He and wife Lisa Picotte have guest-starred together on several series, including Camino al cielo (1984) (playing boyfriend and girlfriend), as well as playing husband and wife in Wings (1990) and Paso a paso (1991).

He has two roles in common with Michael J. Fox: (1) Fox played Marty McFly in Volver al futuro (1985), Volver al futuro parte II (1989), Volver al futuro III (1990) and Back to the Future: The Game (2010) while Kaufman played him in Volver al futuro (1991) and (2) Fox played Stuart Little in Stuart Little, un ratón en la familia (1999), Stuart Little 2 (2002) and Stuart Little 3 (2005) while Kaufman played him in Stuart Little (2003).

Has one daughter Grace Kaufman.
