Lives with his family on an estate in Hirschfelde near Berlin, where he does organic farming.

In the early 1990s, his intelligent style of hosting shows was revolutionary on German television and earned him several awards.

In 2013 he changed his stage name to "Max Moor", explaining that he had disliked his first name Dieter from childhood on. He plans to have the name officially recognized.
