‘Freddy vs. Jason’ Soundtrack Makes Vinyl Debut from Real Gone Music
Image
Freddy vs. Jason slashed into theaters on this day in 2003, the Real Gone Music is celebrating with the first-ever vinyl pressing of the soundtrack.

Due out on October 10, it features songs from Slipknot, Type O Negative, Sepultura, Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, Hatebreed, and more.

The 2xLP album pressed on red smoke colored vinyl, limited to 1,500, housed in a gatefold jacket.

Real Gone writes, “When Freddy Krueger of Nightmare on Elm Street and Jason Voorhees of Friday the 13th butted heads in the 2003 film Freddy vs. Jason, the result wasn’t just the most financially successful film for either franchise; it was also the inspiration for possibly the greatest heavy metal soundtrack ever.

“Drawn from the astonishingly deep Roadrunner label roster, the line-up featured songs from Sepultura, Slipknot, Type O Negative, Sevendust, Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, Hatebreed, Chimaira… the list goes on. Not only that, but 14 of the 23 were previously unreleased!

Schuyler White Cast as Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th: Sweet Revenge
Image
The Friday the 13th franchise's next Jason Voorhees has been announced. Jason is the iconic hockey masked serial killer who is the primary antagonist of the slasher franchise. Over the years, he has been played by a variety of actors, including Kane Hodder, Ted White, Ken Kirzinger, and Richard Brooker.

There has not been a Friday the 13th movie since the property was remade in 2009, due to a long-running legal battle over the rights to the screenplay for the original 1980 movie. In 2021, the domestic rights were awarded to original screenwriter Victor Miller.

One of the projects that Miller is involved in is an upcoming franchise called the Jason Universe. The Jason Universekicks off on August 13 with a 13-minute short film titled Sweet Revenge that will debut on the franchise's official YouTube channel.

ScreenRant has confirmed with a representative for the short that the role of Jason Voorhees in Sweet Revenge...

Crystal Lake: Jason Voorhees Has Finally Been Cast In Friday The 13th Prequel TV Series
Image
Deadline (via FearHQ.com) has revealed that A24's Crystal Lake TV series has found its Jason Voorhees in Chucky and Long Bright River star Callum Vinson. The actor, born in 2014, will play the child version of the terrifying serial killer, as the show shifts the spotlight to his mother, Linda Cardellini's Pamela Voorhees.

It's previously been reported that Pamela will be portrayed as a mother who gave up a singing career to raise a special needs child. Things take a dark turn when Jason drowns at summer camp—the titular "Crystal Lake"—prompting Pamela to go on a killing spree, making the camp counsellors pay for their negligence.

However, when the young Jason witnesses one of the camp counsellors decapitating his mom, he's inspired to go on a murder spree of his own. There's a supernatural element to the character, but it's thought he survived that apparent drowning...

Friday the 13th Prequel Finds Its New Jason Voorhees
Image
The new Jason Voorhees has just been cast. A young version of the character is set to be featured in the upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series, Crystal Lake, and the new Jason is among a handful of additions just revealed as new cast members.

Per Deadline, Callum Vinson is set to portray Jason Voorhees in Crystal Lake. Notably, Vinson is being billed as a "recurring guest star," as Jason is not expected to be the main focus of the series. Crystal Lake primarily follows his mother, Pamela Voorhees, with Linda Cardellini in the role.

The series will reportedly reveal Pamela to be a former singer who gave up a career in show business to raise her special needs child. As fans familiar with Friday the 13th lore will know, this ends up taking a dark turn when Jason drowns at Camp Crystal Lake. Pamela blamed the counselors for choosing...

Peacock’s ‘Friday The 13th’ Prequel Series ‘Crystal Lake’ Finds Its Jason Voorhees in ‘Chucky’ Actor
Image
Filming is underway on showrunner Brad Caleb Kane’s “Crystal Lake,” the upcoming Friday the 13th television series from Peacock and A24 that will serve as an expanded prequel to the legendary slasher franchise. And the new Jason Voorhees has boarded the project.

“Chucky” actor Callum Vinson has joined the series as young Jason Voorhees, Deadline reports today.

Vinson, who recently starred as Henry Collins in “Chucky” season three, is billed as a recurring guest star, as this new project focuses on Jason’s mother, Pamela Voorhees. The series’ version of Pamela Voorhees is “believed to be a mother who had given up a singing career to raise a special needs child and takes a dark turn when she loses her son.”

Linda Cardellini stars in “Crystal Lake” as Mrs. Voorhees, who was of course the killer in the original Friday the 13th (1980). She’s joined by William Catlett (Abigail...

Peacock’s ‘Friday The 13th’ Prequel Series ‘Crystal Lake’ Casts Callum Vinson As Jason Voorhees
Image
A new Jason Voorhees has joined the Friday the 13th universe, as Callum Vinson boards Peacock’s prequel series Crystal Lake from A24. Brad Caleb Kane serves as creator, writer, showrunner and executive producer of the series.

The hockey mask-wearing serial killer from the big screen is the son of Pamela Voorhees, to be played by Linda Cardellini in the new show. Cardellini’s Pamela is believed to be a mother who gave up a singing career to raise a special needs child and takes a dark turn when she loses her son.

Crystal Lake is a town, a lake, and a summer camp in the franchise, the setting of the series. Voorhees drowned in the lake as a child, which led to his mother’s killing spree at the camp to avenge his “death.” Jason witnessed his mother’s decapitation by a camp counselor, which...

Slasher Icons Kane Hodder & Bill Moseley Team Back Up for Another Horror Movie
Image
Kane Hodder and Bill Moseley are both bona fide slasher superstars, and will star together in Brian McQuery's latest horror project, Covet. Hodder portrayed Jason Voorhees across four Friday the 13th films, and Moseley played Otis B. Driftwood in The Devil's Rejects.

Per Variety, the two horror legends will appear in McQuery's sophomore effort, with his first film having been last year's Plea, starring Nightmare on Elm Street star Heather Langenkamp. The official synopsis for Covet reads, “When a sleazy car salesman is framed for the murder of his mistress, he must prove his innocence — only to learn the forces responsible may not be human.”

Hodder has been a mainstay of the horror genre since he first put on Jason's mask in 1988's Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood. He became the first actor to reprise the role of Voorhees, appearing as the masked killer in Friday...

Ranking the Jason Voorhees Actors on a Wintery Friday the 13th
Image
Few franchises own a day of the year, but even fewer own an inconsistent date. That inconsistency helps make every Friday the 13th feel like a surprise in its own right, which makes any time to celebrate Jason Voorhees a worthwhile occasion. With that in mind, one of the cooler aspects of the franchise has been a rotating group of actors, each with their own spin on Jason Voorhees. Don’t get us wrong, a lot of this comes down to the directors and quality of the movies, but each brings something unique to the role.

Ranking the Jason Voorhees Actors 13. Dick Wieand (Friday the 13th: A New Beginning)

Well, sorry if you didn’t know that Dick Wieand plays Roy, who becomes Jason. However, A New Beginning a shockingly bad entry as a whole. His ninety-ish seconds are indicative of the poor quality of the movie overall. Nothing against Wieand,...

The Only Actor To Play Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, And Leatherface
Image
Once upon a time, the most popular monsters of filmdom were linked to certain actors. Though other individuals would play these roles over time, ask any movie buff to name the performers best known for portraying Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy and the Wolf Man, and they'll fire back with, respectively, Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, Karloff again, and Lon Chaney Jr. But while these roles were spoken for in the public's consciousness, one of these actors was famous, at least among seriously committed horror fans, for having played all four of Universal's marquee monsters -- and that actor was Chaney Jr.

Nearly 40 years after these fearsome characters' heydays, a new batch of beasts sprung up to terrify audiences the world over. These were the slashers, the most prominent being Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, Leatherface, and Freddy Krueger. Combined, these characters have appeared in, to date, 42 movies. Yet while these murderous...

Freddy vs. Jason is Slashing Up HBO Chart After Streaming on Max
Image
Many movies have been called out for focusing too much on fan service over pleasing a general audience. That was not really a complaint that any A Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th fan should have had when Freddy vs. Jason finally became a reality in 2003. While it received a mixed bag of reviews from both critics and audiences, the films recent leap into the HBO movie chart has proven that you really cant keep a good movie maniac down.

Freddy vs. Jason is one of many horror titles added to Max last week in the build up to Halloween, and fans have been very quick to reacquaint themselves with the horror mashup that pitted two cinematic icons against each other long before anyone believed Godzilla v. Kong was ever a possibility. The film has bobbled around the Top Ten for the best part of a week since it dropped in the U.

Wes Cravens Iconic Horror Face-Off With 42% on Rotten Tomatoes Is a Shocking Win for Max
Image
Spooky season is officially here and what better way to celebrate than with one of the most famous horror face-offs of all time? Freddy vs. Jason, the 2003 classic starring Robert Englund and Ken Kirzinger, has jumped into the top 10 charts on Max, currently sitting at #10, behind Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill's 22 Jump Street. Freddy vs. Jason follows both Freddy Krueger and Jason Vorhees as they return to terrorize the children of Elm Street, only to discover that this time, they have to go through each other too. In addition to Englund and Kirzinger, Freddy vs. Jason also stars Kelly Rowland, Monica Keena, and Jason Ritter, and the film currently sits at a 42% score from critics and a 50% rating from general audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.

Friday The 13th: Every Version Of Jason Voorhees Without His Mask
Image
Jason Voorhees has become synonymous with his iconic hockey mask, which has kept the "Friday the 13th" franchise in the public consciousness despite Jason having not appeared in an official, franchise capacity since the 2009 remake. It's the result of some legal issues between the franchise and the character's creators, but that dang hockey mask has guaranteed that just like the slasher villain who wears it, Jason Voorhees will never die. Hardcore horror fans know that the hockey mask didn't show up until "Friday the 13th Part III," but even more interesting is how Jason has been presented behind the mask or in a few instances, without it completely.

Jason Voorhees has been through it over the years. He's drowned (more than once), been struck in the head with an axe, impaled through the skull with his own machete, hacked to bits, chained to the bottom of a lake, taken a boat propeller to the throat,...

Every Actor Who Played Jason Voorhees In Friday the 13th Movies, Ranked
Image
Throughout the Friday the 13th series, many actors have played the iconic killer, Jason Voorhees, some better than others. Jason Voorhees cycled through looks and costumes across the years, as well as actors, many of whom only played the character once. The films sometimes brought in different actors in each movie to stand in for Jason when he wasn't wholly on screen, but each movie generally has one or, in some cases, two actors associated with the role. Many shots of the killer remain faceless, mirroring Jason's menacing yet sneaky killing style.

Jason Voorhees typically wears a hockey mask when his face is shown, which has become synonymous with the killer. The character design allowed him to be played solely by stuntmen since throughout the Friday the 13th franchise, Jason kills but doesn't speak. With a series that is over 40 years old with many film and television installments, fans are...

Changing This Iconic Character in Freddy vs. Jason Makes Absolutely No Sense
Image
Love it or loathe it, seeing two iconic horror icons go at it in 2003's Freddy vs. Jason is pretty awesome. Did it live up to its billing? Debatable, but it would mark the last time we would see either character in their original franchise form, with the film serving as Ken Kirzinger's first and only appearance as Jason Voorhees, and Robert Englund's swan song as Freddy Krueger (A Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash film never got off the ground and reboots of both franchises happened in 2009 and 2010). The film brings out the best in both characters, from Jason's lumbering, silent, and methodical killings to Freddy's murderous glee and darkly comic quips. However, it brings out something very odd in Jason: a fear of water, and that's a pretty big change for everyone's favorite homicidal goalie.

Freddy vs. Jason (2003) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Robert Englund and Ken Kirzinger in Freddy vs. Jason (2003)
A new episode of the Real Slashers video series has just been released, and with this one we’re looking back at a movie that gave us two iconic slashers for the price of one: the 2003 monster mash Freddy vs. Jason (watch it Here)! Somehow it’s been over twenty years since that long-awaited match-up reached theatres screens, and you can hear all about what happened when Freddy Krueger crossed paths with Jason Voorhees in the video embedded above.

Directed by Ronny Yu (who previously worked with another iconic slasher on Bride of Chucky) from a screenplay by Damian Shannon and Mark J. Swift (with an uncredited polish by David S. Goyer), Freddy vs. Jason has the following synopsis: Get ready for the ultimate showdown! It’s been nearly ten years since Freddy, from the Nightmare on Elm Street series, invaded people’s dreams to exact his deadly form of revenge and murder.

Freddy vs. Jason Props Heading to Auction on Saturday From the Estate of Special Effects Make-Up Wizard Bill Terezakis
Image
Freddy vs. Jason memorabilia, including the original Freddy display head and Jason cowl, are being auctioned off on iCollector with high bids of $700 Cad and $550 Cad respectively. The memorabilia comes from the estate of special effects make-up artist Bill Terezakis, who worked on various films in addition to Freddy vs. Jason. The auction begins on September 30th and includes items such as Jason's on-screen machete and collectible movie scripts. The Friday the 13th franchise is also being resurrected for NBC's Peacock streaming service.

“Place your bets.” 20 years ago, that simple bit of dialogue was cut from the horror film Freddy vs. Jason. The line — relegated to only appearing in the movie trailer — was uttered by Lori (Monica Keena) when Freddy (Robert Englund) and Jason (Ken Kirzinger) were about to fight, during their final showdown. Today, those famous words could have an entirely different meaning, as Freddy vs. Jason memorabilia...

Is Freddy Vs. Jason 2 Happening? The First One Left The Door Open For A Rematch
Image
Ronny Yu's 2003 horror/action flick "Freddy vs. Jason" gave audiences pretty much everything they might want in a sensationalized cross-over between "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Friday the 13th." In addition to the requisite cast of pretty young people getting chopped into pieces by one of the film's two title villains, it featured every iteration of fight between Freddy and Jason. There was a fight in the dream world (where Freddy had the upper hand) and a fight at a real-world campground (where Jason did). There was a lot of growling, cutting, slashing, etc. Whichever villain was your favorite, you saw what you wanted to see.

At the end, the actual victor was left a little ambiguous. It seemed for a moment that Jason (Ken Kirzinger) was the winner, as he emerged from Crystal Lake, post-conflagration, holding the severed head of Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund). Freddy, however, still possessed of his supernatural powers,...

Hatchet (2006) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Image
The episode of Revisited covering Hatchet was Written by Emilie Black, Narrated by Niki Minter, Edited by Kier Gomes, Produced by Tyler Nichols and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.

By the start of the 2000s, there were so many slasher films out there that it was difficult to figure which ones were worth the time and which were not, something that hasn’t changed much since then. However, the mid-2000s saw a few fun surprise slasher films make their way onto screens including films like Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon and today’s film of interest, Hatchet (watch it Here). Coming from a writer-director who knows the genre and has tremendous respect for it, Hatchet was one of those films most of the public didn’t see coming, one that was a bit out of left field if you didn’t pay attention...

Why Legendary Jason Actor Kane Hodder Didn't Return For Freddy Vs Jason
Image
Kane Hodder is Jason Voorhees.

The famed stuntman played the hockey-masked slasher from "Friday VII" -- "Jason X," as well as the characterization in the "Friday the 13th" video game. Hodder elevated Jason to a veritable horror icon, which is why it was a devastating shock when Hodder wasn't cast in "Freddy vs Jason." Hodder spoke at length about the situation during the 2017 documentary "To Hell and Back: The Kane Hodder Story," chronicling his career up until that point. Hodder had just finished "Jason X" when he was approached by someone at New Line Cinema for a lunch meeting, where he was given the script for "Freddy vs Jason" and informed that the movie was finally happening.

"I assumed at that time that meant I was doing the movie," he said. "You're giving me the script and saying 'We're finally doing this movie,' ... pretty sure thing in my mind.

Freddy Vs Jason's Original Ending Set Up A Sequel We Never Saw
Image
Ronnie Yu's 2003 film "Freddy vs. Jason" -- simultaneously the eighth film in the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series and the eleventh film in the "Friday the 13th" series -- finally brought together two of the most popular characters of the 1980s slasher boom and had them wail on each other in a series of supernatural monster fights. Most slasher fans would have appreciated a "Freddy vs. Jason" film about a decade earlier, but there was still magic in the air in 2003; Yu's film made over $116 million on a $30 million budget.

It also, in a very utilitarian way, gave audiences exactly what they wanted. There was a decent-enough retinue of teenage victims to slaughter (led by actress Monica Keena). The story hung together juuuust well enough. And the final fights between Freddy (Robert Englund) and Jason (Ken Kirzinger) addressed any late-night, heavily intoxicated concerns horror fanboys might have posited.

‘Freddy vs. Jason’ 20 Years Later – The Ultimate Horror Battle Still Satisfies After All These Years
Image
I was somewhat of a late bloomer when it came to my exposure to horror. I lacked the cool older relative or friend that seems to serve as a customary gateway for many genre fans. I had seen a few horror movies growing up (Child’s Play and Scream each terrified me at different points in my youth), but seeing Freddy vs. Jason at the tender age of 15 is single-handedly responsible for the horror fandom that has consumed my life ever since. Without the movie — which hit theaters 20 years ago today — I very likely wouldn’t be writing for Bloody Disgusting now.

I knew of Freddy and Jason through pop culture osmosis, but I hadn’t seen any of the combined 17 films that comprised the Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th franchises when Freddy vs. Jason piqued my interest. Even with the advent of Netflix’s DVDs by mail,...

How King Kong And Godzilla Provided A Road Map For Freddy Vs Jason
Image
You didn't have to be a horror aficionado to appreciate the enormity of "Freddy vs. Jason" in 2003. This was two of the titans of the slasher genre finally going head-to-head in a bloody free-for-all. Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees had slashed, stabbed, and otherwise punctured our collective pop cultural consciousness for years by then. As a young kid who had yet to see any of the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" or "Friday the 13th" films, even I knew exactly what was being referenced the first time I saw the scene in "Christmas Vacation" where Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) dons a hockey mask while taking a chainsaw to his gigantic Christmas tree.

Crossover films of this ilk have largely gone the way of the dodo since "Freddy vs. Jason" came out. We're now 80 years removed from Frankenstein's monster meeting the Wolf Man for the first time in Universal's Og Dark Universe,...

Heather Langenkamp in Pesadilla en la calle del infierno (1984)
Send us your questions for Robert Englund, Aka Freddy Krueger
Heather Langenkamp in Pesadilla en la calle del infierno (1984)
Do you have a question for the Nightmare on Elm Street actor, who became the star of many actual nightmares? Let us know and we’ll put it to him

It’s hard to think of a horror movie character more iconic than Robert Englund’s Freddy Krueger. He stars in Wes Craven’s 1984 film A Nightmare on Elm Street and in sequels all the way up to (count ’em!) A Nightmare on Elm Street 6, Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare, and features in 44 episodes of the 80s TV series Freddy’s Nightmares. In 1994’s Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, Englund played a fictitious version of himself who is being stalked by his own character. He brought Freddy back one last time in 2003 for Freddy vs Jason, where Krueger and fellow horror icon Jason Voorhees (Ken Kirzinger) from Friday the 13th are both resurrected and sent to hell. Best place for them.

The Jason Voorhees Power Rankings
Image
Jason Voorhees, the Friday The 13th masked mass murderer who has terrorized horny teenagers at camp sites for generations, has had many faces. This is both a credit to the various makeup artists designing Jason’s gruesome face and the performers wearing those makeups beneath that iconic hockey mask. This Friday the 13th holiday, we rank the latter. The top Jason will be pretty obvious to most Friday fiends… but how does the rest of this list shake out?

We should note that the Friday The 13th franchise also sports three major non-Jason serial killer characters, in the original Friday The 13th, Friday The 13th Part V: A New Beginning (although Jason does make a tiny cameo in both of these films), and of course Freddy Vs. Jason. These rankings will comprise the actual Jasons only.

Child Jasons will be mentioned along with their adult counterparts’ individual entries, except in...

Kane Hodder is arguably the actor with the closest connection to Jason Voorhees, having played the character four times in the Friday the 13th series, while also lending his voice to the recent video game adaptation of the franchise. Furthermore, Hodder isn’t shy about giving his opinion about the property and reprising his iconic performances for fan conventions. In this context, it was surprising then that he was dropped from the part for Ronny Yu’s Freddy vs. Jason in 2003. A set of explanations have now been collected over on Screen Rant though as to why Hodder was cut from the movie.

As fans of the Friday the 13th series are well-aware, Freddy vs. Jason was a long time coming, with multiple scripts eventually resulting in a production that delivered box office success for New Line Cinema. With Robert Englund on board to play Freddy, Hodder seemed like the natural choice for Jason,...

Documentary About Nightmare On Elm Street Legend Has Reached Its Fundraising Goal
He’s part of the the reason you look under your bed at night.

His name’s Robert Englund, and for 35 years, you’ve probably referred to him as Freddy Krueger. Believe it or not, that’s about as long as it’s been since Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street first hit theaters, and among the several spinoffs and sequels it’s spawned, the film’s become a cult horror classic.

A lot of this acclaim can surely be attributed to Englund, whose eerie performance as the iconic dream-hunter has become a staple of scream cinema – showcased in seven additional films ranging from 1985 to 2003’s Freddy vs. Jason. So it makes sense that people want to know his story.

And that’s exactly what Cult Screenings UK’s been trying to provide to us with their latest project, Icon: The Robert Englund Story. Taking to Indiegogo.com,...

Robert Englund And Kane Hodder To Join Forces For Jason X Photo Shoot
Despite the fact that we were granted a Freddy vs. Jason movie in 2003, we never really got what fans had been clamoring for – and that was essentially Robert Englund vs. Kane Hodder. To many, Hodder was the definitive Jason Voorhees, so that wish made sense. Regardless, the studio went in another direction and placed Ken Kirzinger under the hockey mask instead.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not here to play favorites. I’ve met both Hodder and Kirzinger, and they’re great guys. Still, none of us can help pondering “what if?” scenarios had another director been at the helm or another screenplay settled upon.

Fortunately, anybody attending Monster-Mania Con later this summer will receive what’s probably a once in a lifetime opportunity to take a photo with both Robert Englund and Kane Hodder. But if that weren’t enough, Hodder will don his costume from Jason X for the shoot!

Meet Frason: Freddy Becomes Jason in Wicked Halloween Mask Mashup
Heather Langenkamp in Pesadilla en la calle del infierno (1984)
An artist has made custom hybrid masks combining Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees into something called "Frason," and the result is oddly much more horrifying than both characters combined. If the Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street movies terrified you as a child, you're not going to like this mask. Both characters might be pop culture icons, but perhaps it's best to just leave them be as separate individuals. While certainly goofy, the mask is highly unsettling, and after registering that this is a thing that exists you may be left asking, "...why?"

Now selling online, the Frason mask comes two ways. The standalone mask is selling for the low, low price of $200 with only 25 total being sold. Paying $250 will get you the "Frason Delux Version" mask, which comes with a child-size felt hat and resin hockey mask. There's just something inherently comical about adding the tiny...

Neca Celebrates Freddy Vs. Jason with Ultimate Jason Voorhees Figure
Robert Englund and Ken Kirzinger in Freddy vs. Jason (2003)
Jason Voorhees from Freddy vs. Jason is the next Friday the 13th figure to be announced by Neca. This new Ultimate Jason figure stands at 7" tall and looks exactly how he was shown in the legendary horror crossover movie. Like similar releases, he will come in Neca's collector-friendly window box packaging with an opening flap, showing off the figure's beautiful details while remaining pristine. Due to arrive this summer, the Freddy vs. Jason Ultimate Jason figure was officially unveiled today by the popular toy company on social media, and no matter where this entry might stand in your personal rankings of Friday the 13th movies, you've got to admit that this figure looks totally awesome.

Like any good Neca figure, this new Jason comes with many different accessories. For starters, this Jason can be unmasked, rather than simply having alternate heads. Under the mask, we can see Jason's grotesque face...

Robert Englund Explains Why Kane Hodder Wasn’t In Freddy Vs. Jason
2003’s Freddy vs. Jason was a dream come true for horror fans, with Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees going toe-to-toe in both the dream and real world. While it didn’t meet with much critical approval, I thought it was pretty damn good fun, and it’s certainly in the upper tier of both the Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th franchises.

But while Freddy was of course played by Robert Englund, Jason was played by stuntman Ken Kirzinger rather than Kane Hodder, who’d been Jason since 1988’s Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood and reprised the role in Friday the 13th: The Game). Up until now, the reason for this had remained a mystery, but this week has seen an unreleased interview with Robert Englund on the set of Freddy vs. Jason in which he discusses the reason why director Ronny Yu decided to recast.

Unseen Freddy Vs. Jason Robert Englund Make-Up Chair Interview [Exclusive]
Happy Freddy Krueger Day! We have unearthed never-before-seen footage from the set of Freddy vs. Jason which features a very rare interview with Robert Englund sitting in the make-up chair, as he gets prepped and ready to fight Jason in the nightmare dreamscape unlike anything seen before it. Here, we get to see Robert Englund transform as he prepares for his final turn as the iconic dream demon.

We recently rescued this footage from an old dusty VHS tape which is unique in that before Freddy Vs. Jason, New Line Cinema, Robert Englund and the creative forces behind the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise weren't exactly open to letting the actor be seen in the make-up chair too extensively. They believed it destroyed the mystique behind this legendary horror character. Those rules became more lenient as time went on, and this video interview proves to be an important piece of...

Six Jason Voorhees Actors Recreated Their Look For Texas Frightmare, And It Was Awesome
Whether you’re a casual moviegoer or a full-blown horror buff, you’ve aware of the Friday The 13th films. And whenever you’re discussing the franchise’s longevity, there’s surely one debate you’ll inevitably find yourself in: “Who played Jason best?” That mostly comes down to personal preference, of course, but six of the actors responsible for bringing the slasher icon to life came together at Texas Frightmare recently and even better, they recreated their iconic looks for photo ops.

As you can see in the gallery down below, we’ve got Ken Kirzinger (Freddy Vs. Jason), Tom Morga (A New Beginning), Steve Dash (Friday the 13th Part 2), C.J. Graham (Jason Lives), Ted White (The Final Chapter) and Kane Hodder (Jason Takes Manhattan).

They were photographed in their costumes over the weekend in Grapevine, Texas at the Hyatt Regency Dfw International Airport. Each of the costumes are spot on,...

Ken Kirzinger at an event for Freddy vs. Jason (2003)
While Ken Kirzinger is often solely credited for playing Jason Voorhees in Freddy vs. Jason, it’s interesting to note that Kirzinger actually didn’t play Jason in the film’s final moments. For that final scene, wherein Jason emerges triumphantly from the waters of Crystal Lake, carrying Freddy’s severed head, the horror icon was played by stuntman/actor […]...

Never Before Seen Freddy Vs. Jason Bts Image Emerges
Long before any sort of justice had ever dawned, Freddy vs. Jason debuted in cinemas as what may be remembered as the first notable crossover between two major horror franchises. Since then, we’ve received a couple Alien vs. Predator movies, the second of which performed so poorly that Fox split them back into their own separate entities, and to a much, much lesser extent, Lake Placid vs. Anaconda.

So, while it remains doubtful that any sort of sequel will happen outside of the comic book realm (one adding to Ash of Evil Dead fame to the mix nearly made its way to the big screen), we’ll continue going on interesting bits of trivia to preserve the memory of this mashup.

On that note, we’re pleased to be able to bring you a previously unseen photo showing Robert Englund, Freddy Krueger himself, catching a breath in between takes.

Legendary horror actor and stuntman, Kane Hodder.
Snubbed Friday the 13th Actor Confirms Sneaky Freddy Vs. Jason Cameo
Legendary horror actor and stuntman, Kane Hodder.
Kane Hodder had the honor of portraying Jason Voorhees 4 times, more than any other actor has played the part, so in the eyes of most horror fans, he's the definitive version of the character. At the time of Freddy vs. Jason, Robert Englund was the only actor who had played Freddy Krueger on the big screen, so he was undoubtedly going to be in Freddy vs. Jason. In the end, the filmmakers chose to go with Ken Kirzinger in the role of Jason after he played the part in Jason Takes Manhattan, leaving a bad taste in the mouths of horror fans all over the world. However, Kane Hodder now reveals that he made a small cameo in the movie after all.

In a new interview, Kane Hodder details how he ended up in Freddy vs. Jason and it's pretty awesome. Hodder goes on to say that the filmmakers didn't...

Kane Hodder Reveals He Was Actually In Freddy Vs. Jason
Once the closing moments of Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday set up a prospective Freddy vs. Jason film, horror fans were forced to endure a strange ballad for about a decade before the big mashup was finally made a reality. And when it did eventually arrive, it was a bit bittersweet because one particular actor was left out of the mix.

At the time, Robert Englund had been the only man to portray Freddy Krueger on film, so that pretty much guaranteed him a spot in the movie. Jason Voorhees, however, had previously been played by a number of guys, although Kane Hodder had done it four times, thus causing many fans to view him as the definitive actor for that particular character.

Unfortunately, Hodder was completely passed over when it came time to get Freddy vs. Jason off the ground. Instead, the filmmakers went with Ken Kirzinger,...

Flashback Weekend 2017: Katharine Isabelle, Ken Kirzinger, Paula Shaw, and Jesse Hutch Look Back on Freddy Vs. Jason
From August 4th through August 6th, Flashback Weekend Chicago Horror Con took over the Windy City, and Daily Dead was on hand for all the horror-fied festivities. Throughout all three days, this writer served as one of Flashback’s co-hosts, and brought back some highlights from several of the panels held over the course of the convention.

Next up are these panel highlights from the Freddy vs. Jason reunion, which featured Katharine Isabelle, Ken Kirzinger, Paula Shaw, and Jesse Hutch. They chatted about their respective characters, the pressures of living up to the fan expectations, working with Ronny Yu, and both Isabelle and Hutch discussed their death scenes in Freddy vs. Jason as well.

For Katharine and Jesse, I would love to hear from you about what it was you saw in these characters, because they’re kind of the worst couple ever, but I say that lovingly. But initially,...
