5 Memorable Tales of Kid-Friendly Halloween Horror from TV Anthologies
Image
Although Halloween is embraced by all ages these days, it was mostly a children’s holiday not all that long ago. What is essentially now a multi-month event was a single day of fun back then. The real world has changed in this regard, but some things stay the same in TV anthologies; kids are still the focal point in stories about Halloween.

In episodic anthologies rooted in horror, Halloween stories occasionally happen but are not guaranteed or even timely. Horror series, after all, do not rely on Halloween in order to be horror. The chances are, though, if an episode is all about Halloween, the protagonists are probably young.

Here are five must-watch tales of kid-friendly Halloween horror from TV anthologies.

Tales from the Darkside (1983-1988)

Trick or Treat

Interest in a Creepshow TV series back in the ‘80s led to the creation of Tales from the Darkside. Before...

Cherry Falls (2000) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Michael Biehn and Brittany Murphy in Corre... no grites (1999)
A new episode of the Real Slashers video series has just been released, and with this one we’re looking back at a film that has earned a solid cult following despite the fact that it’s only available in a cut down, TV-friendly version. It’s Cherry Falls (watch it Here) from the year 2000, and you can hear all about it by checking out the video embedded above.

Directed by Geoffrey Wright from a screenplay by Ken Selden, Cherry Falls has the following synopsis: A small-town sheriff, Brent Marken, discovers the presence of a serial killer in his sleepy hamlet. Since the perpetrator has been targeting only virgins, both male and female, the deaths cause panic in much of the local high school population. Sheriff Marken’s daughter, Jody, is among the potential victims, since she has yet to sleep with her boyfriend, Kenny Ascott. Can the lawman stop...

Texas Chainsaw 3D star Alexandra Daddario says the filming location may be haunted
Image
About a year and a half ago, Texas Chainsaw 3D (watch it Here) star Alexandra Daddario gave an interview where she had some interesting things to say about her time working on the film (which just celebrated its 10th anniversary earlier this month). Daddario revealed that she had tried to get the “Do you thing, cuz!” line cut, and that she is very grateful to have been in the movie. Not just because she was having trouble getting work at the time, but also because there were severe issues to overcome during the production and it taught her “what happens when things go wrong, what happens when things go right, why did they go wrong, why shouldn’t they have happened, how does the studio get involved when something goes wrong, how studios interact with projects.” Now, during a new interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Daddario seems to have...

‘Anyone Home?’ Review
Stars: Monique Gabriela Curnen, Kathy Baker, Luke Ganalon, Jon Jon Briones, Keram Malicki-Sánchez, Maree Cheatham, Jasper Cole, Victoria Cruz, Jill Jordan, Cici Lau | Written by Patrick Cunningham, William Day Frank | Directed by Patrick Cunningham

Genre movies based in the home usually take one of a few routes. They can be a haunted house tale, they can be a home invasion movie or they can be something else. Anyone Home? sits nicely in that ‘something else’ category.

It centres on a single mum, Camila (Monique Gabriela Curnen), who is struggling financially and mentally while bringing up her son. She thinks her luck has changed though when she gets a job house-sitting a model home. All she has to do is decorate the house to look good for when would be buyers look round. But it doesn’t take too long for even that to be too much for her.

Anyone Home?...

Deadly Pleasures: Texas Chainsaw 3D
“Do your thing, cuz!”

Not since Busta Rhymes challenged Michael Myers to a kung fu fight has one moment in a horror movie so signified that a beloved franchise had completely lost its mind. But unlike Halloween: Resurrection, which represents the desperate, pandering death rattle of the Halloween franchise, those four words spoken near the end of 2013’s Texas Chainsaw find the series embracing a lunacy it had left behind for 20 years and attempting to inject new blood into Tobe Hooper’s dynasty. Literally. [Spoilers for Texas Chainsaw follow.]

Though it made a boatload of money upon its January 2013 release (about two and a half times its $20 million budget), Texas Chainsaw—originally called Texas Chainsaw 3D, as it was the first in the series released in the 3D format—is the kind of widely reviled sequel that most horror fans mention in conversations about the worst modern franchise films, standing alongside Jason Goes to Hell...

Masacre en Texas: herencia maldita (2013)
'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' Prequel to Follow Leatherface's Teen Years?
Masacre en Texas: herencia maldita (2013)
The long-running Leatherface horror franchise got an update last year with Millennium Films' Texas Chainsaw 3D, which starred Alexandra Daddario as the daughter of Loretta Sawyer, and the cousin of Leatherface (Dan Yeager) himself. Back in January 2013, we reported that a sequel isn't in development, though Bloody-Disgusting claims that a prequel is moving forward instead, which may explore Leatherface's teenage years.

The production company is currently in talks with an unidentified screenwriter for this project, which will actually be a sequel to Tobe Hooper's 1974 original classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and a prequel to last year's Texas Chainsaw 3D, which means that Dan Yeager and the rest of the Texas Chainsaw 3D cast will not be featured. That would also mean that Leatherface is also a teenager in the original? Which doesn't make sense, since he is clerly a forty-year-old man. Maybe this new prequel will provide flashbacks?...

Complete Buffy reviews: Earshot
Perhaps the only real problem with Earshot is that it misses a blindingly obvious trick. On today of all days, Buffy – having been infected by some demon mind-reading gunk – can't mentally earwig on the thoughts of The Mayor and Faith. She could don one of her brilliant disguises (as seen in I Robot...You Jane) and then show up to The Mayor's pristine office while camouflaged as a postie or a pizza delivery girl or a double glazing sales rep. It's odd that Buffy doesn't attempt this, given that it could be the ideal opportunity to throw some more light on this Ascension business.

The mind-reading staple's another cliché of stock fantasy and sci-fi, but what Earshot does is to carefully look at the up and down sides of this condition. It's an extra sense that I bet people would think about having. It's the sort of thing that would...

DVD Review: 'Texas Chainsaw'
★★☆☆☆ Picking up where Tobe Hooper's classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) left off, John Luessenhop revs up Texas Chainsaw (2013) with some fresh young flesh and, for the loyalists, special guest appearances from four beloved cast members from previous instalments - including the original Leatherface himself. In the aftermath of the original's bloodless slayings, a group of angry vigilantes take action against the evil Sawyer family when a terrorised young woman escapes from their house. Word of other murders soon spreads through the town and the Sawyer family home is burnt to the ground by outraged locals.

Decades later, a young woman named Heather (Alexandra Daddario) discovers that she has inherited a luxurious Texas estate from a grandmother she never knew she had. She's reluctant to uncover her roots but with the support of her boyfriend Ryan (Trey Songz) and friends Nikki (Tanya Raymonde) and Kenny (Keram Malicki-Sanchez) she sets off on a deadly road trip.

Texas Chainsaw - Blu-ray Review
Leatherface cranks his weapon of choice for yet another outing that starts interesting and wastes any potential it had in the opening minutes. Texas Chainsaw (the seventh film in a franchise that has never lived up to the first) was directed by John Luessenhop (Takers) from a screenplay by Kirsten Elms, Adam Marcus and Debra Sullivan (both who wrote the story with Stephen Susco). It stars Alexandra Daddario, Dan Yeager, Trey Songz, Scott Eastwood, Keram Malicki-Sánchez, Tania Raymonde, Shaun Sipos, Thom Barry, Richard Riehle, and Paul Rae. The film also features cameos from stars of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre - including Gunnar Hansen, John Dugan and Marilyn Burns. Although the film.s story is so weak it seems...

Texas Chainsaw

Evil Wears Many Faces

Revving Up Monday 27Th May

Lionsgate’s Texas Chainsaw, the Us #1 box office hit, picks up directly where the terrifying 1974 movie, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre ended, with the repercussions of Leatherface’s shocking slayings. In the aftermath of Tobe Hooper’s classic, the townspeople take dramatic action against the Sawyer family. They had long suspected that the family was responsible for several mysterious disappearances and had their suspicions confirmed when a young woman escaped the house. Word of the murders quickly spread, and a vigilante mob of enraged locals surrounded the Sawyer stronghold, burning it to the ground and killing every last member of the family – or so they thought.

Decades later and hundreds of miles away from the original massacre, a young woman named Heather learns that she has inherited a Texas estate from a grandmother she never knew she had. After embarking...

'Texas Chainsaw 3D' tacky yet gory (Ians Movie Review)
Masacre en Texas: herencia maldita (2013)
Film: "Texas Chainsaw 3D"; Cast: Alexandra Daddario, Dan Yeager, Trey Songz, Scott Eastwood, Tania Raymonde, Shaun Sipos, Keram Malicki-Sanchez, James MacDonald, Thom Barry, Paul Rae, and Marilyn Burns; Director: John Luessenhop; Rating: **

The two stars that "Texas Chainsaw 3D" gets is because everything is relative. Given the genre, the look and feel of the film, it deserves this and nothing less.

The prologue establishes that the current saga is directly linked to the 1974 released Tobe Hooper's original "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre". The latest one in the franchise, picks up right where the "...Massacre" left off, with a fair-minded sheriff (Thom Barry) arriving at a farmhouse to arrest a member of the cannibalistic.

Texas Chainsaw 3D - See the Leatherface We Should Have Gotten
Love it or hate it, Texas Chainsaw 3D made an impact on genre fans. That being said, the one thing nearly everyone can agree upon is the fact that for a majority of the movie Leatherface's mask is easily the worst of the franchise. Get ready for a peek at what could have been.

Each of the designs below flat out blow away what we saw in theatres and just add to the whole "What the fuck were they thinking?" canon of questions regarding this movie. Check 'em out!

Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013)
Directed by: John Luessenhop

Written by: Adam Marcus, Debra Sullivan, Kirsten Elms

Featuring: Alexandra Daddario, Tania Raymonde, Adam Yeager, Trey Songz, Shaun Sipos, Keram Malicki-Sánchez

I have a confession. Despite living in Texas, I've never been a big fan of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise. I actually didn't see the original film until I was 25 years old, which shocked most of my friends considering what a horror buff I am. But it just wasn't a staple in my household. (My mom and I were both Jason fans to the core.)

I'm also not as venomously anti-remake as most of my friends. Do I wish Hollywood would get new material and invest even a fraction of those monumental budgets into indie films and original ideas? Absolutely. But from a marketing perspective, it's easy to see why they don't; these franchises are guaranteed cash in the bank, and many younger audiences aren't even familiar with the originals.

Texas Chainsaw 3D Sequel Is Not Moving Forward at This Time
Masacre en Texas: herencia maldita (2013)
Yesterday, we reported that Millennium Films was already planning a sequel to Texas Chainsaw 3D. Today it seems that the company's Chairman Avi Lerner spoke to soon.

Rights holders Carl Mazzocone and Mark Burg made it clear that there is no forward movement, as of yet, for a sequel with the following statement.

"The rights are controlled by Carl and Main Line Pictures, no matter what Millennium says. Millennium simply sold the foreign rights and they will not tell us when a sequel is ready to be made. The script was developed by Carl, myself and writer/director John Luessenhop. Millennium and about ten producers came aboard only when we needed their check. Maybe they're looking for something to sell at Berlin, but they have no right to announce this sequel and if we make another it has to be as good or better than this one and that takes time.

The Texas Big Mouth Massacre - Texas Chainsaw 3D Sequel Talk Premature
Texas Chainsaw 3D is a strange animal. Everything about the flick is wonky and weird, and we guess in some way that's kind of appropriate. In any event don't get too revved up about a sequel yet, kids, as there's more to the saw. No idea what that "more to the saw" means, but it sounded cool.

Yesterday Deadline announced that Texas Chainsaw 4 was on the way, which is befuddling in and of itself as there are several sequels, one remake, and one prequel already; however Texas Chainsaw 3D was said to be a direct sequel to the original, really making it Texas Chainsaw 2 so a sequel to that would have been Texas Chainsaw 3 and not Texas Chainsaw 4, but we must remember that this new series is also home to a 40-year-old character portrayed by a 26-year-old hottie. Where was I? Oh yeah...

Today the rights holders for the film,...

It's Official - Look for Another Chapter of Texas Chainsaw from Millennium Films
In an announcement that surprised no one given Texas Chainsaw 3D's number one spot at the box office last weekend, Millennium Films is moving ahead with Texas Chainsaw 4, and production will begin later this year in Louisiana.

Per Deadline, the next installment will be spearheaded by producer Carl Mazzocone, executive producers Mark Burg, Avi Lerner, Tobe Hooper, Trevor Short, John Thompson, Danny Dimbort, Lati Grobman, and Christa Campbell. Considering TC3D took in a surprisingly high $21.7 million gross and a per screen average of $8,193 on 2,654 screens, Millennium is smart to strike while the iron is hot.

“Lati and Christa brought the idea of this franchise to us. They were certain of the audience appeal so we signed on,” Millennium Films Chairman Avi Lerner said, “and it turns out they were right. It was a bloody good decision. Lionsgate agreed to distribute the film in the Us and did a fantastic job.

Texas Chainsaw 3D Review: Early Contender For Worst Movie Of 2013
Rating: 1 out of 5 stars

It’s all downhill from minute one in Texas Chainsaw, which begins with a 3D opening credits sequence featuring clips of Tobe Hooper’s classic original, a ham-fisted attempt to shoehorn this stillborn “sequel” into the mythology of the series’ best film, while ignoring all of the vastly inferior efforts that followed. However, like 2011′s crass “prequel” to The Thing, Texas Chainsaw is essentially a remake dressing itself up as something different; a lazy, cynical mix of predictable jump scares and unimaginative kills, many of them stolen verbatim from the original film.

The problems begin with the concept; the opening scene continues immediately after the events of the first film, whereby a gang of vigilantes burn down the Sawyer family farm, presumably killing Leatherface and his entire murderous family, except for a baby girl, who is taken in by a local family. Then we shift to...

Film Review: 'Texas Chainsaw 3D'
★★☆☆☆ An apparent sequel to Tobe Hooper's notorious (and masterful) 1974 cult classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013) starts promisingly but soon becomes yet another sub-standard American gorefest, with little or no real body. Directed by John Luessenhop and starring Alexandra Daddario, Trey Songz, Tania Raymonde and Keram Malicki-Sánchez, this new instalment lacks the buzz which lifted the original above your average slasher film. This time around we follow the story Heather (Daddario), who has inherited a house from a dead grandmother whom, until recently, she didn't even know existed.

Lionsgate Will Be Keeping Texas Chainsaw Revving
Things are looking really good for Leatherface and the Sawyer clan! While we're waiting for the official box office tally to come in, news has hit the net that if this one is successful, the producers behind Texas Chainsaw 3D have acquired the rights to make up to 7 films, including this one!

According to Bloody Disgusting this Leatherface adventure is the beginning of an entire new franchise at Lionsgate, and as always, the success of each film dictates what comes next.

Masacre en Texas: herencia maldita (2013)
Title: Texas Chainsaw 3D Director: John Luessenhop (‘Takers’) Starring: Alexandra Daddario (‘Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief’), Dan Yeager (‘Metal Heads’), Marilyn Burns (‘The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’), Tremaine “Trey Songz” Neverson, Tania Raymonde (TV’s ‘Lost’) and Keram Malicki-Sánchez (TV’s ‘True Blood’) Creating a frightening, original sequel to a cult horror classic that helped launch the slasher genre can be a difficult process for many filmmakers. Helmer John Luessenhop, who is making his horror film directorial debut, tried to create a new, unique entry in the acclaimed ‘Texas Chain Saw Massacre’ series by making a quasi follow-up to Tobe Hooper’s 1974 original movie. Exclusive: Texas Chainsaw 3D Interview with Alexandra Daddario and Trey Songz
Alexandra Daddario
Starting in 1974 with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Leatherface can almost be considered as the horror genre's equivalent to James Bond. Every few years or so, another crop of kids find themselves fleeing from this chainsaw-wielding madman in either a sequel or a reboot. Opening in theaters January 4, Texas Chainsaw 3D could possibly be considered both a sequel and a remake, since it gives us a fresh take on the franchise while still continuing the original storyline from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, albeit several years later. The story centers on Heather (Alexandra Daddario), a young woman who has never known the truth about her real family, until she receives word that she has inherited a Texas estate from a distant relative. When Heather and her friends take a detour on their road trip to check out the house, well, let's just say that's when that unmistakable chainsaw sound starts up once again.

New TV Spot for Texas Chainsaw 3D – ‘A New Beginning. Same Legend.’
Texas Chainsaw 3D hits theatres this Friday, opening the first weekend of the year by rebooting one of the longest-running franchises in horror, dating back to the original 1974 cult classic.

The townspeople long suspected the Sawyer family, owners of a local barbeque pit, were somehow responsible. Their suspicions were finally confirmed one hot summer day when a young...

This Friday, January 4th, Lionsgate is unleashing the Texas Chainsaw 3D in theaters everywhere, and to get you fiends ready, we're bringing you an entire series of exclusive interviews with the cast and director John Luessenhop all week long.

First up in our series is co-star Tania Raymonde ("Lost," "Death Valley"), who plays Nikki, the best friend of Heather Miller (Alexandra Daddario), who inherits much more than a mansion after her long-lost Aunt Verna passes away. As we discuss with Raymonde, Nikki is the 'resident slut' in TC3D but isn't a total lost cause either- the actress explains why as well as discusses the challenges she faced during one hellacious stunt in particular and talks about the pressure of living up to horror fans' expectations, too.

Check out the highlights from our exclusive chat with Raymonde below, and look for more interviews all week leading up to the release...
