I started watching this with least expectations as I was not so blown away by the trailer. I thought this will be another movie in the drama genre. The first 10 minutes I felt I was right the movie will not lead anywhere and remain as another regular flick but apparently I was wrong. The story is a slow burner with the emotions and it detailing about human connection, especially how today's generation treats our tradition and culture. It was so relatable that after a point I was fixed to the screen. I would not give away much but if you you really want to have some good time and can watch a movie keeping your phone aside and feel nostalgic, then this is the one for you. 💗

Beautiful movie! Cast is perfect, acting is perfect, Camera/cinematography is perfect, location is perfect, songs are perfect, storyline and transition are perfect, layers of story was done perfectly. I could honestly watch it for another few hours, like a good book you don't want to end. Rishi Sen, Subhashree Ganguly wow wow wow. The screen presence for every single cast member is quite impeccable. Thank you entire cast, and everyone who worked behind it. So many aspects of our tradition and culture portrayed. Heart warmingly fuzzy and sweet. I have about zero complains about this movie. Such a perfect movie.
Hollywood may have many classic musicals but they could never match the realism and philosophical touch of Regional Indian Musical Dramas, HERE'S ANOTHER PROOF. Hollywood begun successfully with Musical in late 20s and early 30s, just when talkies were established. Many 30s, 40s and 50s musicals have recieved universal acclaim and in 60s, Oscars just went mad over them. Let me tell you i have seen almost all those classic musicals of Hollywood, i mean almost every popular classic you name right from 'The Broadway Melody' in 1929 to 2020's Masterpiece 'Hamilton', and i am writing this review considering all those films. Those popular Hollywood Musicals were mainly made for entertainment hence, almost 99% films had simple theories and light-toned themes. Regional Indian Films have scored better merits when it comes to quality content in Musicals. One unforgettable product for me is Marathi Play 'Katyaar Kaljay Ghusali' (which was also remade in feature film in 2015), and now i have found the Bengali Competitor of it - 'Bismillah'. Yes, I'm yet to watch few other Musicals of Indian cinema from 80s but for the time being Bismillah is apt for me to say this. The story of a classical singer, who finds it difficult to cope with the rising popularity of Western music. Even Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 'Abhimaan' failed to leave an impact on the sames so obviously it become more important thing to notice. Bismillah has everything, from Melodious Music to Meaningful lyrics to powerful writing to amazing performances to lavish set designing to superb direction. One of those rare Musical which gets all the things right and for right reasons. In short, a Cult reformation of Classical Music Art in Philosophical Feature Film.
ART is nothing but a depiction of reality. Very few movies make the viewers think and motivate. Bismillah is a brave attempt by Director Indraadip Dasgupta speaks about our culture and tradition through music. Few sequences and characters are scripted so well that they are timeless. Mythological references are the heart of the film disguised in dialogues, Ridhi Sen, Subhashree Ganguly, Kaushik Ganguly's character portrayal and tops in perfos, an excellent movie made for all generations . . .
In an age of big budget mindless commercial entertainers, here comes a big budget sensible art film. A visual treat layered with Native and historical themes, Bismillah is the story of music which bonds two worlds, two ages, two different styles of music and brings together a narrative that is surprisingly clean, elegant and engaging. Special mentions to the director(Indraadip Dasgupta) and the leading lady(Subhashree Ganguly) of the film. I have also loved Kaushik Ganguly's acting too, especially his different shades portrayed at different stages. It was really so good to watch such a great content oriented movies. Finally A Movie which is Worth a watch!!!
