One of Sylvester Stallone’s most underrated action flicks of the 1980s has to be Cobra, directed by George P. Cosmatos. Coming off the massive success of Rambo: First Blood Part II, Cobra was a solid box office hit in its own right, earning $48 million domestically (in 1986 dollars) and around $112 million overseas. Still, compared to the previous year’s Rambo sequel, it was seen as a disappointment. In fact, when I attended a Stallone masterclass at TIFF a few years ago, Sly himself expressed regret over how the film turned out, saying:
“Cobra, to me, was half-baked. I could have done better, but I wasn’t concentrating enough. I felt like that’s something I should have directed, and I didn’t—and I regret that. That’s one thing about making movies—aside from watching your hairline recede—you go, ‘God, why didn’t I try harder?’”
Despite Stallone’s misgivings,...

Sylvester Stallone burst onto the Hollywood scene with his title role of Rocky Balboa in 1976’s Rocky. After that film, he starred in so many action films including First Blood and its “Rambo” sequels, more Rocky films, Over the Top, Demolition Man, Cliffhanger, Tango and Cash and a guilty pleasure film for me, Judge Dredd.
However, in 1985, Sylvester Stallone and director George P. Cosmatos brought the world the exciting sequel to First Blood with Rambo: First Blood Part II. Then, a year late,r the duo teamed up again for the iconic 80s action-thriller Cobra. This cult classic is coming up on its 40th anniversary, so for that epic event, Arrow Video has decided to restore and release this action film on 4K!

According to a since-deleted video posted on X, when Daddea arrived at the prison almost two weeks ago, a guard told him he would be housed in the same unit as Mangione.
“I’m like, ‘Yeah, he’s being a wise ass’… I look out the cell, Luigi is standing there, and he’s like, ‘Hey, how’s it going?’ Like, super nice,” Daddea recounted in the video. “[He] Introduced himself to me first thing. I’ve literally – I’ve been in the unit for 10 minutes.”

Kicking off with the wave of ‘No Kings’ protests last weekend, Luigi the Musical premiered on June 13 at the Taylor Street Theatre in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood.
The play was announced in April, and the 49-seat theater sold out its initial run instantly. With a story in The New York Post and a mention on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, among other national headlines, the musical received a level of publicity few plays can nab, and shortly before the show began, it was announced that an additional date in July had been added.

He allegedly said the healthcare and insurance industry “extracts human life force for money.”
“So say you want to rebel against the deadly, greed fueled health insurance cartel. Do you bomb the HQ? No. Bombs=terrorism,” he apparently wrote (via the New York Post).
He then allegedly detailed plans to “wack [sic] the CEO at the annual parasitic bean-counter convention. It’s targeted and precise and doesn’t risk innocents.”

Following Season 8's emotional ending, 911 showrunner Tim Minear shared the challenges behind finding the next captain of Firehouse 118 ahead of Season 9. The death of Captain Robert "Bobby" Nash (Peter Krause) in 911 sent shockwaves to the rest of the 118, his wife Athena (Angela Bassett), and fans of the series. Bobby's departure left a significant hole in the lives of the show's core characters, with them trying hard to navigate their new normal.
Minear previously explained why Bobby Nash had to leave 911, pointing out that it was a "creative decision" on his part while saying, "If the stakes are never real... the show could die." The character's death also meant that Firehouse 118 has yet to name a permanent captain. Still, 911 revealed Bobby's temporary replacement for a few episodes: Captain Vincent Gerrard (Brian Thompson).

Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, is requesting the dismissal of state murder charges in New York, arguing that they constitute double jeopardy. Mangione’s legal team contends that the state charges, including first-degree murder as an act of terrorism, are duplicative of the federal charges he faces, which include murder through the use of a firearm in furtherance of terrorism.
Last month, the Trump Administration said it would seek the death penalty in Mangione’s case.
The defense argues that prosecuting Mangione in state and federal courts for the same act violates the constitutional protection against double jeopardy, which prohibits an individual from being tried twice for the same offense. They claim that the charges overlap and there is potential for multiple punishments for the same crime, which would be unconstitutional.
Mangione has raised millions from supporters who sympathize with him for his legal defense.

The Tony Award nominations are out, but that isn’t the week’s most exciting theater headline. The big news: The entire run of Luigi: The Musical, a new comedy about Luigi Magione that’s premiering next month in San Francisco, is completely sold out, according to People.
Here’s the official synopsis from the production’s website: “Luigi: the Musical is a comedy that imagines the surreal scenario of Luigi Mangione, the man accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, sharing a prison with real-life inmates Sam Bankman-Fried and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.”

Luigi Mangione’s legal team filed a motion to dismiss the New York state murder charges against him in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, arguing that the cases against the suspect — Mangione also faces the death penalty in a federal case — amount to double jeopardy.
Mangione, who last week pleaded not guilty in the federal murder case, is also facing charges in Pennsylvania — where he was arrested in December 2024, five days after Thompson’s shooting death — for gun possession.

9-1-1 enters its second stage now that Bobby (Peter Krause) has been buried. His death was a major event that separated everything into before and after, and in the all-new episode airing on Thursday, May 8, the after begins. Meanwhile, the job calls as emergencies continue demanding the station's attention. ABC released a sneak peek of the episode, previewing what will come as the season gears up for the final stretch.

Note: This story contains spoilers from “9-1-1” Season 8, Episode 16.
“9-1-1” mourned the loss of Peter Krause’s Bobby Nash with a funeral and an old case with a tragic resolution.
Episode 16, titled “The Last Alarm,” followed as the firefighters of the 118 and their loved ones grieved losing their beloved captain. Bobby appeared in the heartbreaking hour through flashbacks and visions to his wife Athena (Angela Bassett), cementing the death of a character fans hoped would miraculously be revealed as a fake out in this week’s installment.
The somber tone did not slow down the case work, as Athena was recruited to solve a mystery surrounding one of Bobby’s past rescues. She juggled that with her own grief and finding the right resting place for her husband. Meanwhile, the other “9-1-1” characters struggled through their own grief, including Eddie (Ryan Guzman), who returned from El Paso for the funeral.

One of the more controversial moments of the final day (April 13th) of the Coachella festival’s first weekend came during a set by L.A. punk legends Circle Jerks.
Following a rendition of the rebellious political song “Coup d’état,” frontman Keith Morris made a point to clarify some of the song’s lyrics — namely the last line, “kill all” — in the context of the modern day.
Addressing the crowd, Morris said [as transcribed by Sf Gate]: “That song, that last line, ends with ‘kill all.’ That’s a pretty fucking ugly statement. In ugly times. Do not think that we encourage that.”
However, he added, “What we do encourage — what would be totally fucking happening — would be an army of Luigis,” referring to Luigi Mangione, who faces federal and New York state charges for the alleged murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in late 2023.

Charlie Brooker can’t help but go there. The Black Mirror creator is wrapping up a story about testing the reflexes of self-driving taxis by stepping in front of one — “Disappointingly, it didn’t try to kill me” — when I bring up a more recent rideshare innovation. Protector, a car service with armed guards for executives and others rattled by the December shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, had launched in Los Angeles that week. “Jesus, Ok, that’s dystopian,” he says. “But surely it’s a perfect service for anyone who, you know, wants to assassinate somebody? Just sign up to work as the guard and then you’re in a car with a gun and somebody important.”
Brooker knows dystopia. For seven seasons, the latest dropping April 10 on Netflix, Black Mirror has reflected some of the darkest places technology could take humanity. But the writer behind almost every...

On Tuesday, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that the Department of Justice will seek the death penalty for Luigi Mangione.
Mangione made headlines in December when he allegedly murdered UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in midtown New York. Since his arrest – five days following the fatal shooting – Mangione has become a hotly debated figure across the country, with many people viewing him as an outspoken vigilante exposing the healthcare crisis in America.
Bondi declared that she was directing prosecutors toward the federal death penalty as part of “President Trump’s agenda to stop violent crime and Make America Safe Again.”
An Ivy League grad, Mangione, 26, faces state and federal charges, all of which he has pleaded not guilty.
Mangione’s lawyer, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, shared that she discussed the decision with the department and called Bondi’s directive “barbaric” and “political.” A spokesperson for the US attorney’s office declined to comment.

If convicted, Luigi Mangione is now facing the death penalty.
Late last year, following a somewhat clownish manhunt, authorities arrested Mangione.
Many see him as an innocent man, possibly the victim of framing. Many see him as a nascent folk hero.
However, the Trump administration is accusing him of being a “cold-blooded assassin.” And Trump’s Attorney General is seeking to execute Mangione.

Days after reports emerged about terminal problems with Saw XI, the horror sequel has been pulled from its September release slot.
Last week saw reports that horror sequel Saw XI was in trouble due to behind-the-scenes disagreements. Those stories now appear to have been borne out, to a degree, by the news that Lionsgate has removed the horror sequel from its release calendar.
Saw XI was originally scheduled to appear in US cinemas on the 26th September; that slot has now been filled by a different kind of scare-fest: The Strangers – Chapter 2, according to Variety.
The box office success of Saw X in 2023 seemed to have put the long-running splatter franchise back on track, and Lionsgate wasted little time in announcing a sequel. That follow-up was originally scheduled for 2024, echoing the annual turnaround the Saw movies often stuck to when their popularity was at its height in the 2000s.

Saw XI has been officially cut from Lionsgate’s release calendar — but that doesn’t mean the franchise is dead yet.
The Hollywood Reporter can exclusively report that the planned sequel in the horror franchise, which had been slated to hit theaters on Sept. 26, has been removed from that date. This follows Patrick Melton, a writer on the movie, telling THR in a story published last week that there has been “inter-squabbling” between producers and Lionsgate.
On Monday, Lionsgate shared a cheeky statement from Billy the Puppet, the ventriloquist dummy used in the films by the character John Kramer, aka Jigsaw: “I’ve seen the rumors. They say it’s Game Over. You all should know me better than that. The game is never over.”

South Korean TV series "Squid Game" has become a smash hit. The game itself may be fictional, but "Squid Game" speaks to a true story: people driven to the edge by poverty and debt. True not only in hyper-capitalist South Korea but in countries around the world, so it's no surprise that "Squad Game" is an international hit. David Fincher has an American "Squid Game" remake in the works, but that feels redundant given how universal the original feels.
What about a story that flips the premise, though? What if it were the people who made this unbalanced world that had to pay for it? Horror filmmaker turned comic artist Patrick Horvath has the answer with his new comic one-shot, "Free For All," that promises "a brutal new vision of capitalism by combat."

Top legal and true crime network Law&Crime announces the first installment of its podcast slate for 2025, Luigi, available exclusively on Wondery+ and produced in collaboration with Wheelhouse’s Twist Media. From the producer and writer of the smash-hit The Rise & Fall of Ruby Franke and Karen, and hosted by Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber, Luigi is more than a true crime podcast - it’s an exploration of a uniquely American moment that has further expanded the cultural divide, marked by the unprecedented public response to the cold-blooded killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on the streets of New York City.
All episodes of Luigi will be available exclusively on Wondery+ starting on March 24th.
In a case that has captured headlines since December of last year, authorities claim 26-year-old Luigi Mangione took an Ivy League education and significant planning to make a fatal statement about the rising cost...

The future of Saw XI remains uncertain as the next installment in the long-running horror franchise has been stalled due to managerial disputes between Lionsgate and the film’s producers. Initially slated for a September 2024 release, the film’s delay has left fans speculating about its fate, with no clear resolution in sight.
Patrick Melton, one of the screenwriters for Saw XI, revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the film has made “zero progress” since he and writing partner Marcus Dunstan submitted a draft in the spring of 2024. “We haven’t heard anything since May,” Melton stated. “It’s stalled at a managerial level. It has nothing to do with the creative or anything else. There are higher-level things at play.”
While creative disputes have been a common obstacle in Hollywood productions, the delay of Saw XI appears to stem from internal conflicts between the franchise’s producers and Lionsgate executives.

Saw XI appears to be struggling to survive.
The Hollywood Reporter has learned “zero progress” has been made on the next installment since writing partners Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan turned in a draft back in spring of 2024.
“We haven’t heard anything since May,” says Saw XI screenwriter Melton, who has been involved with the franchise since 2007’s Saw IV. “It’s stalled at a managerial level. It has nothing to do with the creative or anything else. There’s higher-level things at play.”
In late December 2023, Lionsgate announced that franchise mainstay Kevin Greutert was attached to direct Saw XI for a September 2024 release, but the studio ultimately delayed it by a year to Sept. 26, 2025. Greutert helmed Saw X, which revitalized the franchise when it hit theaters in September 2023 and collected $112 million at the global box office. It is unclear if he is still involved in Saw XI, and...

It looks like P Diddy has more than his upcoming trial to worry about. Currently detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, a prison known for its heinous conditions, Diddy might be in danger of becoming the inmates’ next target. Well, at least that’s what the experts believe. Not only Diddy, but Luigi Mangione, who is awaiting trial for the murder of UnitedHealthcare chief executive Brian Thompson, may be on the radar as well.

After Mdc saw inmate-on-inmate violence and a brutal gang stabbing, expert Justin Paperny believes that the two high-profile prisoners may need to face more lockdowns and be kept away from the general population in fear that someone might “make an example of them.“

In the past week, vigilante heartthrob Luigi Mangione was gifted the biggest donation yet to his defense fund. Mangione’s defense fund, intended to cover his legal bills, has received thousands of small donations from people looking to iterate their support. Though most donations are only a few dollars, earlier this week an anonymous donor splurged, dropping $36,500 in the defense fund.
