Do NOT see this movie and expect it being like the book. Sit back on the couch, and ENJOY. This is a great movie, and greatly underrated.
This movie is about revenge in its purest form. Its not "bang bang, you're dead, lets go to the next person". Its a good revenge with planning, slowly drawing the victim to the net. The revenge that makes you laugh out loud, the muahaha-laughter, but for the good guy.
Its about Edmond Dantés, the young sailor who has it everything. A beautiful fiancée, a great job, a kind father, a "good" friend. Well everything, expect for money, but what does money matter when you've got everything else? And then, something goes horribly wrong.
Guy Pearce as the bad guy, Oh My God! Only hearing his voice in this movie, makes me wanna break something, and that my friends, is great acting.
James Caviezel as Edmond Dantés, is not only the count who is going to revenge the people who made his life miserable, hes also hot, cool and smart.
The absolute best performance was Richard Harris as abbé Faria, the teacher. This character may be one of the greatest clichés (at least in fantasy): The old man teaching the young man. Clichés aren't always bad, and Harris proves it a 110%. Nobody could have done his character better.
Mercedes was okay, a little bit irritating, but thats more to the actress than the character.
I wont forget Jacopo and Luigi Vampa. You could call them the funny sidekicks or whatever, but without them, it wouldn't have been such a great, enjoyable movie.
And when you see this movie, because it would only be a loss if you didn't, remember, hes a count, not a saint.

Yes. Zac Efron stars in the movie. Some of you may avoid this movie just because of him. And some may just see the movie just because of him. I did neither.
Though, I wont lie. I was once bored and High School Musical was on TV. It would have been better if I would have looked at the wall instead. But Zac Efron is a good actor, at least in this movie. Like my sister said, you can clearly see that Efron and Matthew Perry did some practice behind the camera, creating the same body language, talking in the same way and so on.
The movie is okay. Its not the movie I recommend seeing in the cinema, but if you do, it wont be the greatest loss in your life. If your open-minded, like movies of this kind (especially 13 going 30), then you'll like this movie.
6½/10

People who don't understand this movie, have probably seen it only once. I remember the first time I saw it. I thought it was cool and so on, but I didn't get the hype about it. Surely the storyline isn't that good?
Well, then I watched it again. And again. And again. This is a masterpiece, not because of the storyline, but of those who make the storyline.
This movie isn't about who's the hero, what you win in the end or the survivors of something. This movie is about people, people just like us.
The characters couldn't have been better. In any other movie, if a boxers girlfriend started talking about that she wants to eat a pie, I couldn't care less. In this movie, you care.
Yes, its great that Tarantino made a "pulp fiction" of the movie, but the strongest card is the characters.
The acting is great, the music is good, the directing is super. This is the Movie with a big M.
So, if you've only watched it once and don't get it, please watch it again. You wont be sorry.
