles against supervillains and human prejudice. To Schreier, "The core idea of what 'X-Men' is involves complexity. It's an incredible opportunity with super interesting characters and [much] internal conflict.

One 'X-Men '97' Star Reveals Big Dreams Beyond Seasons 2 and 3 [Exclusive]
Image
X-Men ‘97 lit the world on fire last year on its way to becoming the highest-rated Marvel project ever, despite not taking place in the MCU. The show earned a nearly flawless 99% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and even a strong 91% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter. One aspect of the hit series that earned widespread acclaim was its voice cast, some of whom, like Lenore Zann and Cal Dodd, returned to continue their roles from X-Men: The Animated Series, with others like Holly Chou coming on as newcomers.

Another returning star for X-Men ‘97 that blew fans away once again was Alison Sealy-Smith, who voices Storm. Collider’s Maggie Lovitt recently moderated a panel for Sealy-Smith at FanX in Atlanta, and while the X-Men actor didn’t seem too keen to put her hat into the ring to play Storm in live-action, she did confirm she’d like to work on a “full-length,...

Marvel's next MCU saga might not be the one we hoped for after all
Image
What do we want in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? We want mutants, and more importantly, the X-Men! When are we getting it?! No one knows.

We’ve seen clues of mutants' inevitable to the MCU arrival in the Multiverse Saga through titles such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, The Marvels, Ms. Marvel, and more. However, other than the past actors from 20th Century Fox X-Men franchise appearing in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, there hasn’t been confirmation of when we’ll see Marvel’s Mightiest Mutants taking center stage. Sadly, this won’t be an article that gives hope for an upcoming mutant-led project.

Although Marvel Studios Preisdent Kevin Feige previously revealed that the "Mutants Era" would be the next chapter of the MCU that doesn't necessarily mean that it will be titled "The Mutants Saga". And now, a new report has cast doubt on just...

X-Men '97 Star Gives Production Update On Season 3 Ahead Of Season 2's Release
Image
X-Men '97, the well-received revival of X-Men: The Animated Series, rewarded fans with both the strongest writing that Marvel's mutants have received on television in years, as well as the return of many classic voice actors. One such actress is Lenore Zann, who voiced Rogue in the original series. Zann recently discussed the series' upcoming second and third seasons, providing much-anticipated updates.

Speaking with Collider, Zahn revealed that the cast has "finished recording Season 2, and that will be coming out in 2026." Continuing, she also added: "I'm about to start to go into the studio next week to start on season three, so I've got lots to look forward to."

X-Men '97 Season 3 Gets an Exciting Update Ahead of Season 2
Image
Rogue voice actor Lenore Zann touched upon X-Men '97 Season 3. This comes after X-Men '97 got a disappointing Season 2 update.

Zann brought this subject up during an Indiana Comic Convention panel (via Collider), avouching, "I'm about to start to go into the studio next week to start on season three, so I've got lots to look forward to." Putting the spotlight on X-Men '97 itself, ex-showrunner Beau DeMayo delved into how it continues X-Men: The Animated Series' story in 2024, asserting at the time that every design choice was a clue to the storylines the production team was doing and that nothing arbitrary. "[The other reason was to] throw the X-Men back to a time where they're thinking about: What part of this do I want to keep?" he continued. "Was it truly simpler back then, or were we just more naive?"

Besides these bit of news, production head and director Jake Castorena hinted at more Marvel cameos in upcoming episodes,...

Although X-Men ‘97 is now proceeding under the supervision of showrunner Matthew Chauncy, Season 2 isn’t undergoing a major overhaul. X-Men '97 Gets Disappointing Season 2 Update
Image
X-Men ‘97 was one of last year’s breakout hits, tapping into the nostalgia of the original series, while also modernizing it and adapting it with great success. Unfortunately, it has disappointingly been announced that fans still have a while to wait before Season 2 gets here.

Per ComicBook.com, Marvel’s head animation honcho, Brad Winderbaum, has confirmed that the acclaimed series won’t be returning for its sophomore season until 2026. "Season 2 of X-Men ’97 is going to be in ’26. We’re working on it now. It’s exciting," explained Winderbaum, who is the Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation at Marvel. The news comes as a tremendous disappointment to fans, as it means they will have to wait nearly two full years for the resolution to Season 1’s cliffhangers.

X-men '97: Marvel's Brad Winderbaum Confirms That Season 2 Won't Arrive Until 2026
Image
Late last year, a rumor did the rounds that the highly-anticipated second season of X-Men '97 wouldn't premiere until 2026, and the lengthy wait has now been confirmed by Marvel's Brad Winderbaum.

"Season 2 of X-Men ‘97 is going to be in ‘26. We're working on it now," Winderbaum tells Collider. "It's exciting. That world of the ‘90s is just… Honestly, I can't believe they let me make it. I grew up at Marvel, as you know, clocked a lot of time here, and I feel like I used a lot of currency to revive this thing that I loved watching after school. So, the fact that we get to play in that universe with those actors is honestly why I went into this business in the first place."

When asked if we could expect more animated shows - and possibly a feature - to be announced soon, Winderbaum played it a little closer to the vest.

Channing Tatum’s Gambit Movie Was Supposed To Be a ‘Screwball Romantic Comedy’

Channing Tatum’s long-planned Gambit movie was set to be a unique take on the Marvel character, but it never saw the light of day. Lizzy Caplan, who was set to star alongside Tatum, recently opened up about the project and shared new details on what could have been.

Caplan described Gambit as a “really cool idea” that was surprisingly scrapped. “It’s kind of odd that it got scrapped. Those movies don’t seem to ever get scrapped, but it did,” she said. She recalled that production had gotten far along, with a planned start date and several meetings with Tatum and the film’s producers. “They wanted to do, like, a ’30s kind of screwball romantic comedy set in that world, which would have been really fun.”

Tatum had been pushing to make Gambit happen for years, but the film was ultimately shut down when Disney acquired Fox...

He's bold, wise, and a leader of humanity. These are the stunning members of the Marvel Comics Universe who we have been privileged to watch every month, including Black History Month in February. It could be because they were billed as miniseries, meaning that they were designed to conclude after only one season, which wrapped up this year. Another reason for them not returning could be that they won't be finished with the filmmaking process in time to make a 2025 release. There are also some Disney+ shows that won't be back next year because they ended or were canceled this year. Whatever the reason for them not returning, we're definitely going to miss them!

Below, we shared a list of...

X-Men ’97 was a huge success for Marvel despite all the issues with the project and the alterations it made to the series’ canon. There are many reasons for this, but we won’t list them all here. The animated series’ superb plot and animation technique, which were almost exact reproductions of the original series, brought back pleasant memories for all viewers of the original series.

Marvel confirms hit show won't be coming back for season 2 in 2025
Image
After a relatively conservative round of announcements at San Diego Comic-Con, D23, and New York Comic Con regarding upcoming Marvel Studios releases, no one anticipated that the biggest wave of announcements would come in the form of a Disney+ promo dropped just before midnight on the streaming platform.

In the 60-second spot, Marvel confirmed the release dates and windows for over half a dozen live-action and animated Marvel Studios titles set to come within the final two months of 2024 and across 2025.

The list for 2025 included highly anticipated live-action shows such as Daredevil: Born Again, Ironheart, and Wonder Man, as well as a handful of animated originals that have been long in the works.

There were a lot of amazing shows confirmed to be coming to Disney+ in 2025, but there was one notable hit series missing from the promo — an omission that seems to hint that the show won’t be...

Bam Smack Pow comic book tournament: Strength and power!
Image
We're onto the next phase of the Bam Smack Pow comic book tournament. The most recent battle was all about people with “phenomenal” power. It looked at the characters whose abilities are too strong to be in other fights, but maybe not strong enough to be with either the heroes or villains bracket. Some of the results were shocking.

Let's take a look at them:

John Constantine over Johnny Storm (79% to 21%)Charles Xavier over Shazam (82% to 18%)Iceman over Hyperion (73% to 27%)Reverse Flash over Emma Frost (64% to 36%)Kang The Conqueror over the Invisible Woman (58% to 42%)Starfire over Vision (65% to 44%)Doctor Fate over Spawn (62% to 38%)Martian Manhunter over Atom Eve (61% to 39%)

We’ve seen round 1 of the superheroes, supervillains, superhero and supervillain fighters, and geniuses. This bracket is full of people whose abilities are powerful, but they’re so random that it was difficult to find where to put them.

The X-Men's Civil War for Charles Xavier's dream
Image
For the mutants in the Marvel Universe, the “X” once represented hope and unity. Two lines, crossing together. Inspired by the dream of Charles Xavier of mutantkind and mankind coexisting, the X-Men reinforced this, incorporating the letter into their name as if to say “We will protect the futures of man and mutant alike, no compromise.”

It was a hopeful dream, born of good and evil ideas that represented parallels to our world, such as the fight for civil rights. This was no more apparent than how Xavier and rival Magneto compared to real-life civil rights leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr and Malcolm X.

But this is a different time. This is a different era.

A divided future for the X-Men

Following the end of the Krakoa era of X-Men comics, this "Raid on Graymalkin" storyline within the “From the Ashes” crossover splits the team based on...

Marvel's Kevin Feige Had Two Conditions To Greenlight X-Men '97
Image
There was so much to love about the '90s "X-Men" animated series that creating a revival show in 2024 seemed like a risky maneuver. But Disney's legacy sequel series, "X-Men '97," debuted to great reviews, providing '90s kids everywhere with a straight shot of animated nostalgia. Of course, the 2024 version of the show was a lot cleaner than the Og series, which originally ran from 1992 to 1997 on Fox Kids. "X-Men" debuted during a time when hand-drawn animation done under a tight budget and often shipped overseas for coloring gave all our favorite cartoons a charmingly janky aesthetic. That same feel was missing from the revival show, but that was really the only thing that felt different.

To make sure this particular nostalgia-fest hit properly, Disney and Marvel ensured they did everything they could to make "X-Men '97" feel as close to the original series as possible. The show was...

X-Men '97 Creator Addresses Black Panther Controversy Despite NDA Claim - "Humanity Before Continuity"
Image
4 months after confirming an NDA prevented him speaking up, X-Men '97 creator Beau De Mayo has finally addressed why the critically acclaimed Marvel show used King T'Chaka instead of T'Challa. The decision was met with confusion and some criticism from Marvel fans who believed Chadwick Boseman's legacy should have been honored more directly.

De Mayo has now taken to X.com to defend the decision to use T'Chaka rather than his son, after an X-Men '97 fan asked him for the thinking behind it: he responded "I don't know why Marvel had certain directors trying to spin and lie about this but we produced X-Men 97 Season 1 in early 2021. The loss of Boseman weighed heavily on the studio, as well as on me as a black man. Felt too soon to do T'Challa. Put humanity before continuity."

The McU's stunning X-Men line-up "revealed"; fans divided
Image
The Mutants are coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That's right, the X-Men's arrivals are on the horizon, as the Marvel Studios franchise has been slowly laying the groundwork for their entrance into the film series throughout the Multiverse Saga, with nods and references to iconic X-Men characters, themes, and storylines along the way.

But the next phase in that plan to introduce the characters will come in the form of a movie. Yes, Marvel Studios is indeed developing an X-Men movie, with a writer already attached to the project. And with Kevin Feige already confirming that the Mutants Era is here, it's only a matter of time until we meet Marvel's Mightiest Mutants in the form of Charles Xavier's team of superheroes.

Naturally, fans are wondering which of the classic X-Men heroes will be involved in the project. We've seen two live-action iterations of the team thus far,...

X-Men '97 Rumor Shoots Down Hopes for Non-Gambit Returns

A new rumor for X-Men '97 shoots down hopes for any non-Gambit returns. Before this, Rogue actor Lenore Zann praised X-Men '97 for its Primetime Emmy Award Nomination.

Per The Cosmic Circus, insider Alex Perez shared this claim when asked if fans could "expect any of the mutants that died at Genosha other than Gambit to return," like perhaps Madelyne Pryor, in a Discord Q&a session, professing, "Probably not." Circling back to Zann, Zann teased Rogue's Season 2 storyline, avowing that there are Easter eggs in there for "fans to follow up."

One X-Men '97 Actor Just Cosplayed As Their Character – And It's Perfect
Image
A year ago, who would've thought that "X-Men '97" would make it all the way to the Emmys? The show overcame a premise that screamed cheap nostalgia (and behind-the-scenes problems) to become a critical darling. "X-Men '97" ultimately came up short for Outstanding Animated Program to "Blue Eye Samurai," but it remains easily one of Marvel Studios' best recent achievements.

Many of the show's cast and crew attended the ceremony, but if there was an award for Best Dressed, it had to go to Lenore Zann, the voice of Rogue. Rather than typical formalwear, Zann chose to cosplay her character. (Take a look at the outfit on Zann's Instagram.)

Beau DeMayo Will Reveal The "Whole Truth" Of His X-men '97 Firing... If You Subscribe To His OnlyFans Page
Image
Back in March, the surprising news broke that Marvel Studios/Disney had fired X-Men '97 showrunner Beau DeMayo shortly before the animated revival show's world premiere.

Since then, the internet has been rife with rumors and speculation about what might have led to DeMayo's dismissal, and last month, Marvel finally released a statement on the matter.

"Mr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation. Given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately and he has no further affiliation with Marvel."

Though no specific details were revealed, we have since heard that DeMayo was terminated for sending lewd photos to members of his staff, and there have been further reports of him being physically and sexually inappropriate with several of his colleagues.

DeMayo has denied this, suggesting that his firing was simply due to homophobia, and claiming that he was stripped of his X-Men '97...

X-Men '97 Actor Hints at Exciting Season 2
Image
Although it's only been a few months since X-Men '97 Season 1 ended, fans have been eager to learn about the upcoming second season. Jennifer Hale, who voices Jean Grey in the animated series, recently hinted at what viewers can expect from Season2.

"All I will say is buckle up," Hale told ComicBook when asked about the highly anticipated second X-Men '97 outing. "I can tease nothing... nothing. I'm making [it] a practice not to say a word about anything. I don't even mention I'm in something until I see the producers and the creators say something online. I just don't do it. I don't risk it. I don't want to be the one who screws the thing up," the actor said, explaining the reason for her extremely vague answer.
