SPINE CHILLING

Watched #TirandajShabor, the fourth installment of the detective Shabor series, adapted from the novel Tirandaj by the eminent novelist #ShirshenduMukhopadhyay, directed by #ArindamSil & co-written by #PadmanabhaDasgupta, produced by #RupaDutta under the banner of #CamelliaProductions and distributed by #SVF.

Direction is definitely smarter than the previous franchises. Shabor is much humane here. But using Rashomon effect in these movies seem cliché now-a-days. Narrative is good too, structure-wise.

Cinematography by #AyanSil is of high order. I must mention in one indoor sequence of Papia's drawing room where ACP Shabor & Nando were interrogating Papia and her lover, where they were tensed at loggerheads. The shot showed 20% of the two subjects' heads only and 80% headspace of Wallprinted Waves. The shot was so 'beautifully disturbing and distorted' yet so meticulous, that resembles any shot from any typical Korean or Iraninan flicks. Kudos to the DOP to have used such a brilliant frame in Tollywood, which broke the stereotypes of usual shot-taking techniques.

Editing by #SanglapBhowmik is crisp too. The film is fast-paced with a run time of less than 2 hour ( 1 hr 53 mins only ).

Music by the maestro #BickramGhosh is the most gripping one, which made the whole film and each scene too intriguing and edge-of-the-seat, giving ample chills and cold blood running down ur spine.

Apu-da, aka #SaswataChatterjee as ACP Shabor Dasgupta as usual excels with his superb dialogue deliveries and body-language ably supported by the comic timings and nuances of #SubhrajitDutta as Nando, Vicky-da aka #NigelAkkara as Sumit Ghoshal/Bulu deserves special mention with his rugged yet charming persona to deliver such a layered character so poignantly. #ArindamSil as Sitanath Samaddar looked vicious through his superb acting. Veteran #ChandanSen as Pareshnath showed his mettle in his scenes. But, must say, there was no clarification of the fact that why his character is shown effeminate irrelevantly. Its not justified through the script. As far as I know, the main novel didnt have any effeminate character. Even if the actor has chosen to layer this character like this, proactively, I must say that unnecessarily its derogatory to titillate audience to provoke laughter by using effeminacy as a card. That portion is quite disappointing.

#PoulomiDas as Sonali Basu in her cameo looked ravishing.

#SaranyaKar as Jamuna is good, but need to work on her accent a bit before playing such a underprivileged character of a slum.

#ParometaMukherjee in her small role showed her prowess by the way she crafted her body language and lines in front of the stalwart, with such ease.

Majo-di aka #DebjaniChatterjee as Papia Samaddar deserves special mention. Each frame where she was in, she just killed it with her persona. Such a strong actress she is !

But unfortunately, to be honest, #DevlinaKumar as Pritha/Rumki didnt impress me me at all. I know she is not a contemporary actress, but a dancer and teacher, but in this character, much layers and voice modulation and intonation is expected, which seems missing in her part, I'm afraid to be such blunt. However she looked gorgeous.

Definitely its recommended to watch this film once for the Cinematography and Background Score as its two pillars. 👍🏻

Saswata is brilliant!! Decent One time watch

Film Review: Tirandaj Shobor streaming on Hoichoi... For my Bong friends!!

#sanjuzzreviews #goendashobor #tirandajshobor #hoichoi Directed by Arindam Sil, Tirandaj Shobor is the fourth film in the Goenda Shobor franchise after Ebar Shobor, Egaler Chokh and Asche Ebar Shobor.

The story starts off well with a taxi driver Bulu ( Nigel Akkara) bringing a dead man to Bhavanipore police station on a rainy night. He says that 3 people sat in his cab but only 2 of them left leaving behind the third dead in his taxi. He does not remember the faces as it was too dark. Who is the dead person and why was he killed in this manner? Is Bulu telling the truth? Has he narrated the entire tale or is there more to it ?

This is where our ace Goenda steps in, to investigate, unravel the mystery and dole out justice in his own special way!!

There are dark undertones to this movie - unfaithful wives, sexual perversions, illicit affairs which are a common theme in Shobor movies. This one doesn't disappoint either.

Saswata Chatterjee as Shobor- Goenda Lalbazaar (as he frequently introduces himself as) is brilliant as usual. Others in the cast Nigel Akkara ( Bulu) , Debjani Chatterjee, the dead man's wife, Arindam Sil ( as the dead man) & Chandan Sharma ( Pareshnath) in a short bit meaningful role add a lot of value to the story. Direction by Arindam Sil is also decent.

However, as compared to the earlier films in the franchise, this one ,though not bad , pales a bit due to the slow narrative and lack of surprise invoking moments.

To give an analogy - It is not an impeccably made dum biryani, but a normal daal chawal.

A decent one-time watch. Definitely want this franchise to continue and see more of Shobor in the future!!

3/5 for this one .. Adios🙂!!

Nope

While watching this film, I came to realise that the only reason Arindom Sil directs films is to be able to act in them, as no other director asks him to act in their movies. Expected to see a lot more of Saswata, who is one of the rare talents of the Indian film industry. The screenplay was not upto the mark and although the first 15m looked promising, it felt like the writers gave up halfway on the plot and it became so predictable that it was tiring to sit through the film. Nothing original and nothing to take home. Saswata and other actors offered their best (except Arindom Sil and even the guy playing "Bulu da" who made it feel that he wasn't paid enough to act) but the film failed due to poor screenplay and direction.

A complete package

A great movie to watch. A complete package whether you talk about action, suspense or emotions. Excited to see Saswata Chatterjee as Shabor Dasgupta after four long years. Great performance by Nigel Akkara and other actors like Devlina and Debjani.

Shabor Dasgupta & Sumit Ghosal

Arindam Sil's perception is extraordinary. This film is very different from other parts and the best part is the confrontation between Shabor and Sumit. What a great performance by Saswata Chatterjee and Nigel Akkara. Even the other actors like Devlina kumar and Subhrajit was beautiful in their own way.

Best Shabor movie till date

Director and the director of photography have done a splendid job, actors are fabulous . The item dance song was not at all required. Music is fabulous but the last song during the endscroll was the best. Actors who nailed the coffin was Saswata chatterjee, Nigel Akkara, Chandan Sen, . A must watch movie.

Ayan Sil;s Magic touch

Ayan Sil's Magic touch made the film more realistic. Superb color contrast. Each scene was beautifully established. Coming to acting like other three parts, this part was differently performed by all characters and Nigel Akkara everyone after seeing the movie is talking about you. Whenever you came on screen, you took away the audience whether your last film Gotro or your debut in Muktodhara and this time in as Sumit Ghosal. Emotions , Expressions everything was at it's peak.

Sumit Ghosal totally different than others

What I saw as a film buff , the character played by Nigel Akkara as Sumit Ghosal was extraordinary. Every moment whether his dialogue timing or controlled tears that part just hit my heart. Great job. He is an asset to this bengali film industry.

Best of Shabor Series

Todai I went to Nandan with my friends to see Tirandaj Shabor. I am a great fan of Arindam Sil's direction. We are all aware of main characters in shabor series whether it's Saswata or Subhrojit but the guy who definitely taken me aback is Nigel Akkara. What a great performance . Just loved his acting. So so natural. And surprisingly as the show ended the full team of Tirandaj was there for a hall visit. What a lucky day for me....

Nigel and Nigel

Nigel Akkara I am basically a Hollywood movie creep. Had to see this movie at cinepolis lake mall 12:10 show. Of course on the fuzz of my friend. Just remembered Marlon Brando by seeing U Nigel, how could you control your tears and the flowing down if the tears with the continuation of the narrative.

Bulu da Rocked

Arindam Sil's direction is fantastic. He is the Godfather of many actors. Like Anirban, Abir etc. Now he chose Nigel Akkara as the correct person for the role of Sumit Ghosal. Nigel Akkara did a fantastic job.

Nigel - The Benchmark of Acting

The only character which touched my heart is Sumit or precisely Nigel Akkara. Sacrificing everything just for his closed people is unthinkable.. Beautifully performed.. Waiting for your next appearance bro.
