A bit of fun!

We really enjoyed this series. You'll recognize the actors, if you are fans of British TV. Good, well placed 60's music. Nice break from dramas.

Not a Great Sitcom but worth watching the ensemble cast

I sought this series out because of its cast. We are in the U.S., but we mostly watch British shows, so a lot of the ensemble actors here were familiar to us.

My wife and I found this to be an entertaining enough show. No, it is not in the same league as some of the great comedies in recent years, like Gavin and Stacey, but those sitcoms are the exception, not the rule. These characters did seem predictable at times and even two-dimensional, but there is a chemistry between them that I hope the writer and actors can build upon when a second season gets underway.

A couple other reviews give this 1 or 2 stars and all I can say is - let me send you a few other show titles that I consider to be rated that low and see if you can survive even one episode. Someone compared Boomers unfavorably to Last Tango in Halifax, which is perhaps unfair as that great show is a comedy drama, and the drama is written and acted superbly. This show is not aiming at drama or at cutting edge humor. It seems like an old fashioned sort of sitcom, the laid back sort many of us don't have the patience for anymore.

Great

Truth is, I find Boomers very funny. Again, it is not supposed to be dramatic or intense, just something that is for the laugh. You can sit back and enjoy it with your family. Most people judges Boomers from the start but I believe that it has quite many potentials. The show does, indeed, get funnier later on in the series. The show is entertaining, wonderful cast ( mostly Philip Jackson, who I can recognize from Poirot) and is very relate-able.

I find the characters sharing personality traits that I can see in my older relatives. I believe that the people who were quick to give this show a 1 star were expecting a more dramatic, silly kind of comedy show.

Boomers is your old-fashioned sitcom, funny and relate-able.

Life like it really is

Boomers isn't funny? Personally I reckon series two is about the best thing on telly at the moment.

Anyone who doesn't appreciate the gentle humour is clearly either too young to understand the absurdities of our generation living in the modern world - or the sort of person that watches X Factor and thinks it's entertaining or that Britain actually has talent...

OK series two was a bit slow, but most first series are like that while they iron out the kinks - New Tricks was like that for example and that went on to great things.

Boomers is good old fashioned comedy sitcom. It's not deep or intellectual but it's not designed to be. Lay back and enjoy it for what it is. I know loads of people who are just like these characters in real life!

Likeable Trash

Ah - this is prime fare for retired Waitrose farts - gentle, undemanding comedy that does not require too many brain cells to fire at the same time. The cast is good and their likeability is the key attraction of this series - it is comfortable, simplistic and pleasant waffle with the occasional musical accompaniment and a contrived amusing social situation.

There's a large amount of inconsequential nattering - it's like eavesdropping in a murder-free Midsomer. If you have the patience for it then it will probably afford you a few gentle chuckles but this is largely forgettable stodge.

I've given it a 6 because I failed to laugh at anything in it but I sort of enjoyed it all the same...

Thoroughly Enjoyed

I thoroughly enjoyed this show. I was quite disappointed to see that there were only two seasons of Boomers. I'm assuming that there might be some stark differences in what is considered to be funny in the US versus what is deemed humorous in the UK as I noticed a lot of poor reviews for this title. I guess that might explain the show not making it past two seasons. That, or the writers were just ahead of their time as I am watching this 10 years after it was created. I rated it a 9/10 as the pace of the show does seem to slow done at times, but overall, the writing, the acting, and the chemistry amongst the cast mates were wonderful.

Do not bother

What a complete waste of time. I did not laugh once, the program is supposed to be a comedy, and believe me I have seen just about every comedy sitcom and movie ever, but this was just ridiculous.

I cant even compare it to anything as it's just a bunch of people talking, no jokes, no subtle one liners, nothing exciting happening, no story NOTHING. You could easily put this on to help you sleep... if it wasn't so tedious!

O look that silly woman is waving her phone around again trying to get a signal... O was I supposed to laugh at her idiocy there?

Do not waste your time on this, you have been warned!

Laugh out loud

I recently stumbled upon this gem on Netflix and I must say, even though I am in my 30s, I found it incredibly funny, silly, and clever. It reminded me a lot of my parents, who also have a great sense of humor. The writing and acting were top-notch, with the cast showcasing amazing chemistry on screen. I found myself drawn to all the characters and their quirks. Overall, it was a delightful discovery that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a good laugh and a heartwarming story.

Not sure about the low ratings, perhaps a younger demographic or used to a different type of comedy.

Can't wait to binge the rest of the episodes.

Boomers, why?

I am watching a lot of good actors that seem to be stuck in a farce. It cannot be compared with the excellent Last Tango in Halifax. Crap, utter crap.

Apparently I need to have 10 lines in order for me to express my displeasure. Fine. I suppose that I am annoyed because these poor sad buggers are in my age group, and the characters they portray are caricatures of real people. Hoping it will improve, because there are a lot of actors in it that I admire greatly. Stay tuned ..... If you can be bothered! June Whitfield has just said she can't be bothered, and, thinking about it, neither can I.

How this got onto the BBC, I will never know.

Unexpected Treasure

Let's start with a cast of seasoned, talented actors, who understand how to deliver subtle, arch, and breathtakingly clever comic dialogue, and then having talented writers who can produce it for them. Well, it just doesn't get better than this. Then add the subtle cinematography, which frames the action sympathetically. This is a gem of a television show. Nothing is obvious or seems to be overly wrought. And it has a very natural flow. Except that the dialogue has one funny thing after another in it. Concepts intricately overlap, and you never quite know where the show is headed. As a show dealing with lives starting to come to an end, I think it has no peer. That tepid, mindless, televisual chloroform that is ""Last Tango in Halifax" can't begin to hold a candle to this show. THIS is how it's done. Bravo!

Oh dear....

This was like an American sitcom but without the canned laughter. The idea was good....a group of boomers venting their spleens at one thing or another but the script was dire and the acting left a lot to be desired. You could almost envisage their cue cards off camera prompting the (delayed) punchlines. A shame really. Re-runs of 'One Foot in the Grave' would be a better choice.

Utter trash, and so sad to see great talents wasted.

How on earth did Russ Abbot and Paula Wilcox get so desperate for work that they decided to to do this rubbish. The entire premise is that a bunch of old people keep saying the wrong thing an the wrong time.

Man gives old table to a charity shop, new next door neighbours buy it, wife accuses them of theft.

Couple get attacked by kids. Look I'll show you them, I recorded it. Why do their parents allow that. That's my son!

No fun, no entertainment, nothing to feel good about, just cringe-worthy embarrassment.

I'll remember Russ for Biddly Bomb, the noise of the train, not this.
