- While at Cambridge Revue Club Footlights, he met Douglas Adams, who later cast him as the utterly ordinary Earthman Arthur Dent in his cult classic Guía del autoestopista galáctico (1981), both in the original 1978 radio series and the 1981 TV mini-series. The two were lifelong friends after college and Jones later spoke at Adams's funeral in May, 2001.
- Having worked together before, Douglas Adams wrote the role of Arthur Dent specifically with Jones in mind.

- With Lisa Harrow, co-starred in "Phallacy", a play written by Dr. Carl Djerassi, (known as "Father of the Birth Control Pill"!) at The Cherry Lane Theatre, NY, produced by Redshift Productions, directed by Elena Araoz..(May 18th -June 10th). In the role of "Professor Rex Stoltzfuss", he was described as "excellent" by the New York Times, and as giving "...a commanding performance of sophistication and vigor" by critic 'William Wolf'.
