Yes, The Grover Dill Actor Really Tried To Buy The A Christmas Story House — Where Yano Anaya Is Now
Image
Fans of A Christmas Story will remember the snot-nosed bully Grover Dill, and the actor who plays him, Yano Anaya, must have had a great time on set, considering how he wanted to purchase the original A Christmas Story house. A Christmas Story is a classic of the Christmas movie canon and as much a part of the holidays as Home Alone, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Miracle on 34th Street. It's synonymous with the season and a heartwarming and hilarious tale about a young boy and his family's misadventures during Christmastime in the 1940s.

The third installment in the Parker family saga, which includes the first film in the series, The Phantom of the Open Hearth from 1976, and the latest film, A Christmas Story Christmas, which arrived in 2022. A Christmas Story is by far the most memorable movie in the holiday franchise, with incredible quotes, hilarious scenes, and lovable characters.

Scott L. Schwartz Dead at 65; Ocean's 11 Star George Clooney Pays Tribute
Image
It was recently announced that Scott L. Schwartz, the professional wrestling star known for his role as "Bruiser" in the Ocean's Eleven film series, passed away on November 26, 2024, at the age of 65. Following reports that the star had died peacefully at his home in Covington, Louisiana, tributes paid to him, including his former Ocean’s Eleven costar George Clooney.

Clooney shared his personal thoughts on social media, saying in a statement:

“I’m sorry to hear that Scott is gone. We did three films together and I’ve never been so gently punched. He was a gentle soul and he will be dearly missed.”

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Schwartz began his career in professional wrestling, but like several other showmen of the ring, his imposing size made him just as good a fit for some tough roles in Hollywood as his career in the world of wrestling as "Giant David" and "The Israeli Commando Joshua Ben-Gurion.

‘Space Sharks’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Eric Roberts, Carl Crew, Scott Schwartz, Allie Perez, Brinke Stevens, Mel Novak | Written and Directed by Dustin Ferguson

One of the stranger subgenres of horror films to emerge recently is that involving sharks from outer space. Space Sharks is the latest addition, following Iron Sky and its sequel, Sky Sharks and Shark Side of the Moon, among others. Of none of them are nearly as good as the original The Outer Limits episode The Invisible Enemy, but that’s a whole different bucket of chum.

What concerns us now is the commercial spacecraft, The Clairvoyant, returning to Earth with a cargo of alien sea creatures and plant life. That includes what looks like a couple of small sharks with legs and feet. They have visions of generous research grants dancing in the heads of their scientific team. That consists of Dr. Johnson, Dr. Thompson and Dr. Hansen played by...

'Oh, Fudge!' A Christmas Story Cast Reunited for 40th Anniversary Event
Image
The Gcfc organized a reunion event to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the classic holiday film A Christmas Story, with original cast members Peter Billingsley and others in attendance. The event attracted over 2,000 fans from 30 states and Canada who participated in various activities and had the opportunity to meet the iconic cast. The film commission expressed gratitude for the support and highlighted the economic impact of the film industry in Northeast Ohio.

Fans of A Christmas Story received their own real-life version of Ralphie’s Red Ryder Bb gun: the perfect gift. That Bb gun was by far the best X-mas present Ralph Parker (Peter Billingsley) ever received. And over the weekend of November 10 through 12, 2023, the Greater Cleveland Film Commission (Gcfc) presented their own special gift to enthusiasts of the classic movie: A Christmas Story cast reunited to celebrate the holiday film’s 40th anniversary. Zack Ward aka Scut Farkus commemorates A Christmas Story’s 40th anniversary
Image
From yellow-eyed bully to blue-clad police officer, Scut Farkus made one miraculous turnaround since we were first introduced to him in 1983’s A Christmas Story. Now, the actor who portrayed him, Zack Ward, is spreading Christmas (Story) cheer by commemorating the film’s 40th anniversary.

Taking to X over the weekend, Zack Ward noted the special anniversary and how wild the size of the legacy the movie developed over the years is. “40 years ago today “A Christmas Story” was released and honestly, nobody cared. Now, it is in the Library Of Congress as one of the top 100 most Important films of American Cinematic History from the 20th Century and in the Smithsonian as a national treasure. Wow.” Don’t forget the annual 24-hour marathons, either, Farkus!

Image
One of the stars of A Christmas Story is reflecting on the legacy of the iconic holiday film in honor of its 40th anniversary.

Directed by Bob Clark, A Christmas Story was first released in theaters on Nov. 18, 1983. It was not an immediate box office success, but through home video and airings on television, it has since become one of cinema history's most popular Christmas movies. Taking to X on the film's 40th anniversary, actor Zack Ward, who played the bully character Scut Farkus, noted how the movie has grown to be highly revered despite having an initial release that was underwhelming.

‘A Christmas Story’ Separated Child Actors During Filming to Create Tension
Image
Holiday favorite “A Christmas Story” is the tale of a typical boy Ralphie Parker (Peter Billingsley) as he deals with the typical struggles kids face during the Christmas season. One of the many thorns in his side during the film is his issues with bullies Scut and Grover Dill, played by Zack Ward and Yano Anaya, who harass him throughout the movie. In order to create real tension between the two and the other child actors, they were kept separate from the rest of the cast, as Ward revealed in a recent interview with Insider.

“Most of the time Yano and I were not hanging out with the other kids. They had different shooting schedules than we did,” Ward said. “[Director Bob Clark] told our parents, ‘I just want Yano and Zack to hang out and be friends, and if possible, without being rude to the other kids, don’t really...

Why A Christmas Story's Flagpole Scene Needed To Be Reshot
Image
A Christmas Story star, R.D. Robb, recently explained why the movie's iconic flagpole scene needed to be reshot. Set in the 1940s, the film centers on the Parker family told through vignettes as remembered by Ralphie Parker (Peter Billingsley). One such critical moment occurred in the local school's yard during recess when his friend Schwartz (Robb) triple dog dares Flick (Scott Schwartz) to lick the school's metal flagpole. Not backing down, Flick obliges and gets his tongue stuck to the structure.

On the first episode of Peter Billingsley and Vince Vaughn's new podcast, A Cinematic Christmas Journey (via SlashFilm), Robb detailed why the flagpole scene needed to be reshot in A Christmas Story. The actors explained that the effect was completed by Scott sticking his tongue to a hole in the hollow pole connected to a vacuum device to create suction. However, the scene had to be completely redone...

Michael Jordan Loved A Christmas Story So Much, He Kept A VHS Copy In His Locker
Image
If you are one of the people who watch "A Christmas Story" yearly as a holiday ritual, you are in good company — really good company.

Peter Billingsley, who starred as Ralphie Parker in the 1983 film, and his Wild West Picture Show Productions partner Vince Vaughn have started a new video podcast called "A Cinematic Christmas Journey." They're tackling films like "Home Alone," "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation," "Four Christmases," "It's a Wonderful Life," and "The Grinch." Of course, they're also breaking down "A Christmas Story."

Joining this episode are Ian Petrella, who played Randy, Scott Schwartz, who played Flick, and R.D. Robb, who played Schwartz, with Billingsley as co-host, along with Nick Schenk, who wrote the script for the new sequel "A Christmas Story Christmas."

The guys begin by talking about how the film did at the box office, and despite good reviews, it wasn't expected to do well, it seems.

A Technical Error Forced A Christmas Story's Famous Flagpole Tongue Scene To Be Reshot
Image
If you grew up anywhere around cold weather and snow, you might already know this, but if you're new to icy conditions, here is a public service announcement: Do not touch your tongue to a flagpole when it drops below freezing. Even if someone triple-dog dares you. Of course, if you've seen the 1983 film "A Christmas Story," you probably already know this. You likely have, as TNT and TBS do a marathon of the film every holiday.

This was one of those moments that fills me with remembered dread, as I almost attempted this before I saw "A Christmas Story" for the first time. I wondered how they did this and if poor Scott Schwartz, who played the unfortunate Flick, was okay.

Wild West Picture Show Productions partners Peter Billingsley (who starred as Ralphie in the film) and Vince Vaughn, have started a new podcast called "A Cinematic Christmas Journey,...

For this episode, Schenk and Billingsley welcome Ian Petrella, who played Ralphie's little brother Randy, R.D. Robb, who played Schwartz, and Scott Schwartz, who played Flick. A Christmas Story Christmas Cast & Character Guide
Image
Peter Billingsley returns to lead the A Christmas Story Christmas cast, which is filled with returning characters and new faces. The original A Christmas Story was released in 1983 and followed Ralphie Parker as he attempted to get a Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range Model air rifle from Santa. The film quickly became an iconic Christmas movie, but Warner Bros. found a way to return to the characters decades later with A Christmas Story Christmas. The sequel provides a glimpse at Ralph's life as an adult as he learns about the difficulties that can come with trying to pull off the perfect Christmas.

The A Christmas Story sequel cast unsurprisingly features a mixture of actors that audiences know from the original movie and several new additions. Since it has been nearly 40 years since the original movie, not every person could return. The passing of Darren McGavin, who played Ralphie's Old Man,...

‘A Christmas Story Christmas’ Review: Ralphie Returns in a Forgettable but Sweet Sequel
Image
Click here to read the full article.

It’s hard to imagine now, but A Christmas Story wasn’t exactly a hit when it opened in theaters in 1983. It’s mainly due to the film’s constant rotation on cable television during the holiday season that it achieved its current status as a beloved Yuletide classic. So it makes perfect sense in the current streaming era that its long-belated, awkwardly titled sequel A Christmas Story Christmas should make its debut on HBO Max. (Yes, there was 1994’s My Summer Story and 2012’s direct-to-video sequel A Christmas Story 2. But this film ignores them, and so should you.)

Taking place in 1973, more than thirty years after the original, the film once again stars the now middle-aged Peter Billingsley as Ralphie Parker, who’s all grown up and lives in Chicago with his wife Sandy (Erinn Hayes) and young kids Mark (River Drosche...

A Christmas Story Christmas Review
Image
Plot: Follows the now-adult Ralphie as he returns to the house on Cleveland Street to give his kids a magical Christmas like the one he had as a child, reconnecting with childhood friends and reconciling the passing of his Old Man.

Review: Bob Clark’s A Christmas Story has gone from an obscure 1980s cult classic to a stalwart of cable marathons and quotable moments in the thirty-nine years since it premiered. Despite two feature film sequels, a half dozen made-for-television movies featuring the Parker family, and much despised live broadcast musical special, nothing has lived up to the nostalgia and wholesomeness of the original. With HBO Max serving as the perfect platform for such a sequel, Ralphie Parker is back for the first direct sequel to the 1983 original. A Christmas Story Christmas, featuring the return of Peter Billingsley as Ralphie and many of the first movie’s cast, is...

Movie Review: A Christmas Story Christmas
Image
You could be forgiven for thinking A Christmas Story Christmas is nothing more than a streaming service’s attempt to trade on nostalgia and pad out its offerings. Even its lazy title suggests that it exists solely so HBO Max can give viewers an easy piece of content to click over to after watching Bob Clark’s 1983 original A Christmas Story.

But in a minor Christmas miracle, Clay Kaytis’ sequel is a little more than a quick, cheap cash-in. While it’s not going to take its predecessor’s place on the holiday movie throne anytime soon, A Christmas Story Christmas has its own charms and a sweet spirit that makes it a welcome return to Cleveland Street.

Peter Billingsley returns as Ralphie Parker, now a 40-something adult living in Chicago with his wife, Sandy (Erinn Hayes), and their two kids. No longer a bright-eyed young kid dreaming of a Red Ryder Bb gun,...

Peter Billingsley, the blond moppet from “A Christmas Story,” was 11 years old when he starred in that 1983 holiday-sleeper-that-became-a-classic (though it depends who you ask — I’ve always been something of a Scrooge about it). The image of Billingsley from “A Christmas Story” — goggle-ish glasses, beaming gopher grin — became, in its way, as iconic a movie signifier of raucous kiddie-culture spirits as Macaulay Culkin’s cheeky gaze of frozen horror in “Home Alone.” But that was 40 years ago. Billingsley is now 51, and he’s the dad in “A Christmas Story Christmas,” a latter-day sequel to the movie that a lot of people (maybe too many) think of as their all-time favorite Yuletide TV bliss-out.

In “A Christmas Story Christmas,” Billingsley, as the grown-up version of Ralphie Parker, is still a likable actor, but he’s lost any trace of that rascally Bb-gun exuberance. He now resembles the former NBC News anchor...

‘A Christmas Story Christmas’ Review: Another Forgettable Entry in the Holiday Sequel Annals
Image
When Bob Clark’s “A Christmas Story” hit theaters the week before Thanksgiving 1983, no one could have foreseen the cultural impact the family comedy would have on the holiday film canon. A modest box office showing (it took in 2 million its first week and failed to crack 20 million during its full run), mixed reviews, and some awards attention from Canada’s Genie Awards added up to a hazy picture of a film that was good enough but hardly a game-changer. Later, of course, came the television airings, landing the film in near-constant rotation during the holiday season and turning it into an unexpected holiday favorite. Familiarity, it seems, didn’t breed contempt when it came to this TNT and TBS staple; it only inspired outright adoration.

Nearly 40 years after the film’s initial release — and just in time to capitalize on those same TV showings that will carry it through...

Peter Billingsley, Melinda Dillon, Jeff Gillen, and Darren McGavin in Una historia de Navidad (1983)
‘A Christmas Story Christmas’ Review: Ralphie’s Return Mixes New Holiday Gags With Labored Fan Service
Peter Billingsley, Melinda Dillon, Jeff Gillen, and Darren McGavin in Una historia de Navidad (1983)
Because 1983’s “A Christmas Story” has achieved iconic status among holiday movies and has become a nostalgic cornerstone to millions of fans who revisit it every December, it’s easy to forget that the film’s initial success came from its skewering of nostalgia itself.

The original tagline ironically called the film “A Tribute to the Original, Traditional, One-Hundred-Percent, Red-Blooded, Two-Fisted, All-American Christmas,” and director Bob Clark’s adaptation of Jean Shepherd’s comic reminiscences struck a chord precisely because it revealed the greed, venality, occasional cruelty, and recognizably human behavior that lurked beneath the Norman Rockwell façade of hazy Yuletide memories.

After several unsuccessful attempts to craft a sequel to Clark’s film, we finally get “A Christmas Story Christmas,” which brings back several of the original movie’s cast members. While it spends perhaps too much of its running time either recreating or directly quoting moments from its 1983 predecessor,...

Christmas Story 2 Video Shows Sequel's New Triple Dog Dare Scene
Image
The first clip from HBO Max's upcoming A Christmas Story sequel shows the first look at its triple dog dare scene. Titled A Christmas Story Christmas, the sequel will see Peter Billingsley reprise his role as Ralphie Parker, who returns to his childhood home with his wife (Erinn Hayes) and two children (River Drosche and Julianna Layne). The film is also planned to be a legacy sequel to the original A Christmas Story, which will re-tread many sequences that made the first film so special and reunite the original cast with some newer additions.

Now, HBO Max has released the sequel's first exclusive clip, in which Flick (Scott Schwartz) triple dog dares Schwartz (R.D. Robb) into sliding down on an icy, and closed-down waterslide. ‘A Christmas Story Christmas’: Peter Billingsley Previews Ralphie’s Next Chapter
Peter Billingsley, Melinda Dillon, Jeff Gillen, and Darren McGavin in Una historia de Navidad (1983)
Sad tidings begin A Christmas Story Christmas, a follow-up film to the 1983 holiday classic. Ralphie Parker, now grown and an aspiring novelist, gets a dreaded phone call from his loving mother (Julie Hagerty) during Christmas 1973. Peter Billingsley in 1983’s A Christmas Story (Credit: Everett Colleciton) “It’s the passing of Ralphie’s father [Darren McGavin, who died in 2006] that calls him home,” says Billingsley, now 51. To honor his old man, Ralphie brings his own wife (Erinn Hayes) and their two kids to Hohman, Indiana, to have a magical holiday just like the ones he recalls. Look for more familiar faces from the 1940-set original, like tongue-stuck-to-flagpole Flick (Scott Schwartz) and bully Scut Farkus (Zack Ward). And not much has changed for Ralphie himself, reports Billingsley: “He’s an eternal dreamer. He’s always fantasizing things.” A Christmas Story Christmas, Movie Premiere, Thursday, November 17, HBO Max...

Peter Billingsley Returns as Ralphie in First Teaser for ‘A Christmas Story Christmas’
Image
One of the most famous Christmas films of all time is getting a sequel. HBO Max released the first teaser for “A Christmas Story Christmas,” set to release on the streamer November 17.

The repetitively titled film is a sequel to 1983’s “A Christmas Story,” directed by Bob Clark and based on Jean Shepard’s 1966 novel “In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash.” Set in the ’40s, the original film starred Peter Billingsley as Ralphie Parker, an ordinary 9-year-old boy engaging in various hijinks around Christmastime while desperately yearning to get a Bb gun for the big holiday. Shepard narrated the film as an adult Ralphie reminiscing about his childhood. The film was a moderate success during its original theatrical run, grossing about 69 million against a 3 million budget, but became a seasonal classic thanks to repeated television airings, and receives annual 24-hour marathons on cable channels such as TNT and TBS.
