A series of funny and chaotic events weaved in dark humour template coupled with complementing BGM's.
The plot of the story revolves around a young sigma male trying to blossom the relationship with his love interest unexpectedly falls into a chaotic situation wherein his lady love is involved and how they made out of it forms the storyline.
Sivaprasad & Siju Sunny has fairly managed to come up with a unique and distinctive narrative style without giving any hint of what is going to happen. The first half of the movie may keep the audience puzzled until the story makes an elevation towards the intermission meanwhile giving delectable and laughter moments through some dialogues. The filmmaker has put the audience in a story loop wherein you have to watch the movie till the end to conceive the complete story .
Impressive performances by Basil Joseph,Suresh Krishna,Puliyanam Poulose & Kudassanadu Kanakam. Startling performance by Rajesh Madhavan throughout the story and he has effortlessly carried the character through his style of conversation and mannerisms. Anishma,Jomon Jyothir,Baburaj & Pooja Mohanraj also made convincing performances.
The impressive background scoring by Jay Unnithan that stands coherent with the mood of the story is worth praising.
A decent movie for the ones who follows this genre but may not be everyone's cup of tea.

When a TV channel interviews a serial killer to know their real pain, or when a police officer puts more effort into finding his missing dog than solving a case - or when a whole village tries to deport the hero to a faraway place because he's a nuisance - or when a popular Malayalam actor appears in an unexpected guest role... you know you're not watching an ordinary film. These kinds of weirdo things don't happen in most movies, but in Maranamass, you get to witness far more absurdity.
The first half really works and makes you smile internally just seeing how ridiculous and imaginative everything is.
The protagonist, Basil Joseph, deserves a big shoutout. He mocks himself continuously and takes digs at Gen Z concepts like how being a social media influencer doesn't always take you far, or pokes fun at the "Sigma Male" trend. He underplays himself in the second half - until the end, where the tone shifts suddenly toward heroism, which feels exaggerated and inconsistent with the earlier parts.
There are some uncomfortable moments too. One scene involving inappropriate behavior by an older man toward a girl could have been handled more sensitively. Still, the way the girl responds adds a certain boldness, and it takes guts to show something like that on screen in a comical way
The promise shown by the first half makes Maranamass feel like a mass dark comedy - even if it's not exactly "maranamass" in the traditional sense. Unfortunately, the second half loses momentum, and by the time you reach the end, you find yourself just waiting for the climax. As expected, it turns a bit too cinematic and over-the-top - a contrast to the wild but grounded absurdity that came before.
Maranamass worked for me - but it's strictly not for everyone. It's a slow-burn dark comedy. Like eating a banana with poison - weirdly, it tastes good and doesn't actually harm you.

The film has a good first half and a watchable second half. There are many genuine fun moments and Rajesh Madhavan's serial killer angle was lit 🔥🤣Basil performed well, supported nicely by Suresh Krishna, making it an enjoyable ride. A psycho killer story morphs into an emotional father-son drama. Basil Joseph bleaches his hair yellow for comedy, but it falls flat. Ultimately, the film feels disjointed and messy. Takes a while to get into the main conflict, from then its a hilarious ride till end. Baring few lags, its a WATCHABLE Black Comedy film! Overall,#Maranamass is a fun and crazy comedy that mixes the confusion of Nunakkuzhi and the relatable fun of Vaazha. The movie follows a funny internet star, Luke, and a serial killer story that keeps you guessing.

Movie is show cased by interestingly taken first half with some interesting characters and events which is follows a comedy track. Characters are brilliantly intertwined each other and movie follows a sarcastic approach throughout its events. Some scores are good and it makes the movie more interesting. However, movie became a bit down after second half. Comedy elements are bit low in the second half comparing to first half because it shifts into an emotional track. Screenplay also contain its own faults and it is evident that they lost the control of maintaining the consistency of the screenplay. Screenplay of the movie became a bit wandered after first half, during second half. I didn't got a satisfying climax to the movie. However, the movie became back on track by the arrival of Babu Ramachandran from 'Vallathoru Katha'. I didn't expected it and it was so surprising for me. His portions are well made. Movie in totality follows a sarcastic comedy track with a dark comedy mode. Movie trolls many things and many persons and it was well taken and satisfying for me even though I am their fan boy. Like I said earlier, the characters are more interesting and performance wise they did a great job, especially that of Basil Joseph's and our convincing star Suresh Krishna's. Suresh Krishna was great in this movie and he deserves mention as equivalent of Basil Joseph. Rajesh Madavan also worth mentioning along with them. What a great performance he made. Bro got a good future. Anishma, Siju Sunny and Babu Anthony also did a great job. I felt Babu Anthony's character as unfitting at some situation. At some portions I felt that he is tired by acting. But in some situations, he did a great job. Overall a good dark comedy movie which follows a sarcastic mode throughout the movie, which followed by first half. Even though screenplay became a bit messy and down in the second half, it is brilliantly masked by perfect characters, performance and successfully maintained emotional track. Score also deserves mentioning, especially that of the antagonist during climax portion. Overall a worth watch.

This is loud, fun and entertaining !
I had pretty low expectations when I started watching it - but the movie surprisingly was fun, flowing, entertaining, refreshingly new and quite funny!
This is a movie like Double Barrel, Neram, Super Deluxe etc. Which may not be 100% coherant, believable and have a whole plethora of characters that many may not have satisfying arcs or conclusions - but the journey is all that matter.
Performance wise Basil stood out and Babu Antony was pretty fun as well - rest were hit and miss.
This is a great movie to watch with friends.
Had the story and editing been a bit more crispy and detailed - I might have even rated it higher - but as it is - this deserve one watch atleast !

I liked the movie you want to know why? Because I expected the film to be like this way as it is a dark comedy genre.
Initially in the film character's are introduced and the actual story start at a bus .An incident occurs in the bus then how these characters deal all of these with a mix of dark humor. The characters are cartoonish and eccentric but the execution transforms the story into a darkly delightful journey.
If you look into the acting everybody's acting were good. I will not say it was the best but it was good.
Technical side was also good . I love especially how the background aligns with the dialogues of the characters that's what makes it's humor more funnier.
It was a good experience for me.

Always we know malayalam industry is rocking to give such a wonderful movies past times. They are doing very well Like manjummel boys, avesham, jaya jaya jaya hey, Guruvayoor ambalanadaiyil, Nehru and maany more. Its also comes from them but somewhere they lost, thats why its came out as a average one. Dark comedy works very well in some moments especially that last tatoo ..... Its hilarios. But somewhere its not worked as expected. There is no suspense in this movie, because they concentrated in black comedy more than thrilling moments. Good try and the whole team is working hard. Congrats to the team.

Its not a complex film guys relax, the film was intended as a fun entertainer with lots dark humour and it works most of the time. A lot of reviews see this as some serious movie, chill out it is not. If you register it as a switch your brain off fun film then you'll have a fun time, if not as one review here said nothing will land for you. First half is filled with lots of fun moments, and by fun moments I mean lots of social media references, second half have less fun moments but it still ends nicely. Basil Joseph was fun to watch but I think more the screen presence is for the side characters.
Overall a fun watch.

Not every movie needs to be deep or poetic. Sometimes, you just want pure mass entertainment, and Marana Mass delivers exactly that - with punchlines, power stances, and enough slow-motion walks to make your popcorn nervous.
It's the kind of movie where you don't overthink. You just watch.
The characters own the screen - larger than life, stylish, dramatic, and unapologetically over the top. The background score is doing 80% of the emotional heavy lifting, and honestly, that's not a complaint. It works.
Action? Check.
Catchy dialogues? Check.
Whistle-worthy moments? Plenty.
Logic? Left the theatre in the first 10 minutes - but that's part of the fun.
Is it perfect? No. The story is predictable, and there are a few dragged-out scenes that test your patience. But if you're in the mood for something mad, loud, energetic, and unapologetically "mass", this one won't disappoint.
Marana Mass is not here to win awards. It's here to entertain. And it does that pretty well.

Maranamass is a film that leaves you confused-not because it's deep or thought-provoking, but because it struggles to decide what it wants to be. It's neither grounded in realism nor does it dive fully into fantasy. Instead, it floats awkwardly in a middle space where nothing really sticks.
The first half is a chaos of trending social media references thrown in one after the other-memes, reels, etc. While this might have been intended to connect with a younger audience, it doesn't quite land.
Basil Joseph, who once gave us the much-loved Ponnman, feels like a completely different person here. Sadly, it's a massive downgrade. Paired with the lead actress-who also delivers a wooden performance-the duo fails to carry any scene, be it emotional or comedic.
The film tries to do a lot: mixing comedy with emotional drama, introducing several new faces, and throwing in plot after plot. Unfortunately, nothing lands. The comedy feels forced, and the emotional scenes are just... boring. At times, the two are blended together, and instead of striking a balance, it becomes a mess where neither emotion nor humor works.
Repetitive scenes, irrelevant subplots, and a frustrating climax only add to the disappointment. Maranamass is buried under weak performances, poor storytelling, and a painfully unengaging screenplay.
If you're a fan of experimental movies, you can give it a try. Otherwise, stay home and wait for it to hit OTT.

Story sets out in a fictional village in Kerala where a serial killer targeting the elderly man and creates a chaos in the law & order situation. On the other hand, a so called influencer, a self-claimed Sigma Male who is a constant nuisance to the people of village & to his girlfriend is being packed to Czechoslovakia to get rid off him & then a Bus Driver who after 21 failed marriage proposals finally getting married & warns the public of the consequences if someone tries to breaks his 22nd marriage & then his brother like , conductor who is an introvert & also mourns frequently for the loss of his dad.
One night the above characters meet in a bus & a murder happens on that night in that bus & how they deal with it forms the rest part of the story.
Usually serial killer, serial killing when designed in a thriller mode, its always in a serious mode but here the director, translates into a full-on fun mode leaving no space of boredom. Dark comedy is not seen much in Malayalam Movies but "Maranamass" comes out to be the winner.
Coming towards the performance, Rajesh Madhavan steals the show. From the trailer, we could see a glimpse of the character, but we could able to see the transition of the character especially at the 2nd half and during the climax we could observe character's extreme inhuman nature & he just stands out well.
Other lead artists like Basil Joseph, Siju Sunny, Anishma Anilkumar, Suresh Krishna had done their part very well.
When coming to fun entertainer movie, its audience does not able to laugh whole heartedly then its of NO USE, but Marana mass gives no complaint.

This movie took me by surprise with its wild plot, fresh execution, and strong direction. What could have easily turned into a disaster due to its unconventional storytelling instead flourished into a gripping and cohesive experience. The filmmakers deserve credit for sticking to the core narrative while pushing boundaries in form and structure.
The music complements the film beautifully, adding emotional depth and energy to an already compelling story. While this film may not appeal to everyone-especially those looking for conventional fare-those who connect with its theme will likely find it to be pure gold within its genre. A must-watch for adventurous movie lovers.

A really terrible movie - haven't seen anything this bad in recent times. It's getting way too much promotion and glowing reviews which are most likely paid. Honestly I expected a lot more from Basil The story just doesn't work - it's what you'd call lazy storytelling Even my friends who watched it felt the same.
When I saw it in the theatre to be honest there wasn't a laugh But when you see social media flooded with people calling it a laugh riot. Seriously start to wonder if they're even talking about the same movie.
Hope you guys come back with something better next time Waiting for that.

It is a very funny movie. However, the movie is strictly for the younger audience i.e people in their 20s till early 30s.
Positives- 1. Good comedy where it is required.
2. Great acting by everyone.
3. Good technical side.
4. In one frame, the director tried to use the LJP-alike frame setting, which is reminiscent of Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam (2022).
5. Music is great!
Negatives- 1. The movie tries to be funny by using the already-overused trope of callback from other movies or events.
2. Comedy is age restrictive, with a lot of reliance of new-age slang, words and mannerisms.
Overall, I liked the movie. It is a theatrical for the enjoyment of it. However, it's OTT release will bring the possibility of pausing/rewinding, to read a lot of hidden jokes.

Overall, it felt like it was all over the place. There were some really funny moments throughout the movie but it didn't really come together to make a proper movie experience. A lot of the plot points just felt like made for the comedy while the comedy that actually worked for me didn't necessarily depend on the plot itself. The inclusion of a lot of Gen Z terms felt very much like a superficial understanding of those terms by millennials without exploiting the possible comedy in it. A lot of the comedy that worked for me felt like it just didn't try to be funnier. Maybe the problem with the film is that it tries to play it too safe and as a result doesn't really earn the genre of black comedy. The actors do great in making it funnier than what is written and the pacing was pretty good. The drama part didn't work, the couple of twists were predictable which didn't help the drama or the comedy at the end. Kripasanam and convincing star being convincing star were my favorite moments of the film. On the whole, it was an average experience for me.

I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone; it's a waste of time and money.
Watching it felt like a chore, as I found myself merely waiting for it to end.
The characters were unimpressive, and the audience struggled to connect with them. The humor felt forced and unnatural.
Overall, the story, characters, humor, and plot all felt lacking and unsatisfactory in every way. Honestly, I cannot recommend that anyone spend their hard-earned money to see this film.
This is my point of view, and it may differ from others. However, my stance on the movie remains that it is not worth watching.

What a fun rollercoaster of a movie plot😄😄😄 I just loved the styling and the overall tone of the movie.
It has some very very good comical lines and parts which stand out for being very intelligent and witty.
Rajesh is like never seen before. I just cannot imagine him in a role like this. He is so consistently good here. Suresh Krishna just kills it with a wonderful role. He carries his scenes with elan. Anishma and Siju do very well. Siju has some wonderful scenes.
And as always Basil just takes his role to another level. He is always the mr consistent.
Overall a must watch. And a movie you can re-watch too. Unfortunately missed this one in the theatres.

A great comedy movie, fun to watch with family and friends.
Lots of laughter if you have a good sense of humor. I do not usually watch much Malyali films but I can sure tell that I am not disappointed. Really loved everyone's acting.
South movies, they get good stories in every movie they make. Interesting and new concept. . Really loved Joseph Basil. Go watch with family and friends and also write a good review here. I find some reviews here are just full of hatred. Maybe they lack humour or do not like the genre altogether or lack brain maybe. The movie is full of entertainment.
Highly recommended!!

A massive disappointment
Directed with little vision or coherence. The film struggles right from the opening scene. The direction is haphazard, with scenes stitched together with no real narrative flow, not engaging.
The script is equally bad-poorly written, riddled with clichés, and completely lacking in originality. The dialogues feel forced, and the plot is predictable from the get-go. It feels like the makers were in a hurry to finish a product rather than tell a compelling story.
Basil, in the lead role, delivers the same monotonous performance we've seen from him several times before. There's no effort to bring anything new or refreshing to his character, making his presence feel more like a burden than a boost. His expressions and dialogue delivery feel repetitive and uninspired.
Lacks energy, emotional depth, and genuine thrills. Even the action sequences and music fall flat.
Avoid. OTT One time watch.

Instead of clever wordplay or insightful wit, it offers jokes that drag on too long or fall flat. That 3 stars is for the Antagonist. Movie relies on tired clichés, mistimed delivery, or humor so forced it feels like an obligation rather than amusement. BTW regarding the acting. It often includes exaggerated gestures, awkward line delivery, or a failure to convey believable emotions. What seemed like edge-of-the-seat action in the trailer turns into repetitive sequences, and the witty one-liners lose their charm when stretched into a lifeless script. Instead of the anticipated spectacle, I was left watching a film that lacks depth, wondering how something so promising could fall so flat. In the end, the trailer remains the best part of the experience because it knew exactly what to hide.

A powerhouse of performances from an all-star cast, but Basil Joseph and Rajesh Madhavan are the ultimate show-stealer.
A Dark comedy has never been portrayed like this before. Maranamass is not just a film-it's a laughter riot where logic takes a backseat and madness takes the wheel.
The story? Yeah, it's there somewhere... but trust us, the comedy is the real hero here. You'll meet characters who take stupidity to genius levels, villains who can't villain properly, and situations that make zero sense-but that's exactly the point! And the cast? Oh ho! Each one is a one-man army of laughter, stealing scenes like pros and dropping one-liners that'll end up as your next meme caption.
If you loved watching Andaz apna apna (Hindi), then you're the perfect audience for this rollercoaster of laughs!

New serial killer dubbed Banana killer is tormenting Kerala and his targets have been elderly men. The case is handled by Ajay Ramachandran who is a tough guy but is hurt by the disappearance of his pet dog. Elsewhere, Luke is arrested for posting about the serial killer and is considered a suspect, only for his town folk to come in support of his innocence. He is about to be sent away to Czhech Republic and has an ugly breakup with his girlfriend Jessie. A bus driver Jithin Kumar's marriage is fixed and the bus conductor Aruvi has grown up with a missing father. A pervert old man Kuruppu gets on the bus driven by Jithin and Aruvi while Jessie and a government official SK are the other passengers. Events lead to Luke getting onboard this bus and the shocker is the serial killer too is on the bus. What does the night unfold, forms rest of the story.
The dark comedy films are a rare genre and is not easy to crack them. Siju Sunny and Shivaprasad's screenplay doesn't really do justice to Siju Sunny's story which definitely had potential. The film starts off well and introduces all it's main characters. The humor works well in the first half and the pace is good too while establishing each of these characters with a bit of back story. The killer too is revealed in the first scene making way for the dark humor to carry the film. What brings the film down is the dull second half where the humor is less and the story feels dragged. The promising character especially that of Ajay Ramachandran and his pet dog get no scope in the story. 5 people on a bus with a dead body and 1 of them being the serial killer was good enough to make a whacky comedy film but Maranamass just misses the opportunity in delivering one.
