I was pleasantly surprised at what I watched here! I honestly thought it was going to be some cheesy NOT FUNNY 90's movie just by the PICTURE (I definitely pre judged) but I am glad I watched it. To make a reference, it was kind of like a way better Mr. Bean for me. I don't know exactly why I connected the two, maybe because they're both foreign? Either that or a Deuce Bigalow, another great one. Overall I really enjoyed this movie. It made me laugh and definitely gave me a good movie to recommend to friends. It is so much better to ACTUALLY WATCH IN ITALIAN just because the main character plays the role so well. That and because watching it in Italian (with English subtitles) everything seems way more animated and just overall better and funnier. The plot was also good it was a nice, funny storyline and definitely relatable for the average man, so I would think.
I was laughing so hard reading the other reviews of this movie because I literally couldn't agree more. I tried my hardest to like it and get into it just because I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt that maybe it's just a slow movie that takes a while to get good but it never really did. I found it boring and kind of predictable, but mainly just lacking any real sense of I don't know what. Not exactly lacking plot, not necessarily lacking character development, I'm not sure what??? All I did know is that I would not ever watch it a second time to try to figure it out. I also would not recommend this movie, just because it sounded like it was going to be good but I just didn't like it honestly and could not seem to get into it no matter how hard I actually tried.
Normally I would say this is more of my thing, especially being on Netflix and having that documentary type of feel by being based on a true story, etc. I felt very sorry for Stefano and wanted to learn more about him and what happened after watching this film - we hear about police brutality and things of that nature all of the time, but of course I had never heard of Stefano Cucchi before. I don't really like any of the gory stuff, whether it's gory movies, gory clips, gory pictures, etc. It just never sits right with me. This film was no exception, but it was a different type of film than all the other Italian produced films that I've been watching, and it just goes to show that all people, no matter who, face the same challenges in life and everyone we go there will always be corrupt systems, corrupt people, and victims.
