In 1986, Saper composed music for the TV drama "Sumanovic - komedija umetnika", in which he also played a character called Rastko Petrovic.

The debut studio album of the VIS Idoli was released under the simple title "VIS Idoli". The second album, "Odbrana i poslednji dani" (The defense and the last days). Music critics voted it the best album of 1982 and, what is more, the best Yugoslav rock album of the 20th century. Later on, in 1998, the album was voted as greatest Yugoslav POP album in the book "YU 100: Najbolji albumi jugoslovenske rok i pop muzike" (YU 100: The best albums of Yugoslav pop and rock music).Their third album, "Cokolada" (Chocolate), released in 1983. The last music recordings by the "VIS Idoli" were featured in the album "Sest dana juna" (Six days in June) in 1985, where Srdjan composed soundtrack for the film of the same name.

In the 1980s, as a member of "VIS Idoli" band, he played himself in TV movies "Decko koji obecava" (The Promising Boy) and "Rock and Revolution".

Srdjan Saper enrolled in the University of Belgrade's Faculty of Medicine. However, despite a successful start, he abandoned his medical studies to enroll in the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, graduating in film and television direction.

He wrote the song "Beogradski davitelj" (Bejbi Bejbi), and performed it with the "VIS Simboli" band.
