How Paul Walter Hauser Quietly Became Hollywood’s Most Bankable Star ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Paul Walter Hauser has quietly put together one of the most remarkable box office runs of the past two years. While Pedro Pascal has dominated headlines with his steady stream of projects across film and television, Hauser’s filmography has actually pulled in more money at the global box office since the start of 2024. His success has less to do with being a marquee star and more with showing up in the right places at the right time, backed by the kind of range that makes him valuable in both leading and supporting roles.

It’s hard to see a movie this summer and not see Paul Walter Hauser.
The actor is starring in supporting roles in Marvel blockbuster Fantastic Four: First Steps and The Naked Gun reboot, along with a starring role in the finally released Tony Tost film Americana, which went to SXSW in 2023 and was met with relatively positive response before encountering several release delays.
Despite his busy summer on screen, Hauser is quite discerning about the projects he takes on. He reveals he turned down roles in both Kevin Costner’s Horizon and Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers because he knew the roles lacked the depth he’d be looking for when it came time to shooting. “I feel way too competitive and way too hungry to eat garnish and pretend it’s a meal,” the Emmy Award-winning actor tells The Hollywood Reporter on a phone call.

You don’t often see actors offering up a review of their own movie on Letterboxd, but Paul Walter Hauser has done just that with The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Hauser played Mole Man in the film, a character who still made an impression despite several of his scenes winding up on the cutting room floor.
“I love the score, the production design, the performances,” Hauser wrote on Letterboxd. “I wish they hadn’t cut my scene with Vanessa Kirby, but I’m stoked that I got to be in a Marvel movie (first world problem shit; I’m spoiled rotten to get to act). Excited to follow the Franklin story!!! #FantasticFive.“
Although Hauser found his role cut down a bit, at least he wasn’t dropped from the movie entirely like John Malkovich.

Clint Eastwood debuted his final film last year with Juror #2, but nearly 10 years before he hung up his director’s camera for the final time, he helmed a critically acclaimed docudrama that’s returned to streaming charts. In 2016, Eastwood directed Sully, the disaster biopic starring Tom Hanks (Greyhound) and Aaron Eckhart (Olympus Has Fallen) that tells the story of Chesley Sullenberger, the famous pilot who landed his plane on the Hudson River to save the lives of his passengers and crew. Sully is currently streaming on HBO Max in the United States, but globally, it’s become one of the most popular movies on VOD nine years later. Sully earned scores of 85% from critics and 84% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it grossed $243 million at the box office against a $60 million budget.

Marvel Studios is back tonight, live from sunny Los Angeles, for the blue carpet world premiere of their third and final release of the year, the long-awaited The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
The early buzz has been otherworldly, so expect tonight to be a major event for the entire Marvel family as the stars of their latest blockbuster — Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn — are formally welcomed into the storied Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Director Matt Shakman is also expected to attend alongside the entire supporting cast, and as always, expect Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige to make an appearance — possibly dropping some juicy hints about what’s coming next.
Plus, with Avengers: Doomsday currently in production, there’s a strong chance we might see some cast members from next year’s Marvel epic make a surprise appearance. As for whether Doctor Doom himself — Robert Downey Jr. — shows up,...

Ahead of its world premiere on Monday night, Marvel Studios has lifted the social media embargo for The Fantastic Four: First Steps a little early and it sounds like the early word is exceedingly positive as early viewers are hailing it as a visually stunning spectacle and one of Marvel's best films, with Vanessa Kirby stealing the show as Sue Storm.
While some viewers have taken issue with the film’s story — describing it as either simplistic or nonsensical — it seems director Matt Shakman has successfully nailed the characters, with Marvel’s First Family receiving high praise all across the board. Early word also suggests that both Galactus and the Silver Surfer are poised to become instant fan favorites.

Kathy Bates almost called it quits with her acting career before accepting the lead role in Matlock. Now, she's able to add another impressive accomplishment to her list of accolades by setting a new record with her latest award nomination.
For this year's Primetime Emmy Awards, Bates was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Matlock. At 77 years old, this makes Bates the oldest-ever nominee for that category. The record was held by Imelda Staunton, who was 68 when nominated for playing Queen Elizabeth II in the Netflix series The Crown. While Bates has the record for that category, Carol Burnett has the record for the oldest performer to have ever been nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award; she was up last year for Palm Royale at the age of 91.
With Matlock, Bates has already garnered nominations at the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Golden Globe Awards.

Clint Eastwood debuted what will likely be the final film of his career last year, but one much older project from the acclaimed actor/director has become a surprising hit on streaming. Eastwood stars in and directs Pale Rider, the 1985 Western following a mysterious preacher who protects a humble village from a greedy mining company intent on taking their land. Pale Rider is currently streaming for free on Tubi, and it’s become one of the most popular movies on the streamer, sitting at #4 at the time of writing. Pale Rider was universally beloved by both critics and audiences, earning a 94% from the former and an 83% from the latter on Rotten Tomatoes. It also grossed an impressive $41 million at the box office on a modest $6 million budget.

Sundays at 7, on the dot, not matter what.
After months of teasing their Sunday family dinners, Marvel Studios has finally released the full clip showcasing the film's most pivotal Sunday dinner where Sue (Vanessa Kirby) and Reed (Pedro Pascal) are running a little late after receiving some exciting news.
The pair are greeted by Ben (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and Johnny (Joseph Quinn), who after some fun family banter, begin to congratulate the soon-to-be new parents.
Since the film isn't due out for a few more weeks, tracking isn't entirely reliable at this stage, but the early numbers are looking good, with pundits pointing toward a potential domestic opening weekend in the $125 million to $155 million range, which would be a gargantuan win for Marvel Studios as they attempt to recalibrate the Marvel Cinematic Universe ahead of next year's winter blockbuster Avengers: Doomsday.

Marvel Studios is officially bringing the Fantastic Four into the MCU, and their first movie is almost here. The Fantastic Four: First Steps lands in theaters on July 25, 2025, but fans are already getting a preview of what’s coming, thanks to a new comic from Marvel.
The comic, The Fantastic Four: First Steps #1, gives a sneak peek at the team’s MCU origin. It shows how Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm go into space and end up gaining their powers. Classic origin story stuff, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
This story kicks off something much bigger. The Silver Surfer is on her way to Earth, which only means one thing: Galactus is coming too. And if you know anything about Marvel comics, you know that’s bad news.

Clint Eastwood’s 2018 crime drama The Mule has climbed into Netflix’s top 10 movies this week, reaching the number 7 spot. The film stars Eastwood himself as Earl Stone, an octogenarian war veteran and gardener who becomes a drug mule transporting cocaine on behalf of an Illinois cartel. It’s based on the true story of Leo Sharp, who became known as the world’s oldest drug mule after he was caught carrying 200 kilograms of cocaine across Michigan on behalf of the Sinaloa Cartel, in 2011.
As well as playing its lead character, Clint Eastwood directed The Mule, which became the first Clint Eastwood movie since 1997’s Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil to star his daughter, director and actor Alison Eastwood. She plays her real-life father’s daughter in the movie, too, although Iris Stone is estranged from her father Earl for most of The Mule’s 116-minute runtime.

The April 17 finale of Matlock ended with a shock for Madeline “Matty” Matlock (Kathy Bates) and her family when a man claiming to be her grandson Alfie’s (Aaron D. The Naked Gun Official Trailer Is The Single Most Important Trailer Of The Year (And Maybe All-Time)
To kickstart their very Mission: Impossible focused CinemaCon presentation, Paramount first debuted the official trailer for their upcoming action-comedy The Naked Gun, a movie they are cheekily describing as "The single most important Naked Gun movie since the other Naked Gun movies."

After his big break in a scene-stealing supporting role in I, Tonya, Paul Walter Hauser has become one of Hollywood’s most unlikely leading men. Working with such acclaimed filmmakers as Spike Lee (BlacKkKlansman and Da 5 Bloods) and Clint Eastwood (Richard Jewell), and starring in franchises like Cobra Kai and the upcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Hauser is one of the most reliably great actors working today.
Hauser’s latest role is as the lead in The Luckiest Man in America, a thriller in which he plays an unemployed ice cream truck driver who beats the odds to rack up the record for highest winnings on the game show Press Your Luck. To the role, he brings not only his signature charm but also the depth and humility that makes his work so special.

Review: As someone who has been trying to get on Jeopardy! for a while, I have always been fascinated with the contestants’ backstories who have made their way onto shows watched by millions. While few controversies have compared to the one chronicled in Robert Redford’s Quiz Show, the circumstances surrounding Michael Larson’s then-record-breaking appearance on Press Your Luck is a bizarre chapter in pop culture history. The Luckiest Man in America dramatizes the events of Larson’s run on the popular game show with the great Paul Walter Hauser in another fantastic performance.

Clint Eastwood is one of the greatest movie directors of all time. This past year, he released what might be his final film, Juror No.2, and it didn't disappoint. Throughout his career, Eastwood has cemented himself as a filmmaker of habit. He gets into a rhythm and follows trends. For years, Eastwood was dedicated to the Western genre, releasing Unforgiven, Pale Rider, High Plains Drifter, and more. Soon after, he found himself in the business of dismantling bureaucracy with Changeling, Sully, and Richard Jewell. Somewhere in between these two trends, though, Eastwood found himself fascinated with war. The war genre is wide, varied, and controversial, ranging from grandiose battle films to propagandized nonsense to unflinchingly realistic depictions of violence, all the way to haunting portrayals of post-war blues.

Clint Eastwood, ever heard of him? Of course you have … though maybe not around these parts. Whether he’s on screen, behind the camera, or, hell, even both, the two-time Oscar winner is best known for grounded dramas, cutting-edge westerns, crime thrillers, left-of-the-dial comedies, biopics, and the list goes on. But Horror? Short of his bit parts in The Witches and Revenge of the Creature, you’d have to bend the tenets of the genre to make it work.
The most malleable of his films to the Horror genre is his directorial debut: 1971’s Play Misty for Me. Written by Jo Heims and Dean Riesner, the taut thriller pre-dates the “-from hell” subgenre (think: Fatal Attraction) by nearly two decades. It’s also a better movie than most of them. Eastwood not only proves to be the lean and mean director we know and respect today from the get-go, but...

Exclusive: Matlock is on the case this awards season. The Publicists of the International Cinematographers Guild said today that Kathy Bates will receive the 2025 Television Showperson of the Year Awards at the 62nd Icg Publicists Awards luncheon on February 28.
The annual award honors an individual whose accomplishments in TV best represent that special spirit traditionally defined as showmanship. Patrick Stewart received the honor at last year’s ceremony.
“Kathy Bates has consistently captivated audiences with her versatility, depth and the sheer power she brings to every role,” Publicists Awards Chair Tim Menke and Sheryl Main said in a joint statement. “It’s our honor to celebrate her unrivaled career and dedication to her craft.”

With 2024 over, the year was chock-full of financially successful blockbusters and critically acclaimed dramas that are destined to take over the award season. Those movies defined what 2024 was and will be remembered long after. However, when most people were paying attention to the sure-fire hits, several films didn't get the appreciation they deserved.
There are a few loyal people who spread the word about these specific movies, but it wasn't enough to get them out of the status of being overlooked. Despite being generally well-received, these 2024 films couldn't reach a wide enough audience and didn't make the grandest splash at the box office or on streaming. From Netflix originals like Rebel Ridge and His Three Daughters to well-cast dramas like The Bikeriders and Saturday Night, there were plenty of 2024 movies that people largely missed out on.

Can “Matlock” crack the case of the disappearing SAG Awards broadcast nominations? The CBS drama has been an out-of-the-box hit this fall, earning acclaim for star Kathy Bates and even already landing a Season 2 pickup. The folks at CBS Studios are bullish enough on its awards chances — particularly for the beloved Bates — that they’ve made it a priority in the kudo space this year.
And honestly, as it should be. Kathy Bates is an Oscar winner (for 1991’s “Misery”) and has earned three more Oscar noms since then — as recently as 2020, for “Richard Jewell.” The breadth of Bates’ work can be illustrated by her two wildly different Emmy wins: For sitcom “Two and a Half Men” in 2012 and the creepy series “American Horror Story” in 2014. In an industry that is sometimes criticized for playing it safe and holding back honesty, actor Paul Walter Hauser is like a breath of fresh air. Paul Walter Hauser is an active Letterboxd user — sometimes even critiquing his own movies.
On Wednesday night, the actor took to X to respond to a post that reads, “Paul Walter Hauser giving Richard Jewell a 3.5 on Letterboxd, a movie in which he quite literally plays the title character, is one of the funnier things I’ve come across on that app.”
Hauser replied: “If I think The Shawshank Redemption and Schindler’s List are 5/5, and Richard Jewell is not a perfect movie/bonafide classic, what’s wrong with giving an honest rating? It’s a good film that is definitely worth watching. A 3.5 out of 5 is not a slight. It’s reality.”
Hauser starred in the 2019 Clint Eastwood-directed crime thriller as Richard Jewell, the man who found a bomb during the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta and alerted authorities to evacuate — only to later be wrongly accused of planting the explosives himself.

The star of Clint Eastwood's 2019 drama defends his Letterboxd rating for the film after being taken to task on social media. Over 50 years later, the 94-year-old Hollywood legend is back with his 40th film as a director, the courtroom drama Juror #2.

Juror #2 has had an incredibly weird release strategy, with this plan being immensely confusing after Clint Eastwood's $173 million box office hit from only six years ago. Clint Eastwood is a legend of cinema known for playing some of the most iconic roles in history. From "The Man with No Name" to "Dirty" Harry Callahan, Clint Eastwood has entertained audiences on screen for more than sixty years. There have been some conflicting reports regarding the release strategy for Juror #2, Clint Eastwood's latest and possibly last film as a director. The movie was made for the Max streaming service, but word on the street is that Warner Bros. pivoted to a theatrical release following positive test screenings. When it was revealed that the film would only be given a limited run on 50 screens (it's currently playing on just 35), some saw it as blatant disrespect to Eastwood, who has worked with the studio for years. The headlines were grim. Slapped with poor reviews and a B- CinemaScore from audiences, Robert Zemeckis’ new movie Here opened to just $4.8 million from 2,642 North American theaters over the Nov. 1-3 weekend despite the intriguing chance to see the veteran director reunite with stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright for the first time since their seminal, Oscar-winning film Forrest Gump three decades ago.
Every major studio passed on making Here when Miramax shopped the generational-metaphysical drama. Miramax sold off foreign rights and was able to secure a distribution deal with Sony’s Tri-Star, which has no money in the $45 million pic.

Juror #2 is performing well at the box office in spite of its limitations. Even though the project, which stars Nicholas Hoult as a juror facing a moral quandary, could be Clint Eastwood's last movie, it has received minimal support from Warner Bros. Pictures in its domestic debut. A recent report suggested that it may never expand beyond a 50-theater limited run and that the distributor is not reporting their own box office numbers, in a move that could reflect doubt that it will perform well either commercially or as an awards contender.
Per Deadline, reporting from 35 theaters shows that Juror #2's projected 3-day domestic opening weekend total is between $260,000 and $275,000, which is a solid per-screen average of roughly $7,500. To compare, the opening weekend per-screen average for Venom: The Last Dance, which cost more than 3 times Juror #2's roughly $35 million budget, was $12,348, while the comparably budgeted Smile 2 has a...

Updated: Offshore audiences continue to devour Sony’s Venom: The Last Dance with a sophomore weekend of $68.4M in 66 markets for an international box office cume of $227M so far. The running global total after two frames has clicked past the three-century mark, now at $317.1M, which is 4% ahead of Venom: Let There Be Carnage at the same point in release and at today’s exchange rates.
After last weekend’s powerful launch, which was fueled by overseas and a particularly strong debut in China, the international holdover markets were down just 44%; a better showing than the second frames of Let There Be Carnage (-55%) and the first Venom (-59%). While Venom 3 last session registered the lowest opening of the trilogy domestically, the $120M budgeted movie had a terrific second-weekend hold there, as Anthony has noted.
In new offshore markets, the symbiote thrashed into France with $6.5M, coming in 29% above Let There Be Carnage,...
