However, veering off the trajectory of the main roster characters, WWE introduced a handful of special characters to tell stories that would aid the major superstars in getting the mileage they were looking forward to. Sabrina Elba will join the cast of “Nuur.” The upcoming feature from director Lula Ali Ismaïl (“Dhalinyaro”) is being produced by Scythia Films, the banner behind the Oscar-nominated “The Apprentice.” Elba joins previously announced cast members Omar Abdi (“The Gravedigger’s Wife”) and Hamza Fouad (“Riverdale”).

The film is adapted from the novel “The Youth of God” by Hassan Ghedi Santur, who also wrote the script. In it, Nuur, the title character, is a sensitive and academically gifted 17-year-old boy growing up in Toronto’s Somali community in Dixon. Elba will portray Haawo, the resilient Somali mother to Nuur and his older brother, Ayuub. When Haawo lived in Mogadishu, Somalia, she worked as a flight attendant and was married to a successful architect. Years later, she is depressed, grappling with a failed marriage and stuck in a dead-end job at Walmart. When Nuur goes missing, she goes on a journey to bring him home.

Talking about the newly launched Displacement Film Fund at the International Film Festival Rotterdam on Saturday, Cate Blanchett teased: “It’s the beginning of something wonderful.”

He debuted at last year's Revolution pay-per-view following a match between Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson. William Regal forced those two to shake hands, eventually leading to the Blackpool Combat Club stable, which is still going strong despite the manager's departure from Aew. He also took the center stage late last year during the build to Mjf against Jon Moxley at Full Gear. Regal would turn on Moxley during that match, helping the Salt of the Earth win his first Aew World Championship.

The Gentleman Villain initially debuted for Tony Khan's wrestling promotion during the Revolution pay-per-view back in March. Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson were in a feud then, and Aew wanted to bring Regal into work alongside his two former mentees. Regal approached McMahon about the opportunity, and what the former WWE boss said was somewhat surprising.

Regal brought the group together following a match between Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson at Revolution in 2022. Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli joined, later on, rounding out the faction. The group is rarely seen on screen together these days, but they all still represent the Bcc in action with their hard-hitting in-ring style. Without Regal in place, some Aew fans may wonder what's next for the Blackpool Combat Club. Yuta recently opened up about the future of the team.

Speaking on Steve Fall's Ten Count on YouTube, Yuta said the following about how the group will move forward without Regal: "I think that there's definitely a regrouping. There's definitely got to be a rebuilding. But I think that it's time for whatever version of what the Blackpool Combat Club is gonna' be.

Several reports have indicated that William Regal is done with WWE, and one source says that the veteran regretted signing on with All Elite Wrestling almost as soon as he arrived. Regal had two televised segments following that PPV but was blindsided by The Salt Of The Earth last week on Dynamite. Following the broadcast, speculation began that William and Aew were through, which is allegedly the case.

During a recent episode of The Wrestling Outlaws on YouTube, former WWE star and Tna World Champion EC3 weighed in on Regal's time with Tony Khan's wrestling promotion. "When [Regal] went over to Aew, the word was he said, 'I immediately regret this decision.' There was very much a maturity issue with the management." EC3...

All Elite Wrestling might have finally found a way to make crowds boo Mjf, as the World Champion delivered a cheap shot to William Regal on the November 30 episode of Wednesday Night Dynamite. A week after Bryan Danielson begged Jon Moxley to spare the 54-year-old Regal from physical ramifications for interfering at Full Gear, Mjf turned around and cold-cocked William in the head. Both commentary and The American Dragon spoke about neck issues, and brain bleeds for Regal, making it a real possibility that this could be the last Aew fans see of him for quite some time. And possibly ever, given his long history with Triple H and WWE and that he was stretchered out of the ring.

In Aew, however, this could set up a monstrous feud between Danielson and Mjf. It'd be a big deal for multiple reasons. Tony Khan wouldn't be getting The Salt of the...

In the lead-up to Full Gear, it seemed like Aew had turned Mjf face. He had been getting massive pops since returning at All Out, which could have led to Tony Khan making him the top good guy in the company. The Salt Of The Earth would have never been a happy-to-be-here face, but All Elite Wrestling could have banked on a Stone Cold Steve Austin-type anti-authority figure working with modern wrestling audiences. Time and time again, Mjf tried to push the boundaries of the TV-14 rating to get booed. And repeatedly, fans rebuked his efforts and cheered for him anyway. That's part of what made William Regal's double cross of Jon Moxley so sweet. Friedman has been telling audiences all along that he can't be trusted. It's a valuable lesson for Aew fans: Don't get in their way when a wrestler is telling you who they are.

The American Film Institute (AFI) Board of Trustees will bestow his 49th AFI Life Achievement Award on Oscar winner Nicole Kidman at their June 10, 2023 ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Kidman is the first Australian actor to receive this honor.

Nicole Kidman, a queen of the big and small screen and the unofficial spokesperson of AMC Theatres, will be honored with AFI’s Life Achievement Award.

The award will be presented to Kidman at a gala tribute on June 10 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. She is the 49th person and first Australian to receive this honor.

“Nicole Kidman has enchanted audiences for decades with the daring of her artistry and the glamour of a screen icon,” said Kathleen Kennedy, chair of the AFI Board of Trustees. “She is a force both brave in her choices and bold in each performance. AFI is honored to present her with the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award.”

The 55-year-old is widely considered one of the best actors of her generation. She’s a decorated performer, winning an Oscar for “The Hours” and earning nominations for “Moulin Rouge,” “Rabbit Hole,” “Lion” and “Being the Ricardos.

Marrakech – Director Sally El Hosaini, whose Working Title-produced “The Swimmers” opened the Toronto Film Festival, is turning her attention to one of the biggest mass murder-suicide stories in history with her forthcoming project “Jones.”

The Welsh-Egyptian director, who recently signed with CAA, told Variety at the Marrakech Film Festival that she began working on the film before making her current feature, “The Swimmers,” but is now rebooting the project towards production. “The Swimmers” is playing at the Marrakech International Film Festival this week.

“Loki” star Gugu Mbatha-Raw, a Goodwill Ambassador for Un Refugee Agency Unhcr, is calling for the urgent support of millions of displaced people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo following a visit to the region last week.

The British actor met with displaced individuals and families experiencing life-threatening hardship, caused by the ongoing conflict, increased living costs, dwindling support from the international community, and the effects of climate change.

“I’m extremely concerned,” said Mbatha-Raw in a statement. “Away from the headlines, millions of displaced people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo are struggling to survive. First, they were forced to flee unimaginable violence, and now, due to severe underfunding and shrinking life-saving assistance, they are forced to make impossible choices that no one should have to make. As the situation worsens, women and girls are also at greater risk of violence. We cannot allow this to continue.

Some Aew fans seem concerned about the prospect of Mjf turning heel, but those worries, while reasonable, will ultimately prove to be unfounded. During the October 18 episode of Wednesday Night Dynamite, The Salt Of The Earth cut one of the best promos of his career. For almost 15 minutes, Friedman and William Regal captivated the Cincinnati crowd, making time stand still and changing the air inside Heritage Bank Arena in a way that only a big-time star can. Some of the most prominent wrestling personalities on Twitter called it one of the top segments of the year, and it's tough to argue with that notion.

It was the only time during the two-hour live broadcast that everyone in attendance was on their feet (except for the scary injury situation with Hangman Adam Page). The exchange had a big-league feel, with Mjf making good on his claim of being a "generational talent.
