Lord of Mysteries fans who’ve been waiting for the release of the English dub are in luck. The series, which is an anime adaptation of Cuttlefish That Loves Diving’s intricate web novel, has captivated hearts worldwide, and while fans are watching every episode with subtitles, they’ve been dying to watch the series with the English dub.
The patience of these fans has borne fruit, because the official X account of Lord of Mysteries has announced the Va cast for the show’s English dub through a post on @LOTM_WORLD/X, and it is stacked. However, there is a huge red flag with the dub. There have been speculations that Crunchyroll will be responsible for the dub, and knowing its track record with inconsistent dubs, the series is as good as dead.

As My Hero Academia comes close to its final season, fans across the world believe that the creators will now pull out all the tricks from their magic hat, whether it be battles, resolution, or cameos that tie with other universes. One such potential cameo that could promote the emotional and narrative stakes would be Koichi Haimawari, aka The Crawler from My Hero Academia: Vigilantes.
While Koichi does not appear anywhere near the timeline of My Hero Academia‘s storyline, his presence would be enough to add depth to everything that the fans know about heroes outside the spotlight. For someone who became a hero as a common civilian, the character never aimed for glory, which could serve as the perfect bridge between the past and present of the hero society.
Why My Hero Academia Should Honor Vigilantes’ Koichi
Koichi Haimawari is nothing like the heroes in the Mha universe.

The world of My Hero Academia has shown us that Quirks come in all shapes and sizes. While the main series certainly gives us more of a look at the different abilities heroes and villains tend to have, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes lets us see Quirks in a way that’s less bombastic. Given that most people can acquire Quirks and not everyone will turn into a hero or villain, it stands to reason that you’re going to have people with Quirks that are a bit more unique in terms of how they’re utilized and what they could do with them. Considering that some of these Quirks seem to have very specific use cases, let’s take a look at some of the more intriguing Quirks and what else they could be used for that isn’t shown in the series. Alright, we need to talk. So, while everyone’s been all about Deku getting all teary-eyed from some other emotional speech or Shigaraki reducing cities to rubble like they’re nothing, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes has been over here working in the background like a ninja. And you know what? It just dropped some big news: Vigilantes Season 2 is finally on the way in 2026.
So, this spin-off anime series that started out with zero hype and a main character whose Quirk is basically “I can kinda slide around” just got the green light for another season. And honestly? That could be really bad for the main My Hero Academia series. ‘Cause let’s be real, Vigilantes is essentially doing all the things that Mha does, just better.

Let’s be real, Koichi Haimawari from Vigilantes isn’t saving the world.

This native integration is another sign of how niche streaming services work their way into the mainstream. Crunchyroll isn’t just for super-fans anymore; it’s positioning itself right alongside the likes of Netflix and Hulu in terms of visibility and ease of access. My Hero Academia is one of the most popular Shonen manga and anime series of all time. Rightfully so, as Kohei Horikoshi’s masterpiece represents the true essence of classic Shonen series.
Be it a compact narrative, thrill, or an action-packed storyline, My Hero Academia is a prime example of what made Shonen the reigning king of the anime industry in the first place.
However, there is one key aspect of storytelling that many of the classic Shonen series failed to fully utilize. Unfortunately, Horikoshi’s series, too, had fallen victim to that. The ongoing spin-off, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes by Furuhashi Hideyuki, has only made it glaringly obvious.

The official website for the spring 2025 TV anime My Hero Academia: Vigilantes announced on June 25 that cumulative total number of views of the anime's opening video on YouTube had surpassed 10 million. The video was posted on Toho animation's official YouTube channel on April 7 and reached the milestone in 11 weeks. Japanese artist Kocchi no Kento , who sang the opening theme song "Kekka Orai," said, "Congratulations on 10 million views and thank you so much for listening and watching! This was an anime adaptation of one of my favorite manga, so I couldn't take my eyes off the video and enjoyed it. I was continually overwhelmed by the exhilaration of the battle scenes, the speed with which they moved around in the moonlit night, and the beautiful light effects. My favorite part in the opening video is the scene at the end where the three vigilantes stand in front of the neon sign that says 'All Right.

Since the beginning of the My Hero Academia franchise, quirks have been established as the strongest power structure in the universe. In fact, the original series consistently pointed out in the beginning that it was the only thing missing from Deku’s character development as the protagonist.
However, the spinoff has subtly hinted that maybe quirks are not the most important thing in the world. In fact, the story has established a major character who is still making a significant impact on the plot without any powerful abilities up his sleeve.
This character is none other than Knuckleduster, one of the strongest characters from My Hero Academia: Vigilantes. Knuckleduster’s physical prowess and his iconic tools, combined with his wits, are proof that Deku would have become a hero without any quirk, much less the strongest quirk of all in Mha.

Pop Step is a central character in the series, and she is an underground idol in Naruhata. My Hero Academia: Vigilantes manages to advance her character growth as well as the narrative by using music. Pop Step sings a song that saves the day while subtly hinting at her feelings for Koichi (The Crawler).
Vigilantes might be a series that delves into darkness, tragedy, and revenge. However, all that intensity and no fun would make the fans dull. It innovates by offering a blend of action and music. It might seem odd to see songs brought into an intense setting, but it works like magic.

My Hero Academia, as a series, made its name from its high-stakes battles, unique characters, and its quirk-based powerscaling method. But creator Kohei Horikoshi envisioned his creation to chart a different direction. He wished to take a deep dive into the concept of heroism, not just through epic fights but also with societal questions that surround being a hero in a world filled with chaos.
While the main series struggled to deliver on this ideology, its spin-off manga, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, is steadily gaining momentum towards Horikoshi’s vision. Introduced as a prequel to the original series, Vigilantes explores the grey area between the Hero Society’s polished front. The story revolves around Koichi Haimawari, a quirkless fanboy, who takes every opportunity to save the innocents from the evildoers.

I have been enjoying the masterful storyline and character designs of the My Hero Academia: Vigilantes anime series since it started streaming on Crunchyroll. The series is a unique approach to the Superhero world, which was left behind by the original series, and it truly makes me happy to see the different side of the My Hero Academia universe.
However, the one thing that I found a little odd about the anime was the animation quality of the series. There is no doubt that the series’ narrative structure is brilliant, but in terms of animation, it was not the best until episode 12 was released.
The episode truly proved to me that even though Bones might have what it takes to impress the fans of the series, as all they can talk about is the visual brilliance that was showcased in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes’ latest installment.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is a breath of fresh air from the increasingly tragic events of its parent series. The anime was welcomed by fans with open arms, and its shifted Pov attracted plenty of Shonen lovers. The story is on a smaller scale and balances both comedy and serious events perfectly.
The fresh take on the Mha universe was much needed, and the protagonist is extremely relatable. Despite all of its positives, the anime (mostly the studio and higher-ups) made one mistake that is now irreversible.

My Hero Academia includes quite a unique cast, some of whom can be jarring to witness. Vigilantes took this to a whole new level by introducing an American Pro Hero, Christopher Skyline, known by his hero name, Captain Celebrity. The man encompasses all the stereotypes in his character.
It’s also evident that My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is heavily leaning into it. Captain Celebrity isn’t just offensive; he loves attention, he’s arrogant and self-confident to a fault, and lacks any tact. He’s still a very kind person, but his flaws are rather loud.
In the latest episode, Captain Celebrity once again swooped down to save the day against a similar villain we saw during his introduction. We wonder if this will become a recurring gag in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes.

As the wait for The Batman 2 is on and the fans are starting to feel the weight of the uncertainty, there is one thing they can do to mitigate the stifling feeling. While the Caped Crusader left a mark on the audience, the sequel’s delay needs to be offset. The fans, fortunately, have a fix, and it’s from Studio Bones.
The spinoff of My Hero Academia, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, hits a lot like Batman. In fact, it has a character that basically dresses, talks, and acts like Batman (impulsively). Instead of views from the high-rises, in Vigilantes, it’s street-level justice. It’s morally grey and ever exciting. It’s a look at heroism that seems familiar to Batman fans.

Spoiler Alert !!!The following episode contains spoilers for Episode 11 of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes.
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes thrives on its distinct take within the superhero genre. It gives us a look at the gritty street-level heroics performed in Naruhata. Being a series based on superheroes, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes has a lot of characters who reference famous heroes from Western comics.
Knuckleduster is supposed to be the series’ Batman. While fun, this growing resemblance risks overshadowing the series’ originality. Episode 11 only helped this resemblance by giving him a stun gun reminiscent of the Arkham games, and this might dilute Vigilante’s unique flair and make him a copy rather than a standout character.

Ever since its first episode, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes has included characters that are completely familiar to fans of the franchise. Since the spin-off series takes place just a few years before the events of My Hero Academia, it's not surprising that characters pop up sporadically, while some of them participate in entire episodes. This week, the show brought two familiar faces to take part in an event that might end badly.
Since the focus of the show was Narufest — a city-stopping event in which Pop☆Step (voiced by Ikumi Hasegawa in the original Japanese and by Macy Anne Johnsonin the English dub) is slated to headline a musical presentation along with other two acts — it made perfect sense to bring back two characters that are known as My Hero Academia showstoppers: Present Mic (Hiroyuki Yoshino/Dave Trosko) and Nemuri Kayama (Akeno Watanabe/Elizabeth Maxwell), mostly known as Midnight. Anime is often influenced by other popular cultures, with manga creators basing several characters on iconic figures from Marvel or DC comic heroes. My Hero Academia: Vigilantes has definitely taken a few liberties in regards to taking inspiration from other heroes for their characters.
The inspiration behind Knuckduster’s character, in particular, has been rather obvious. Ever since My Hero Academia: Vigilantes was released, fans have compared his character with the iconic DC hero, Batman, calling Iwao the Temu or Walmart version of him.

Knuckleduster has been an enigmatic character in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes. Of the Naruhata Vigilantes trio, he is the one who is most intriguing. With a glorious past and a tragic turn of circumstances, Knuckleduster feels like the hero out of an old story.
Knuckleduster’s personality has always been straightforward. Whenever he believes he is facing a criminal or an evildoer, he jumps straight in and attacks, never one to ask questions.
His impulsiveness is contrasted with his moments of maturity, which makes him a comical character. With the revelation about his wife and daughter, it becomes clear that Knuckleduster is just a family man trying to get his family back together.
Knuckleduster’s chaotic persona wasn’t just for laughs
Iwao Oguro, or Knuckleduster was no normal man. He was a Pro Hero, famed for his ‘Overclock’ Quirk, which let him become one of the fastest close combatant heroes.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is on track to become the next big thing within the anime industry as it is perfectly following in the footsteps of its predecessor series, My Hero Academia. The series is the perfect spin-off in every possible way, and it explores a different side of the superhero world, thus adding more perspective to the My Hero Academia world.
However, there are a few fans who believe that My Hero Academia: Vigilantes might have the ability to even surpass the original series, solely because it doesn’t have one limitation within the anime that My Hero Academia had. My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is an impressive spin-off series that has attracted a lot of attention from the fans. The dark and gritty nature of life in the alleys, along with the hilarious interactions and reactions of the main cast, gives it a unique flavor.
The focus of the story is on the trio, the ‘Naruhata Vigilantes’. Comprising the former Pro Hero (Knuckleduster), an idol (Pop Step), and a wannabe hero (Crawler a.k.a. Crueller), the group moonlights as guardians, stopping crimes and protecting the peace of the neighbourhood.
Knuckleduster is the best thing about Vigilantes
Of the trio, Koichi (or Crawler) is clearly poised to be the main character. His intentions, effort, and personality make him seem like a Deku who couldn’t hack it, for a variety of reasons. Koichi is kind, gentle-mannered, and hard-working, but nothing about him stands out.

My Hero Academia is a purely Shonen anime. The setting is rooted in the feelings of camaraderie and working hard to achieve impossible dreams, but My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is a whole new territory. Vigilantes show the dark side of the world of Mha – a world that Deku never managed to glimpse or explore.
By venturing into the darker, grittier parts of being an underground hero (or a vigilante), the series completely shifts genres. The latest episode of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes crosses a line and takes it to the next level, venturing into psychological and body horror.

The recent episode of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes has brought an interesting development to the ongoing narrative of the series. This was one of the very rare moments where the episode was actually used to set up the plot of the next episode, and considering the events that are about to happen in the next episode, it is safe to say that it was truly worth it.
While the overall reception of the episode was quite good, there was one instance that didn’t sit well with My Hero Academia fans. This instance was the short interaction between Pop Step and Soga’s friends, Rapt Tokage and Moyuru Tochi, during the first half of the episode.
This interaction was not liked by fans because Rapt and Moyuru were the characters who physically assaulted Pop Step in the beginning. While it didn’t look like she forgave them, her reaction was...

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes offers a fresh take on the superhero world by focusing on the darker underbelly of the hero society. The story gets a lot of things right and has broken a lot of overused and boring stereotypes so far. In case the showrunners were wondering what stereotype they should break next, we have a suggestion.
The show can ascend to the next level by breaking one of anime’s most tiresome clichés: the love rival trope. We are tired of watching women being pitted against each other in petty romantic competitions, and My Hero Academia: Vigilantes has an opportunity to sidestep this pitfall through Pop Step’s development. The new dynamic she is sharing with Makoto can emphasize collaboration over rivalry and redefine female relationships in anime.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes has been a manga series since 2016, but the anime adaptation by Bones Film only just came out in April 2025. As a spin-off, it’s gained a lot of attention for being unique and independent from the main story of My Hero Academia.
The main advantage of Vigilantes is that it doesn’t reuse or rely on the iconic heroes we met in My Hero Academia. It focuses on an entirely different protagonist, too. It made its own name and has immense potential to be better.
However, some aspects fall short. While fans are loving My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, they can’t say for certain that it’s better than My Hero Academia. It has its strengths, but the main story had much more going for it.
Vigilantes could’ve been a superior storyline to My Hero Academia
