The film isn't terrible. It might even be a good first superhero film for someone to ever see, to set the standards a little lower for the ones that are actually good, or, rarely, great. It is, however, INCREDIBLY simplistic and unimaginative with the exception of a few elements, so honestly, you could just as well argue that any of the Fantastic Four films made to date would be an good entry point.
I enjoyed the element of having Sue doing some space superheroing while about ready to pop, and indeed Vanessa Kirby was the only real standout. This had to be the worst version of Johnny we've seen yet, and the Thing was not particularly well-voiced or tapped as a narrative device.
A great visual element was the solid work they did with the retro-futuristic alternate Earth design, which I have no complains about. Galactus also did look hella cool, particularly compared to the version we got in the previous FF film. Graphics were certainly not disappointing.
The clear, primary disappointment was the writing and the overall concept and story. The setting was great, Vanessa was kinda hot as Sue, and I'm not even much of a fan of hers, Pedro was alright, a bit miscast for a Reed Richards in my opinion, but Johnny was an utter disappointment, and frankly I just don't find that actor very interesting in anything I've seen him in, he's annoyed me since first seeing him in Stranger Things and I literally avoided the 3rd Quiet Place film on his account.
There's nothing in this film that summons the fun and new feels of Iron Man, Thor, The Avengers, Blade, Deadpool, or even the character development and layered writing of X-Men, X-Men First Class, X-Men Days of Future Past or Logan. All it felt like was a satisfactory 2 hour distraction along the lines of Thunderbirds or any of the other Fantastic Four attempts. Good for Disney if that seems good enough for most viewers, assuming some of the viewers who witnessed Marvel's glory years have died off waiting for its return to form by now.
But that's not good enough for anyone waiting for something MORE. This isn't MORE, this is just MORE OF THE SAME.

Leonardo DiCaprio is a criminally underdecorated actor, but it's ok, because bro gets paid. Same could EASILY be said for Benicio Del Toro.
The film made me feel like I was watching The Fugitive with Harrison Ford's character swapped out for Jeff Bridge's Lebowski, bathrobe, blunt and all. In fact, it gave me an eerily similar vibe to the Michael Douglas classic Falling Down. This new young actress Chase Infiniti is absolutely SMOKING HAWT GORGEOUS, and pretty baby can act and goes hard, has a body, a face, the charm, the look, everything, I look forward to bumping into her again in the future and will be keeping an eye out for her for sure.
This thing supposedly didn't do as well as they'd hoped at the box office, but who cares? I mean, in this day and age, especially with the ridiculous fact of people winning oscars more based on the plight of the character they played than the performance itself, who cares what the box office OR the academy or anyone else involved in the automatron mainstream of film thinks? The critics got it right on this one, art will be art, and good art speaks for itself and needs no sponsorship. Either way though, it will settle with the fallout as a classic over time.
Sean Penn's transformation for the film was nothing less than remarkable.
Bloody beautiful piece. Loved every minute.

More than a little bit like a Lord of the Flies featuring adults. An interesting premise for a film, particularly being based on a true story. A handful of weirdo pre-WW2 Germans findthemselves indulging the hippy life among the isolation of the Galapagos.
Sydney Sweeney is the standout here, breaking out of her typecast, sporting a very decent German accent, and playing a more motherly role rather than the sultry vixen as which she is often cast, with Jude Law putting in a regular showing with his usual commanding screen presence and delivery, while Ana De Armas stands out like a bit of sore thumb, and continues to raise doubts in me whether she can actually properly act at all, but I will give her plenty of credit for being willing to show off her best assets, and, being honest, however she was acting I supposed it did successfully boost my loathing of her as the main antagonist, so I dunno. She just has such a babyface, and such cute cheeks and glowy eyes, I can't take this woman seriously, although she's undeniably sexy.
Learn a bit of obscure history of the Galapagos along the way. 3 good-looking ladies to hold your hand, with Vanessa Kirby in the mix and foxy as always. Learn that being stranded on an island by choice sucks even more than being stranded on one by accident, especially without a volleyball named Wilson.
