I've watched the original Mortal Kombat from the 1990s many times and still think it's better than this newer version. The original had a stronger cast and more engaging characters. The setting was also more appealing-it took place in the Outerworld, whereas this film mostly happens on Earth. This isn't a remake but a new story based on the same concept. Some characters are new, while familiar ones return in altered roles.
My biggest disappointment was how little we actually see of Outerworld. The focus here is more on pre-tournament schemes and age-old grudges than on the Mortal Kombat challenge itself. Some jokes from the original were recycled, but they didn't really land this time around. Overall, the film has its moments, but I prefer the older version.

I had high expectations for this film, which is probably why I felt disappointed. It's a retelling of Bram Stoker's Dracula and makes a strong effort to reflect the period, even in its language. However, this gave the movie a theatrical feel, making the performances feel forced. The actors seemed too focused on nailing the vintage dialogue, which affected their delivery-even though the cast includes some well-known names.
There wasn't much I genuinely liked. The characters were overacted, especially Ellen, and the vampire Nosferatu, instead of being creepy, just came across as odd. Supporting characters were also strangely written and poorly performed. Several scenes from the book were included as brief, contextless flashes-honestly, they'd have been better left out. The one part I did enjoy was the final scene. It was strangely beautiful, even if "beautiful" feels like the wrong word for a creature feature.

I saw the trailer and thought it was a horror film, but after reading the synopsis, I wasn't so sure. Thankfully, it is indeed horror. The story follows a recently widowed mother and her two kids living in the countryside, facing intense financial and emotional struggles after the father's death in a car accident. One day, a mysterious woman dressed entirely in black-her face hidden-appears in their yard, silently staring at the house. After a brief interaction, the mother realizes something is very wrong. Soon it becomes clear the woman might not be human at all. As the story unfolds, there's a mix of paranormal activity, buried secrets, and a fight for survival.
I liked the concept, and some scenes were genuinely creepy-especially when the woman just sits there staring. That was the most unsettling part and a highlight for me. However, something felt off. The twist was disturbing and added to the horror, but the ending fell flat and left me confused. I understand modern films often avoid predictable conclusions, but in this case, a more traditional ending might have made more sense. Also, many of the characters were frustratingly irrational. Still, the eerie moments elevated the experience.
