Verdict
The older I get the more I find myself enjoying indie titles over AAA's, it's not surprising considering my age and that they generally resemble the kinds of titles I grew up with. I have relatively high standards for games, but graphics are not among them.
Brotato comes under a sub-genre that I really like, arguably more than one. I like the rogue-lite-esque titles, I love the zero progression games where every run is a separate instance and nothing rolls over, where you can build your character however you see fit and where RNG plays a big role. Further more I love twin stick shooters, though this isn't entirely one as auto shooting is on and you don't even pick your targets.
Every time you level up you get to upgrade a stat, you also get to purchase from the 4 randomly generated weapons/perks after each wave. The game is tactical, play the way you want to play and I adore that type of mechanic.
Brotato is complexity dressed up as simplicity with a great difficulty curve and I really enjoyed it.
Rants
What is it with this generations obsession with "Great" graphics? Why does that matter and have you not noticed how many beautiful games lack in other areas as a result. I keep hearing people upset that such powerful consoles are running such basic games, so what? Sssshhh let people like things.
The Good
Very addictive
Well constructed
Plenty of content
The Bad
Certainly niche stuff
Not sure I agree with the auto shooting mechanic.
