In my opinion, Jalan Pulang deserves a solid 9/10 because it has a distinct horror style that goes beyond cheap jump scares or typical ghost stories. From the very beginning, the eerie atmosphere is palpable especially when the story leads into the home of a Balinese shaman, which radiates a deeply haunting vibe. One of the film's biggest strengths lies in its bold use of GORE elements, like a severed finger or a chilling scene of a Balinese dancer dying in a gruesome state. These moments are graphic yet still hold a sense of artistry. The story isn't shallow either; beneath the terror and brutal visuals lies a deeper message about old wounds, guilt, and the journey to return both physically and emotionally. The film dares to blend cultural horror with emotional conflict, making the audience not just scared, but also reflective. There's a slight downside in the lighting some scenes are too dark, which can make it hard to catch important details. But beyond that, this is easily one of the most solid and memorable local horror films I've ever seen. Definitely worth watching in theaters, especially if you're into horror that dares to be different and carries meaning beneath the fear.
Jalan Pulang is a culturally rich horror debut that lowkey surprised me ig. Jeropoint, known for his storytelling online, proves he's got a solid grip on narrative structure and emotional layering. The character arum hits deep, no cap, n the decision to cast Taskya in a non-lead role paid off big time. Saskia literally ate and left no crumbs, especially with strong support from three a list actors that carried the emotional weight like pros.
What makes this film stand out is its unique fusion of Indonesian rituals and folklore, some of which I had zero clue existed. It adds a layer of authenticity that's super refreshing in a genre often dominated by western tropes. Some scenes are full on disturbing like, make u queasy level, and visually it kind of channels the medium.

It's crazy, Jalan Pulang is truly mind-blowing. I thought at first it was just a standard local horror film where the devil appears, screams, that's it. But apparently not, bro. This film is more of a horror that plays with feelings, what makes you uncomfortable is not just because of the ghosts, but because of the gloomy atmosphere and the deep conflict. Throughout the film, I felt like I was being invited into the mind of someone who was under a lot of stress but couldn't tell anyone. The sound is scary, but not tacky. The visuals are dark but cute. And the actors' acting is really good, like you can feel the burden without having to explain it through long dialogue. What makes it cool is that this film really dares to raise the theme of family trauma and loss but wraps it in subtle and elegant horror nuances. So it's not only scary, but it also makes you think. This is the type of film that once you've finished watching it, you'll still be thinking about it when you get home. Really salute the production team, this is local horror that has risen to the next level!
Just finished watching Jalan Pulang and wow... this film is not just about returning home, but more about returning to yourself. The story is simple, but deep. Makes you think, makes you pause, and sometimes makes you slowly suffocate. The cinematography is really sweet - the tone is warm, the vibe is contemplative. The acting is natural, the dialogue is not overdone, in fact it feels like you are listening to a friend vent. The music rarely appears but the timing is perfect, it gets even better.
However, the pace is a bit slow. Some scenes could have been cut a bit so they weren't too draggy. But if you are patient and like slow but exciting films, this is really suitable😍😍😍

I really like how this film addresses social issues without resorting to preaching. It's like... everything is conveyed subtly but effectively. There are subtle hints about inequality, family wounds, and class differences that make you think. The message of this film really resonates with the audience. It's a debut film, but it's already this good! I'll be eagerly awaiting the director's next work.
Unfortunately, the resolution feels a bit too easy. The serious conflict is resolved quickly, making it seem unrealistic. Still, this is a film that has more value than just entertainment. It makes you think and can be a source of reflection.
