The project was midway through production when Steve Aquilina (copyright owner and executive producer/cameraman of the original trilogy) found out about it. Outraged by what was happening, he threatened to issue a cease and desist order until director Alex Wesley was able to convince him that the remake was a non-profit project and he had no intentions of selling copies and making money from it. Steve later gave Alex permission to finish the film, thus turning it from a fan film to an official remake of Violent Shit II (1992).
The project began in February 2022 when Sergey Lesovoy sent a gift to director Alex Wesley; it was a steel replica of Karl's metal mask made by Sergey himself. Upon receiving the gift, Alex got the idea to do a remake of Violent Shit II (1992). The only issue was trying to obtain the rights. And when attempts to contact Andreas Schnaas for permission to make the project failed, Alex decided the remake would be a fan film for YouTube.
Dissatisfied with the original look for the Mom, Alex Wesley re-shot all the scenes with a more effective design. Footage of the original Mom can be seen in an early trailer.
The original story line was different to the final cut. The film initially had a framing device where Karl Jr, played by Viktor Murzikov, writes a confession letter detailing his brutal crimes which would be shown as flashbacks. An early cut was shown to Steve Aquilina who suggested changes. Alex Wesley re-shot all the scenes of Karl Jr and the Mom with Alexandr Malusha and Tatyana Gramer in the roles and reshaped the structure of the film to be more in the spirit of the original Violent Shit II (1992).
