Psychologist Júlia (Margarida Vila-Nova) visits Sara's (Laura Dutra) and Luísa's (Paula de Magalhães) school at the request of her friend Leonor (Soraia Chaves). Rita Rodrigues (Helena Caldeira), a young mother, desperately appeals to institutions for help to regain custody of her baby daughter, who was taken from her by a social worker. A series of dramatic events culminates in the tragic death of a young woman. The sea, silent and imposing, is the only witness to the crime, harboring deep secrets that challenge everyone's understanding.

Julia starts collaborating with Inspector Pedro Sousa on the investigation and is confronted with the ghosts of her own past when she has to announce Luisa's death to her parents and Sara. Rita continues to try to get her daughter back and finally finds someone who understands what she is going through. The search for the truth begins. Pedro Sousa has few leads to work with and many suspects. Who could want to kill someone like Luisa?

Leonor is devastated by what is happening to her daughter. Júlia tries to help them, but there is nothing she can do since Pedro Sousa is determined to do whatever it takes to find the killer.

A witness finally decides to speak up, prompting Pedro Sousa to call one of the suspects in for questioning again. With no hope of finding her daughter, Rita falls into a deep despair.
