It’s hard to see a movie this summer and not see Paul Walter Hauser.

The actor is starring in supporting roles in Marvel blockbuster Fantastic Four: First Steps and The Naked Gun reboot, along with a starring role in the finally released Tony Tost film Americana, which went to SXSW in 2023 and was met with relatively positive response before encountering several release delays.

Despite his busy summer on screen, Hauser is quite discerning about the projects he takes on. He reveals he turned down roles in both Kevin Costner’s Horizon and Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers because he knew the roles lacked the depth he’d be looking for when it came time to shooting. “I feel way too competitive and way too hungry to eat garnish and pretend it’s a meal,” the Emmy Award-winning actor tells The Hollywood Reporter on a phone call.

You don’t often see actors offering up a review of their own movie on Letterboxd, but Paul Walter Hauser has done just that with The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Hauser played Mole Man in the film, a character who still made an impression despite several of his scenes winding up on the cutting room floor.

“I love the score, the production design, the performances,” Hauser wrote on Letterboxd. “I wish they hadn’t cut my scene with Vanessa Kirby, but I’m stoked that I got to be in a Marvel movie (first world problem shit; I’m spoiled rotten to get to act). Exclusive: Matlock is on the case this awards season. The Publicists of the International Cinematographers Guild said today that Kathy Bates will receive the 2025 Television Showperson of the Year Awards at the 62nd Icg Publicists Awards luncheon on February 28.
