When casting for the radio series for "The Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy" radio show began, it was requested that the voice of The Book have a "Peter Jonesy sort of voice". After three or four people (including Michael Palin) had turned it down, the search for the Peter Jonesy sort of voice narrowed in on Peter Jones himself. He said numerous times that he was quite bewildered by "Hitch Hiker's" itself, and even more by the cult following it gathered.
