Horror fans will love the attitude and mood that director Arthur G. Night skillfully delivers in this inspired exorcism story. An unconventional priest is called to restore order when some tenants of a Northern California home unleash the spirits of 2,000 demons - who had been trapped inside of a creepy and haunting "Unholy Song." Like Blair Witch... Candy Man... and Terrifier... UNHOLY SONG suffers from the lack of major-studio polish on lighting and effects. But for originality, characters and execution... it's a 1st rate winner! The film's website is already touting an upcoming UNHOLY SONG 2 - so I think we're witnessing the launch of a powerful new horror franchise!
For those of you who have not ever viewed any of the (many) Yoga videos on the market (at least half of which are from Gaiam!), you won't appreciate the TLC that has been put into the crafting of this impressive, instructional video release. While there is certainly a teen-appeal angle, this video is probably better titled Yoga-Fit and marketing to beginners and intermediate practitioners of all ages. The teen angle makes sense in that the primary talent star is Miss Teen USA Allie LaForce, from a few years back (and now on Cleveland TV News). The yoga master is Kathleen Kastner, who is well-known and respected for her studios and high profile, celebrity clients.
Kudos to Robert Tinnell and his talented team at Allegheny Image Factory for having the balls to apply a contemporary interpretation to Poe's most famous tales. Purists of Poe's time-locked settings may revolt, but for introducing these stories in a manner more readily consumed by today's audiences, the film is a huge success! As described in the press materials, five of the best known, classic tales of terror by Edgar Allan Poes have been re-shot and re-imagined under contemporary circumstances. While the visual effects at times may betray the budgetary and indie origins of this collection, the concepts and execution are otherwise spot on target. Check it out!
