Adult Swim has been a pretty edgy studio for a while now. I don't think it would be right to say it started off like this, but as the studio went on it became increasingly cynical. That's not to say I don't enjoy their in your face and edgy sense of humor, but it does get to be a bit boring after a while. Especially when their flagship series comes with an incredibly ham fisted and frankly boring brand of nihilism.
I feel a lot of their recent successes have the sort of antithesis to this. Haha You Clowns is the main one that comes to mind. It comes from a creator who I recognized. But I never really called myself a fan of his. I guess I just didn't mesh with his brand all too well. Even this show took a little bit to grow on me compared to other AS shows. I think I was probably a bit hesitant to accept how uncynical it was. But once I did, I really liked it.
So the show is a sort of parody of nineties era sitcoms. And that kind of shows in the humor. It toes the line between earnest and not taking itself too seriously perfectly. All the interactions are very heart warming, and you can tell they came from a very genuine place. And it does make very typical sit come jokes, but I feel like most of the humor comes from the general feel. Like the way characters look and move is inherently funny, and while that was probably one of the reasons I was a little hesitant, it really is perfect for this show. Like it's able to tell the viewer that all of this is really just in good fun, but it never makes the show feel any less earnest in its ideas. It really is a breath of fresh air.

If you are the average watcher of Adult Swim shows, the effect that Ha Ha, You Clowns has on you may be the equivalent of putting puppies in front of a group of snotty, disaffected teen boys to watch them struggle with their emotions before folding into a chorus "come here, lil' buddies." You keep waiting for the show to make fun of the characters, but the snark, sarcasm, and meanness never comes. You have confused feelings - the guilt of being an emotionally distant, awful person who revels in meanness. Then, you stretch out your arms to Ha Ha, You Clowns and say "come here, lil' buddy."
More of a feel good show than a comedy but it has had me laughing out loud on a few occasions. The show is silly most of the time but after watching shows like smiling friends this is pretty tame.
If you want a feel good show with some laughs here and there give it a shot. It is very silly but again I think that's normal for most adult swim shows.
After watching the first couple episodes I thought this show is so stupid but it does keep you coming back for more because you simply feel better after watching it.

I love seeing YouTube cartoon animators get picked up by adult swim, this show has a very interesting style of humor, and a postive bond between characters, to me, it's legitimately refreshing to have such a feel good comedy with a dry yet "emotional" humor. I will definitely say it won't be for everyone, but it will have its fans, me included. I'm very excited to see where the show goes especially with the mother of the boys.
Very original, funny, and I've enjoyed every episode so far. It's rare that I find a comedy where I genuinely laugh in every episode. Also rare to find a show that makes me wanna watch it without scrolling. Hope they keep it up.
Adult animation has had a lot of misses for a while now so it's nice to see something worthwhile.
