WWE sacrificed 28 wrestlers and backstage talent on Wednesday all in the name of WWE’s stock.

That sounds crude, but it’s true.

WWE announced today that 28 individuals were fired. More full-time employees would be furloughed or laid off and construction on the company’s new headquarters has halted as well. The savings for WWE is about $4 million per month, they bragged in a press release.

That $4 million per month sounds like a lot … until you realize WWE has $90 million in cash on hand and has upwards of $500 million available if they maximized everything and extended all of their credit lines.

The cuts were, of course, blamed on coronavirus.

But make no mistake about it, these cuts were made for one reason and one reason only … to protect WWE’s stock price. The moves were made to protect profit margin. It affected a lot of lower-card talents, some of whom...

WWE Superstar Bray Wyatt was injured in a car accident on Friday, when he “sustained multiple injuries,” according to WWE. Wyatt, who is one-half of the “Monday Night Raw” Tag Team Champions, will miss tonight’s TV show.

Wyatt was en route to the airport for this past weekend’s “Raw” WWE Live Events when he was in a head-on automobile collision that left his car totaled, the professional wrestling company wrote on its website. He was treated at Tampa General Hospital and has since been released.

No further details are currently available on the extent of Wyatt’s injuries.

In 1991, Madison Square Garden hosted a PPV that ended up being the triumphant last hurrah for the colorful Hulk Hogan era of WWF.

Through different factors, WWE works its way into being segmented by eras. Usually it’s defined by direction and the talent promoted at the top. As it is right now, we’re in the midst of an era shift. John Cena spent years as the focal point of the company with Randy Orton and, for a time, Batista at his side. These days, Cena and Orton are winding down and Batista is long gone.

Instead, we're now in something resembling the Roman Reigns Era? Will WWE finally give up on him and try something else? Will it be an era defined by smaller guys with fantastic ringwork? It’s still hard to say.

Bray Wyatt missed WWE Raw this week due to the ill health of his grandfather. He had been scheduled to be a big part of Raw, perhaps in a segment with Brock Lesnar, and his early departure resulted in the show being changed somewhat.

His grandfather is Bob “Blackjack Mulligan” Windham and he has been in rough shape for quite a while. The 73 year old was hospitalised last June, and the sudden departure of Wyatt suggests he’s taken a turn for the worst. Bray’s brother, Bo Dallas and their father Mike Rotunda, who works for WWE in a producer role also flew back from Birmingham to Tampa.

Lesnar did mention Wyatt in his opening promo, though, and that’s the clear direction for WrestleMania. If he had been there, it is reasonable to guess that they may have had an interaction or brawl this week. Instead,...

Is Sister Abigail finally set to show her face in WWE?

According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there’s been more talk within WWE lately of introducing the mysterious character (so far only known by name from Bray Wyatt’s promos) into the Wyatt Family’s storylines.

Last September, PWInsider reported that Mika Rotunda had received a try out with the view to introducing her as the latest Wyatt. She is the real-life sister of both Bray Wyatt and Bo Dallas, as well as the daughter of WWE veteran Mike Rotunda. As yet, nothing has come of it.

Two current WWE superstars met Sting way back in 2000 at a WCW show. Those two boys were none other than a ten year old Bo Dallas and thirteen year old Bray Wyatt.

The photo of the pair meeting their wrestling idol has surfaced on social media, showing just how cross generational WWE has become. On a Raw after-show just a few months ago, Sting decked Dallas with the Scorpion Death Drop.

As per announcement on this past Friday’s edition of WWE Smackdown, “bo-lievers” everywhere can rejoice that third-generation superstar and longest-reigning Nxt champion Bo Dallas is set to debut on next week’s edition of the stalwart Friday night WWE program. Bo’s gimmick evolution may be more intriguing than his debut, though. As a traditional white-meat babyface, Dallas was foisted upon fans at Nxt as their top “good guy” performer, but his saccharine routine wore thin. A heel turn saw Dallas become a daft and unaware heel champion, the kind of guy who would tell his fans to “don’t stop Bo-lieving” and oftentimes comically mistook boos for chants of “Boooo.”

The wrestling business can often times be a place where families come together to watch their favorite performers with their loved ones. It’s also a place where families of wrestlers have been able to perform for generations of fans.

There are a number of current and former wrestlers that have wrestling in their bloodline. They have parents and grandparents that have a history in the wrestling business that goes back 50 to 60 years. It makes a lot of sense that these young men and women would grow up wanting to emulate their family members because once you get a taste of the wrestling business it may never leave you.

This is about WWE performers only with a focus on the WrestleMania era, so older second generation wrestlers like Terry Funk and Nick Bockwinkel won’t be included even though they obviously had legendary careers too.

The WWE’s success is down to way beyond the characters you see on Monday Night Raw. In a company that employs over 700 people, there’s various talent working quietly behind the scenes. It might come as quite a shock, but various people you thought no longer had involvement in WWE, are in fact under pay-roll and working behind the scenes.

The duties of these former big stars now include training the next generation, instructing the current crop of wrestlers, and ambassadorial work representing the brand. It’s a good gig if you can get it, working for WWE is always better than working against it. The wrestling industry is pretty much a monopoly for WWE, so in most cases, when you’re done as a wrestler, the money and lifestyle vanish.

I’ve heard it said that somewhere between science and superstition, there is another world. A world of darkness.

It’s a world that haunted my dreams as a child, from the first time I saw Kevin Sullivan and his Army of Darkness spreading their eerily twisted messages across the Nwa.

“Our cause is not for evil,” said Sullivan during an interview for Championship Wrestling from Florida in 1982. “Because all we’re looking for is refuge from this cold, cruel world.”

Sullivan’s dark mystique, his messianic charisma, his penchant for dark riddles — they all seem to have been resurrected in the form of Bray Wyatt.

The WWE (formerly WWF) World Heavyweight Title is without a doubt the most prestigious championship in pro wrestling history. Many great wrestlers have had the privilege of holding this belt over the years including Bob Backlund, Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Steve Austin, The Undertaker, Edge, and many more. Unfortunately there are a lot of other equally talented (and some that were actually even more talented) wresters that never got the opportunity to hoist this belt high in the air in victory during their careers for a number of reasons.

At this week’s WWE Royal Rumble fan fest in Phoenix Arizona the WWE held a tournament between stars of development show Nxt with the winner earning their right to a place in this years place in WWE and what will inevitably be a spot on the WWE’s main roster. Following the recent success of numerous stars including Damien Sandow and most notably The Shield the WWE appears to be going through a phase similar to that which they did in 2002 when a rising crop of stars arrived on our screens from Ovw including John Cena, Randy Orton, Shelton Benjamin and Dave Batista. The final of the tournament was a match between Bo Dallas and Leo Kruger with Dallas coming out the victor and earning his spot in the rumble match.

As reported a few weeks ago, Nxt has recently undergone a full overhaul and here we have its first episode review…

The cameras pan around the small gym hall, just a few hundred fans if that, occupy the hall. The previous Nxt’s yellow is still prominent throughout although there are obvious changes to its logo, stage layout and ring covers.

Jim Ross comes out and thanks the fans for attending, welcoming us all to the new beginning of Nxt. Whilst onstage he introduces the new Interim General Manager: None other than the American Dream, Dusty Rhodes.

Rhodes first port of call is to schedule the main event in which he declares that Tyson Kidd will take on the Michael Mcgullicutty. He also states that if we think the last few years of Nxt has been wild, we’ve not seen nothing yet.

Cena comes out in full "Doctor of Thuganomics" gear, complete with Cavaliers jersey. Despite the local sports team pandering and wrestling fans' love of nostalgia, Cena is met with a divisive crowd. He lays down some pretty vulgar rhymes, including wanting to give Rock a Cleveland steamer. Cleveland, uh, appreciates(?) the shout-out.
