- On the set of Carry on Screaming! (1966), he complained to the producer Peter Rogers about the conditions on the set. He was not used in another Carry On film as a result for 12 years, when he returned in Emmanuelle ataca Londres (1978).
- Trained in medicine at Sheffield University. At 18 he walked from Sheffield to London to become an actor. He spent over six years in active service in the Royal Army Medical Corps in World War II including a spell attached to the Desert Rats.
