While bartending, thanked as John "The Devil" Vogel in T.L. Lankford books for over-pouring his gin and tonics.

The character of Eddie Vogel, in The Lincoln Lawyer was named after John while he was making Blue Neon Night with Michael Connelly. Michael was writing the book at the time.

John's first lead role in a play in Los Angeles was titled, "A Little Bit of Sin will Keep You Honest", directed by Sung Kang.
