The songs are beautiful. Anupam Kher's arc has the most tragic outcome and he, like Shiney Ahuja in the first part, remains all by himself. Ali Fazal and Fatima's story has a lot of soul too. Basu could have snapped short on Konkona and Pankaj Tripathi's story because it drags after a point, drags to irritation. Sara and Aditya's story had a lot of wit and charm, but lacked soul. And there was ABSOLUTELY no need for horse-shoeing the Rainbow prpaganda. It murdered an otherwise fascinating film.

"Zamana lage" and "Aankh mudi, khwab aya" are the best picks among Pritam's melodies.

The cinematography, as always, is delicious.

I just wish Basu goes back to making little gems like Barfi and Jagga Jasoos.

His Gangster and Metro days are best left behind.

I frankly don't understand the hate this film is getting. Yes it's no masterpiece but its painstakingly crafted, every frame of it. The origin story of Mufasa and of course, Scar, is written deftly and the film successfully tugs your heart as well.

There are some very slight doses of feminism but that much is tolerable. The background music is beautiful and the songs are written with a lot of poetic mastery. The qualms? It could have included some more action and at times, some allowable gore.

And other than that, Mufasa and Sarabi's lovestory could have been given a bit more of meat (they're lions, after all)!

Rest, the film overall, is pretty good. Please watch it instead of paying attention to the naysayers.

Nag Ashwin, take a bow. Yes the first half drags and the massy comedy doesn't land but those are minor drawbacks in an otherwise EXCELLENT cinematic experience! I would love to see the other Chiranjeevis making an 'assemble' before the birth and the eventual growth of the titular Kalki.

Amitabh Bacchan proves it yet again why he's the greatest, why he's the Shahenshah. At an age of 82, the way he delivers in all fronts, is unfathomable! Kamal Haasan, of course, is amazing. I know Ashwin is saving him up for the later instalments.

Improve the guns, Indianise the ethos more, and let go of the Dune, Mad Max, Alita, Star Wars, Marvel (Wakanda, Kamar Taj, Stormbreaker) derivatives. This franchise will be unstoppable.

The commentary on the socio-political parts was brilliant. I loved the way the makers took a dig at radical feminism with infertility being the norm in the future.

All the best Nag Ashwin. It's very good. I pray that it becomes all the better.
