Excellent documentary revealing why Guillermo del Toro's films aren't horror movies in the traditional or expected way. Neither are his monsters simply tools of frightening viewers. He never employs cheap scary tricks because he examines the psychology, history and emotions of his so-called monsters. They are in fact always, albeit grotesque, always 'beautiful'. Magnificent creations such as the faun in Pan's Labyrinth and the creature in Frankenstein. The backgound might be gothic, but the aim is not to merely scare, but to gain insight and understanding. Del Toro (the bull) has created his own genre and he excels in it. This documentary elucidates his intentions and results.
