Was raised by her mother Lynne, a teacher from Monsterrat, after her father, from Dominica, walked out on the family when Parish was 8-years-old. She did not see nor speak to her father for a further 20 years.

Gave birth to her 1st child at age 35, a daughter Kenya in September 2005.

Both she and Tameka Empson have played Leah Russell in different productions of "Beautiful Thing"; Parish in the 1994 West End production and Empson in the 1996 film version (Beautiful Thing (1996)). Parish and Empson play sisters on the soap opera Gente de barrio (1985).
