When a terrorist smuggles a bomb aboard a night freight carrying naval mines from Birmingham to Portsmouth and hides them under a tarpaulin in one of the wagons, a bomb disposal expert (Glenn Ford), who has marriage problems, is called in to find and dismantle it, but after it has been made safe there is another shock in store.
Train lovers are going to love this one with atmospheric shots of the railway and the locos - it's a fairly tense thriller, and that due to the quiet terror in the air. It's not a noisy film. You get plenty of British atmosphere, fog, efficient bobbys on the beat and a quick evacuation. It's also a nice nostalgic look at 1950's Britain and the railways and its depots.
The casting is great, Victor Maddern as the terrorist is great as usual and Glenn Ford as the bomb disposal expert is assisted by Maurice Denham. Anne Vernon plays Ford's wife.

When a prominent society doctor is found stabbed to death, suspicion centres on Ruth Collins (Olivia DeHaviland), known to have had an appointment with him on the night of the killing.
But investigating Det Stevenson learns that Ruth is one of identical twins. Is she the killer or is it her sister Terry?
The dark Mirror is a solid psychological thriller involving twins, one of them is a killer and the other not so- of course, Kelly appears to be the number one suspect due to her neurotic (?) behaviour, or could it be the more gentle Ruth? Lew Ayres as the shrink intends to find out and falls for Ruth in the process ... not a good idea...
The cast is great, but it's the Olivia DeHavilland show:; her acting is superb, she plays both sisters distinctively different from each other. The tone is a bit light, oddly contrasting with the dark subject of insanity, jealousy and murder, but the plot and characterisations keeps things boiling until it reaches a nail biting ending.

A bridegroom is about to marry when he receives a mysterious visitor who claims that he was once married to his fiancee and warns that she is mentally disturbed.
In a series of flashbacks, the man - a psychiatrist - tells the groom the horrific story of his own marriage, including his discovery of how she had deceived a previous fiance, a renowned artist Norman Clyde (Robert Mitchum) who warned him of Nancy s kleptomania, incessant lying and involvement with murder; and at the time, Blair refused to believe Clyde, believing him to be the jilted lover.
But is Blair's story also that of the jilted lover; or is he trying to save Willis from marrying a woman with a dark secret?
The Locket is a rather haunting and tense psychological melodrama which features an engrossing triple flashback structure which works in a masterly way. It keeps you guessing all the way to the end, though the ending could've been better and clearer.. The murder wasn't elaborated at all - did she commit the murder?
Still, it's well-crafted and acted- Laraine Day is excellent in her role as a lady accused of jewellery theft which is linked to her childhood trauma. It also touches on class differences and snobbery.
