I'm an American living in Japan, but I don't really watch too much Japanese TV. That was until one of my friends turned my on to "Unubore Deka." The show was about halfway through it's run when I moved to Japan, so I went back and caught myself up to where I needed to be, and followed it from there, and I'm sure glad I did.
"Unubore Deka," or "Narcissistic Detective," tells of one conceited police detective who can't help but fall in love with women who ultimately turn out to be criminals. Of course, there's plenty of comedy, a bit of drama (not so much as many other popular J-Dramas, however), and an overall fun storyline with a decent arc.
What made "Unubore Deka" stand out most to me was the character interaction between the main character himself, Unubore, and his 4 bar friends. Each character has their own personality, and although some characters were more developed than others, when together they create a hilarious atmosphere of a bunch of guys shooting the breeze and just having fun guy talk at the bar, something all guy love. Also, (but not really related to the score of the show) Unubore happens to live in my neighborhood, Tokorozawa, Saitama, in the show, which of course is fun because I can say he lives in the same neighborhood as me! :)
All in all, a really fun show, and I'm actually a bit sad it's over. "Hey, hey, hey!"
