But it seems these days Ghostbusters has fallen victim of trying too hard and making a connection with everybody by introducing all these extra characters with their own backstory. The ghosts just become a pawn piece and aren't really the focal point. So much promise in the first half hour, but then more new characters, more side stories, lots of one liners, and then...a quick wrap up and credits roll. Snore. Don't waste your $
It's not awful, but it's definitely not 'great'. The cast is bloated, so it feels like a series of SNL sketches cut together. The main plot thread, Phoebe, is probably the least interesting character they could have chosen for the lead plot line. The handling of her character was heavy-handed and pandering. Yes there were sex jokes in the old movies, but Bill Murray's romance stories in the originals were one of their least interesting aspects, and apparently my distaste for romance stories in Ghostbusters movies has not changed.
The effects, sound, music, cinematography and general production value are of high quality. The acting is across the board because there're a zillion actors.
'Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire' snatches defeat from the jaws of victory in an effort to appeal to modern audiences, leading to a forgettable middle entry to what is likely a string of movies that are already declining in quality at a predictable rate.
This movie however, even though it has all the parts needed, was well shot and looked decent enough, had plenty of stars and the original cast, was just dull. Felt like an obligation. Comes across like the first draft and they just said "yeah go with that"..it's low energy low fun low everything. You won't hate it, but you'll probably lose interest half way through and you'd never watch it a second time. Maybe it was a contractual obligation that they make one in a certain amount of time or something, don't know, but it's disappointing.

- CuriosidadesBill Murray has frequently been cited as a reason any kind of sequel to Los Cazafantasmas II (1989) took so long to make. The actor's reputation as a "loose cannon" and his desire to distance himself from the franchise for many years led many fans to believe that movies such as Cazafantasmas: Más allá (2021) and this film would never be made. However, director Gil Kenan, who directed Murray in City of Ember - En busca de la luz (2008), suggests that getting Murray back for this movie was quite easy, revealing: "Well, you know very well that Bill and I have a history because we made a movie together in 2007, a movie that almost cost [Bill his] life. That was the Hall H experience, and we won't go into too much. But it opened the door for Bill and I to have a relationship that has remained dynamic over the years. We've stayed friends, we've kept in touch. When I reached out to him to say that we were creating a story for Peter Venkman in this film, he was really enthusiastic."
- PifiasAn ancient artifact has been safely kept in a special brass lined room for decades and there are no issues until it is removed from the room. The main characters are aware of this, but nobody even suggests either returning the artifact to the room or making a brass lined container for the artifact. From what is shown, that should solve the problem.
