Do Not Open

An intriguing dive into everyone's unhealthy bonds with all things digital - perhaps all things uncouth and uncivilized.

In fashion with the horror genre, Do Not Open isn't an easy watch out of design, which is a fun, additional layer for the audience to digest at their own pace.

The movie is still a wild, disturbing, bruise-inducing ride, contorting this particular family's mundane into the insane. And what's a good ruffling of the humanity feathers without some extremely awkward memories, a few brutal fever dreams, and a sprinkle of phallic cuisine?

The problem with the business today is that the demand for new streaming content is so great that most providers have lost the ability to simply refuse low-end product. DO NOT OPEN by creator Brian Babarik is a good example. Not only is the notion unoriginal, but Babarik has taken his own work so seriously that the timing, of the editing, of each shot is designed to allow you to pause and spend extra time appreciating the end result. In real life, the extended pacing only grants the audience the luxury of finding fault with the writing, the acting, the direction, the editing and -- my personal favorite -- the atonal mishmash that pretends to be a sound track ((Designated "IMDb Top Reviewer." This movie makes no sense at all. The plot is not worth a dime and they acting is awful. The mom is just weird as hell, the son is an A grade idiot, the daughter is like a shy muppet and the father is just nasty.

There is nothing scary with this movie at all and should not be called a horror movie. The one who wrote and produced this pile of garbage should never ever pick up a pen and paper again, seriously no joke.

Save yourself some time and watch something else, ive seen cartoon scooby doo episodes that scared me more...I love horror movies and it seems like ive watched them all. These new movies just don't hold up anymore.

This movie is absolutely awful. I honestly can't fathom how a group of "professionals" came together and thought that this was a good project. The plot is super vague and makes no sense. The so-called family looks like they are complete strangers. My toddler cousins can act better than that. The mother was super weird, the father was meh, the son was boring, and the daughter was the best character even though she was still terrible. 80% of the scenes were useless and led to nothing. I was confused or cringing for the whole movie. The pacing was horrible, and the writing was godawful. ChatGPT could write a 10x better story. This was a waste of time, and the people who made this movie should never even have the thought to make a movie again.

This is a modern family of four who are all constantly on their devices. The daughter downloads a new computer program and the family gets manipulated. I don't know the filmmaker Brian Babarik or these actors. The father is fine for his dumb character. Who gives up their code like that? I don't think the mother fits the family. In fact, I kept thinking she's a stepmom. The son has some good creepiness although that's the character's one note. Noëlle Gutierrez is interesting, but this is her only credit. I don't know if she is going anywhere. Something happens at the 40 minutes mark that should happen sooner. The program should not be introduced into the family so soon. The family's normal relationships need to be explored before the audience can see the changes. I like this concept and I understand the indie limitations. There are still issues with the execution.
