It's not uncommon for recurring characters on a popular sitcom to receive successful spin-off shows. For example, "Happy Days" spawned "Laverne & Shirley" and "Mork & Mindy," the latter of which originated from what was first thought of as a "horrible" episode script.  On the other end of the spectrum, you've got shows like "Seinfeld," which drew impressive audiences back in the day but didn't give birth to any sort of spin-off series.

However, it wasn't for a lack of trying that the "show about nothing" has nothing by way of spin-offs. George Costanza actor Jason Alexander pitched a couple of spin-off ideas, one of which would have centered on Cosmo Kramer's (Michael Richards) lawyer, Jackie Chiles (Phil Morris), who was a parody of O.J. Simpson's defense attorney Johnnie Cochran. Netflix’s animated anthology series “Love, Death + Robots” will return for a fourth volume on May 15, and the streamer has unleashed the official trailer this afternoon.

The animated, genre-bending series is created by Deadpool and Terminator: Dark Fate director Tim Miller, who executive produces alongside David Fincher.

Of particular note for the upcoming Volume 4, David Fincher returns as a director with his episode “Can’t Stop” featuring the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

“Love, Death + Robots” is coming back with 10 wacky new short films and a sprawling voice cast.

In the trailer Season 4 of the Emmy-winning program, streaming May 15 on Netflix, MrBeast leads a galactic gladiator ring with dinosaur-riding mutants and John Oliver plays an adorable robot butler.

David Fincher directs the premiere episode “Can’t Stop,” a spin on the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ 2003 performance at Slane Castle, with Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith and John Frusciante recreated as marionettes.

Plus, cat plotting world domination, Dolphin Jesus, enormous babies and Satan fill the next batch of episodes of the dystopian anthology series, presented by Tim Miller and Fincher, who executive produce alongside Jennifer Miller and Joshua Donen. What characters should have received their own Seinfeld spin-offs?

Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld had the correct answer: none. Jason Alexander, who played George Constanza for the sitcom’s entire run, had other ideas. In a 2016 appearance on the Id1ot w/Chris Hardwick podcast, as reported by SlashFilm, Alexander floated two pitches that he believed could have been the next Frasier. Both premises sound like they would have been the next Joey.

First up? “The number one that I thought, through the roof, would’ve been the four parents down at the condo in Florida. That would’ve been unbelievable,” Alexander gushed. “I don’t think (NBC) ever looked at it.”

The likely reason the network never considered the idea: All four parents were insufferable. Jerry’s dad, Morty, was such a blowhard that he got impeached as president of a condo association. His mom, Helen, is a shoplifter...

"Smallville" ran for 10 seasons, but its impact can't be measured only by how long it stayed on the air. The CW's Arrowverse doesn't exist without "Smallville." Now, "Arrow" did not share a continuity with "Smallville" and it recast its Oliver Queen. But still, even without "Arrow" being a proper "Smallville" spin-off, The CW greenlighting a Green Arrow show clearly happened because "Smallville" had introduced the character to their audience.

But there could've been a Green Arrow-led TV series much sooner, one starring Justin Hartley. During "Smallville" season 6, writer Steven DeKnight was working on a Justice League spin-off.

Beginning in season 4 of "Smallville," Clark Kent (Tom Welling) slowly begins meeting other DC superheroes. In "Run," it's Bart Allen/Impulse (Kyle Gallner). Season 5 had Arthur Curry/Aquaman (Alan Ritchson) in "Aqua" and then Victor Stone/Cyborg (Lee Thompson Young) in, well, "Cyborg." Then season 6 brought in Green Arrow (Hartley) as a recurring character.

The drama has been a ratings titan since it debuted, and has continued to electrify fans between its action and character dynamics.

The show will not be alone, though. 2025-26 will not only yield a new season of Fire Country, but an all new spinoff titled Sheriff Country. The law enforcement is set to debut the 2025-26 season, but CBS seems to like what they have seen thus far. The two shows will run concurrently on CBS, which means Country is officially a franchise.

The fictional Jerry Seinfeld has never been particularly lucky in love. Sure, he dated plenty of women throughout the show's nine seasons, but he didn't exactly have long-lasting, meaningful relationships with any of them. His closest female relationship is with his ex-girlfriend and ever-present friend Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), which is kind of refreshingly open-minded for a guy like Jerry, but that means there just weren't very many long-term girlfriend guest roles on "Seinfeld." While she's not the most memorable of Seinfeld's girlfriends because she's at least somewhat normal, Smith gives a good performance and manages to hold her own alongside some of TV's funniest comedians of the '90s.

The show has dived into Eve's backstory, revealing why she doesn't keep in touch with her family. Four of the original cast members of the ABC sitcom are returning to their roles, starring in a new commercial for WhatsApp, the chat platform owned by Meta.

The stars, Julie Bowen (Claire Dunphy), Ty Burrell (Phil Dunphy), Eric Stonestreet (Cameron Tucker), and Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Mitchell Pritchett), are reprising their roles for the spot, which pokes fun at group chats in which some members have an iPhone and a blue bubble, and others have an Android phone with a dreaded green bubble.

The platform is pitching itself as a solution to that “divide,” using the ABC sitcom as a hook.

Known for its sharp, witty humor, quotable dialogue and relatable characters, the series ran for nine seasons and was the brainchild of Larry David. Casting Jerry Seinfeld as a fictionalized version of himself, the series focuses on the comedian, his friends George and Elaine, and his neighbor, Cosmo Kramer.

Seinfeld left audiences with a variety of cultural touchstones, stemming from its recurring jokes and quotable lines, like the friends' exaggerated "hello!" greeting. The series has an impressive list of jokes that would make regular appearances and could come in the form of dialogue or even characters. While they weren't all there from the beginning, these jokes helped make the show the icon that it was and still is.

John Oliver is making good on his promise to release a complete season of Last Week Tonight each week the show is dark this season.

As of 11pm Et Sunday, the show’s complete second season is now available for free on YouTube in the U.S.

Among the season’s most memorable episodes were Oliver’s introduction of Phillip Morris mascot “Jeff the Diseased Lung”, and episode 25, about televangelists, in which Oliver hired a tax lawyer to help him create his own tax-exempt megachurch.

But Season 2’s most infamous episode is probably episode 8, “Government Surveillance,” in which Oliver traveled to Russia to interview Edward Snowden, unbeknownst to anyone—including his bosses at HBO.

Last month’s drop of Last Week Tonight’s first season marked the first time that complete episodes of the show were made available for viewing in the U.S.

Jerry Seinfeld took a shot at Friends in a new digital short promoting his new film Unfrosted, a comedy about the creation of Pop-Tarts.

Seinfeld made his directorial debut in the Netflix film about how the toaster pastries came to be. A new short ahead of the film’s release on May 3, Seinfeld visits Kellogg’s corporate offices in Michigan due to “trademark infringement.”

“You see, Mr. Seinfeld, you took something of ours, and now we’re going to take something of yours,” says the fictional President of Pop-Tarts, Kelman P. Gasworth.

Tarty, the Pop-Tarts mascot, then proceeds to unveil former Seinfeld characters trapped in a box. Making a cameo in the spot are Alexandra Wentworth’s Schmoopie, Phil Morris’s Jackie Chiles and Larry Thomas’ The Soup Nazi.

Netflix is hyping the release of its upcoming Jerry Seinfeld film with new promos. One promo sees some Seinfeld characters make an appearance, and it also comes with a joke leveled at Friends.

Known for his comedy and hit sitcom, Jerry Seinfeld dives into the origin story of Pop-Tarts in his new Netflix movie. Called Unfrosted, the film is set to arrive on Netflix on May 3. Ahead of the release, one new promo features a skit with Seinfeld meeting the fictional president of Pop-Tarts: Kelman P. Gasworth. The promo sees Seinfeld getting confronted over referencing trademarked breakfast products without permission from the company. This leads to the Pop-Tarts president getting revenge by taking some of the original characters created for Seinfeld.

Pop-Tarts is getting back at Jerry Seinfeld.

It all started when Seinfeld directed and co-wrote a movie, Unfrosted, about the origin of Pop-Tarts. He also stars in the film, which hits Netflix on May 3.

Unfrosted tells the (fictional) origin story of Pop-Tarts, which resulted in a race between breakfast rivals Kellogg’s and Post to create a pastry for the masses in 1963. While Pop-Tarts do indeed have an origin story, this is not it. (The idea had been percolating with Seinfeld for several years — he even made jokes about Pop-Tarts in his stand-up routine and once tweeted he was mulling over the idea of this film — but Pop-Tarts was not involved in the making of Unfrosted.)

“This really did happen in Battle Creek, Michigan, where Kellogg’s and Post were located, and they did compete to come up with this product,” Seinfeld has said. “But the rest of it is complete lunacy.

Phil Morris, who played the beloved Seinfeld character Jackie Chiles, tried and failed to launch a spinoff series after the show had ended. Chiles was a parody of the flamboyant lawyer Johnnie Cochrane, who had represented celebrities such as Michael Jackson, Tupac Shakur, and most notably, O.J. Simpson. In the show, Jackie Chiles was the lawyer of Cosmo Kramer (Michael Richards), and represented him in several ludicrous court cases between Seinfeld seasons 7 and 9.

Over the years, Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld have had no interest in spinoffs and Jerry recently made his thoughts clear on why a Seinfeld revival won't happen. Given the huge success of Seinfeld, it's surprising that the response to a spinoff idea was mooted, as networks are usually reluctant to give up their most popular shows. One of the most popular sitcoms on TV when Seinfeld ended in 1997 was Frasier, itself a spinoff from the hit show Cheers.

As a recent guest on the High Low With EmRata podcast, Thorne recounted instances of being sexualized as a preteen and teen, including an instance where, at age 10, she said a casting agent reported back to her mom, “she’s not moving forward because the director felt like she was flirting with him, and it made him really uncomfortable.”
