Although the premise is old, being stranded on a deserted island. It gives a distinctive edge, first off all the characters are interesting, we have a doctor who went to find his father in Australia, only to find his father had died, but found his father on this mysterious island, we have a rock star junkie who is going through withdrawals, we have a korean couple who can't communicate with any of the other survivors even though the wife can speak perfect English (but she can't let anyone know for fear of her domineering husband), we have an Arabian? guy who is an expert in technology (possibly a terrorist?), we have a mixture of experts in their chosen fields whose only mission is to find a way off this island paradise, which is a paradox, a giant monster that which can only be described as gigantic which no one has actually seen, but may quite well be a dinosaur, a polar bear on a tropic island, giant wild boars, a distress call that has been playing in a loop for over 16 years. One thing I find both disturbing and amusing is that it is appearing to resemble Lord of the Flies with 2 camps being set up, one against the other. All said tho I think this is a show that could last for years and still be interesting, give it a chance if you have yet to watch it.
With garbage like so-called reality shows, Survivor, etc. which have absolutely no basis in reality, this is one show that truly deserves the title of a reality show, John Walsh has probably helped to solve more heinous crimes than any police detective in history. I don't watch AMW that often, mostly cuz where I live very little serious crime happens (I live in the boondocks), but I admire what Mr. Walsh is trying to accomplish, I think John Walsh deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his show, but I get the feeling that if he were to ever win such an honour he would donate the money to a charity that specializes in helping victims families cope with crimes that were thrust upon them by sick criminals.
Its pretty sad when stuff like this happens, unfortunately it happens more often than one might think, and whats even sadder is in this day and age, more than 10 years after DNA has been recognized in courts as a perfect match, that some people still believe that innocent people are guilty, even when their DNA can prove they are beyond any reasonable doubt innocent. People will still be looking at this kid that know him and say, "Oh he murdered his sister" , I know this for a fact, a person in a town not far from where I live spent over 10 years in jail for a murder he did not commit, it wasn't until DNA could be used in Canadian courts that he could completely prove his innocence, he was also browbeaten into a confession, but even with the DNA linking the murder to someone else (who has yet to be found) people in his community think the guy is still guilty. His biggest crime as far as I can tell is that he was a bit weird. And the fact he had actually met the girl he was accused of killing a couple of times, the place he lives in is about 5000 people at most, probably less at the time of the girl disappearing. I live in a town of about 15,000 and have met thousands of people in the town I live in over my lifetime, so if one of them gets murdered, am I gonna be on a suspect list?
