Behind a seal, generations of the Lu family have lived on the mountain where the Demon King trapped his son, who had been tainted by his father's tinkering with evil magic. But someone has come and the boy is gone.
Lu ZhaoYao leaves the mountain and vowing to be a good person, like Luo MingXuan implored her, hears that the son of the Demon King will be killed - for his identity alone. She rescues him and incurs the ire of the Immortal Sects.
Idealogically betrayed by Luo MingXuan, ZhaoYao is held and tortured. She refuses to reveal Mo Qing's location. She vows vengeance for her grandfather's sacrifice and spends the next 5 years building a new sect and a formidable reputation.
Planning and scheming is no match for fate. Lu ZhaoYao dies. Li ChenLan becomes the leader of the Wan Lu Sect. 5 years later a splatter of Qin ZhiYan's blood awakens a sleeping specter in a icy maze.
Lu ZhaoYao discovers that to others, she has Qin ZhiYan's face. She leads them out of the ice maze and back to Wan Lu Sect only to discover that nothing is the same as before and all her tokens of prestige have been re-purposed.
Lu ZhaoYao receives leniency from Li ChenLan because her surrender reminds him of the past. After being caught again she claims that ZhaoYao is visiting her in her dreams and he believes her. She takes an opportunity to attack him.
The pill has interesting side effects. Jiang Wu visits a border city to make trouble - getting his name out there - and helps Lu ZhaoYao with her good deeds, in a nefarious way. Li ChenLan pines.
Qin ZhiYan finds out that her friend is in danger. Ah Da continues to spy on her. Qin QianXian visits Wan Lu Sect to collect his niece but she is unwilling to leave and ChenLan is not willing to release her.
Yuan Jie, though fiercely loyal to Lu ZhaoYao, is severely critical of Li ChenLan's leadership of Wan Lu Sect. A spy in the Dark Guards tries to capture Qin ZhiYan. Qin QianXian agrees to work with Li ChenLan to kill Jiang Wu.
It's the little things that raise people's hackles or suspicions. A turn of phrase, her appreciation for green fruit, her mannerisms and her arrogance. More than one person is looking at ZhiYan/ZhaoYao strangely.
Qin ZhiYan sneaks the pills to Liu CangLing and he recovers enough to actually escape the prison. But escaping the sect isn't as easy and his concern is for ZhiYan. When Yuan Jie gets in the way ZhaoYao gets injured helping them.
Li ChenLan moves Qin ZhiYan, now convinced that she is ZhaoYao, into the adjacent hall, to Lin Ziyu's jealous dismay. ZhaoYao is determined to kill ChenLan but is later caught off guard by a moment of romance.
Li ChenLan sets out on a dangerous quest to retrieve the sword his father died attempting to get - just because ZhaoYao asked for it. Jiang Wu kidnaps Qin ZhiYan. An injured Ah Da barely makes it back to the sect.
Qin QianXian comes to the rescue of Qin ZhiYan and Jiang Wu is injured. Li ChenLan visits Gu HanGuang for treatment and is reminded that love creates a weakness. His duel with ZhaoYao angers his physician and the leader of his guards.
Li ChenLan takes ZhaoYao to obtain a scabbard from Sima Rong, an important figure when she ran the sect. He admits to him that he thinks she is, at least sometimes, ZhaoYao. Liu SuRuo continues to plot to awaken Luo MingXuan.
ZhaoYao asks Qin ZhiYan what she knows about Sima Rong's situation. Liu CangLing continually tries to take Qin ZhiYan home but she resists. Later he sees her again, but this time she is Lu ZhaoYao, flirting with Li ChenLan.
Liu CangLing is forced to return home to his sect. Lu ZhaoYao continues to be flustered by romantic moments with Li ChenLan but convinces herself that he loves Qin ZhiYan. Jiang Wu targets Sima Rong.
Jiang Wu takes Sima Rong to Mt LingTing and Li ChenLang and Lu ZhaoYao follow - but they get trapped in a deadly illusion spell. ZhaoYao shakes herself out of it but gets sucked into other people's nightmares as she tries to help them.
Lu ZhaoYao makes a deal with Jiang Wu and Li ChenLan finds out. When she and Qin ZhiYan return to the sect, she sneaks into the hall and finds out just how badly injured Li ChenLan is. Sima Rong continues the story for puppet Yue Zhu.
Jiang Wu sends a letter to ZhaoYao and she has ZhiYan respond each time - but ChenLan, even though he's ignoring her, is intercepting them each way. ChenLan's injury isn't healing well and Yuan Jie is keen to take advantage if he can.
Falling for the trap set for her, Qin ZhiYan convinces Lu ZhaoYao to get Li ChenLan and accompany her to Jian Xin sect. On the way ChenLan follows ZhaoYao as she invisibly wanders the city. Qin QianXian is suspicious of Jian Xin sect.
Liu SuRuo's love and obsession are explained a bit as is Qin QianXian's history with ZhaoYao. Li ChenLan accompanies Qin ZhiYan to Jian Xin Sect and they are attacked as the trap is readied. ZhaoYao finds Luo MindXuan's tomb.
The Devil Slayer Formation is initiated. Qin ZhiYao runs into Liu CangLing while Jiang Wu runs into Qin QianXian. Jiang Wu finds out that he was the result of a mistake that Qin QianXian made and shifts his focus to him.
Jian Xin sect has fallen and Liu SuRo calls a Grand Meeting to lay the blame on Li ChenLan. Gu HanGuang is having trouble treating Li ChenLan. Qin ZhiYan warns ZhaoYao to cherish Li ChenLan while she can. Yuan Jie gladly stirs the pot.
Yuan Jie reveals to Lin Ziyu that there are 2 Qin ZhiYans. Lin Ziyu cooperates and promptly arrests them both. A little trip has ZhaoYao flustered and ChenLan blushing. Ah Da is promoted. Jiang Wu wants to figure out which ZhiYan he likes.
Qin ZhiYan tries to master teleportation. Sima Rong visits Qin QianXian but is unable to persuade him. Lu ShiQi is summoned back to Wan Lu Sect. Jiang Wu returns the sword to Liu Su Ruo.
Qin Qianxian is surprised to find out that Sima Rong's predictions are true - his blood is wanted. Sect Leaders choose their stances. Lu ShiQi arrives and makes a little havoc in her Master's name. Jiang Wu sleeps through it all.
Gu HanGuang tries to care for the woman he loves while not revealing their past connection or forging a new one. Lu ShiQi and Qin QianXian try to evade Jiang Wu. Chi TianMing finds the right person to pass on his message to Qin ZhiYan.
ChenLan warns ZhaoYao not to act on her own right before ZhiYan does just that. Gu HanGuang tests a new herb on Li ChenLan's wounds. A golden glow emanates from Mt Feng - triggering ZhaoYao to action.
After making a deal, Li ZhaoYao is able to recover her full power. Luo MingXuan is resurrected but not completely recovered. ZhaoYao has only a limited window to deal with him, if she can.
Qin ZhiYan uses what she has learned to get the guard to help Liu Can Ling. Shen QianJin recalls a small piece or her past with Gu HanGuang and is shocked. ZhaoYao is lambasted by her mother-in-law for actions she can't remember.
Before she leaves Qizhidi, ZhaoYao needs to know what she cannot remember. Li ChenLan is too weak to search for her but isn't giving up. Lu ShiQi doesn't give up on finding a way out of the maze and taking Qin QianXian back to Wan Lu Sect.
Actions have consequences. Both Li ChenLan and Lu ZhaoYao refuse to give up. ZhiYan faces the toll her decision has had on others. Shen QianJin refuses to let someone else make the decision for her. Lin ZiYu makes another choice.
Even as Li ChenLan risks his life and mind with a dangerous spell to find Lu ZhaoYao, she risks her life to be able to return to the land of the living for him. Meanwhile, Luo MingXuan is recovering and a local rebellion starts.
Yuan Jie and Lin Ziyu attack the strongholds of the sect. ZhaoYao returns but cannot use her powers. ZhiYan and CangLing defend Gu HanGuang's place while he treats Shen QianJin's condition. ShiQi vigorously attacks some buns.
ZhaoYao is without her powers, though ChanLan can protect her. Su Yan points out how Wan Lu Sect differs from the rumors. Storytellers weaves tales about Qin Qianxian, Lu ZhaoYao and the ice cave. Qin Qianxian spends time with Lu ShiQi.
ZhaoYao forgives ZhiYan. Liu CangLing leaves to return and rebuild his sect. Jiang Wu hears a rumor then makes a visit to Wan Lu Sect. It clears up some of his confusion but angers and worries ChenLan. ZhaoYao visits Qizhidi unexpectedly.
Li ChenLan finds ZhaoYao in Qizhidi but discovers that she is married. Jing Wu expands demands on Jin Xiu. Luo MingXuan recovers well. Lin Ziyu switches sides. ChenLan and ZhaoYao take refuge from her mother-in-law by visiting Sima Rong.
Lin Ziyu plots to kill Sima Rong. Puppet Yue Zhu finds a drawing and feels upset because the ears are wrong. Sima Rong consults Qin QianXian. Lu ShiQi admires QianXian and is upset when he leaves without telling her.
Jiang Wu leads an attack against Qian Chen Pavilion. Jin Xiu sows chaos by collaborating with Jiang Wu but tucks Tang Yun away so she can't be hurt. Chi TianMing colludes with Lin Ziyu. ChanLan's plans to rehabilitate ZhaoYao are waylaid.
Li ChenLan wants to propose but advice is scarce and complicated. Among many well-wishers are a few dissenting voices. Jiang Wu hears of the wedding and moves up his plans in order to stake a claim on Lu ZhaoYao himself.
A grand wedding is planned and the bride and groom walk down the aisle with most of their friends in attendance. Jiang Wu is determined to circumvent the marriage and take over Wan Lu Sect. His allies abandon him but he moves forward.
Jiang Wu controls Wan Lu Sect and throws Lu ChenLan, Sect lords and leaders and the Dark Guards in jail. He keeps ZhaoYao captive, but her escape frightens ChenLan more than anything else.
Three leaders of the Wan Lu Sect - and two of them in love with the third. Shen Qianjin takes attempts baking but isn't satisfied with the results. Luo MingXuan learns a little more about Jiang He's family secret.
While Li ChenLan plods through the actual management of the Sect, Jiang Wu entertains himself and pursues ZhaoYao. ChenLan has trouble controlling his jealousy. Jiang Wu makes plain his desire to kill ChenLan and possess ZhaoYao himself.
Answering a question in his acerbic manner, Gu HanGuang reveals a secret. Jiang Wu searches for a way to cut the bond between ChenLan and ZhaoYao. Jiang He is coming to the end of his time even as he helps Luo MingXuan.
Jiang Wu's plan backfires when ChenLan's demon essence comes to the fore. Gu Hanguang asks Jiang He for a rare herb but runs into Luo MingXuan. Shen Qianjin makes the perfect cake. Jiang Wu's people openly attack anyone from Wan Lu Sect.
Jiang He takes a daring step in treating Luo MingXuan hoping to extend his own life in the process. Gu HanGuang is trapped in the dungeon and unable to treat his own wound. Rumours and theories fly about who attacked the Xu Zong Sect.
Lin Ziyu meets Luo MingXuan. Jiang Wu plans a trap for Li ChenLan. Gu HanGuang is buried and Shen QianJin grieves. Jin Xiu asks Luo MingXuan to deal with Jiang Wu before he will commit his sect. Li ChenLan goes missing.
Zhu Ji, in Qizhidi, frets knowing that he has forgotten something important. Jiang Wu battles Luo MingXuan. While looking for ChenLan, ZhaoYao joins the battle. Jin Xiu and Tang Yun visit Shen Qianjin.
