Some reviewers really liked this film. I have seen it twice (the second time to find out if my first impression was right), and just cannot like it.

I found no characters to like, even the so-called investigative reporter. The lighting in the movie was dark and locations were obscured. There was a lot of unnecessary non-action like meaningless sex and smoking. And if you are an American you will probably not understand the dialogue easily due to heavy accents.

The story plot has potential: an investigative reporter finds connections between abductions of young girls and is stonewalled by the police.

The only scene that had real action was a torture scene, and the outcome of that was not believable to me. It went back to the dark smoky scenes with a confusing, meaningless ending.

Personally, I found this one of the most tedious movies I have ever seen. I empathized with the character, but basically all that happens is a repeat of what he has already tried. The acting is good.

Some viewers enjoyed this movie, and I almost did by imagining how it would feel to be in the character's predicament and feeling enough empathy to strongly hope for success at every attempt to get rescued.

You really may like it, but to me it is less interesting than "Open Water" in which two scuba divers were accidentally left in the ocean for many, many hours after their diving boat left.

In each case, of course, the viewers want to know how the characters got in their predicament and what the outcome is, but the plot in between the beginning and finish of the film(s)seems like endless monotony.

I was entertained by the action, the scenery in the mountains of Washington state, and the comic mini-scenes that were part of this movie. I very much enjoyed Morgan Freeman's character. There were quite a few scenes where there were ironic quips and mishaps, such as when the cop "accidentally" spilled coffee on a snobby FBI agent.

However, I couldn't quite figure out the plot. I'm not sure the exact details matter anyway because there is enough there to enjoy without exactly knowing who is supposed to assassinate whom.

If you like action movies and enjoy Morgan Freeman's acting, I believe you will at least like this movie. In terms of simple entertainment it was worth my time.
