Bilko at his best

Bilko is faced by a snobbish local socialite, just back from Paris, who turns down the opportunity to be Doberman's mardi gras queen. Well, Doberman has been to Paris too ("what did I see, I was in a Sherman tank?").

For the honour of the platoon, Bilko has to persuade the reluctant gentry that she wants nothing more than Doberman, that short, glistening ("some would call him greasy") Buddha figure.

Bilko at his most brilliant, devious in his sentimental cause. A number of classic scenes, including Doberman being taught how to talk to a girl (Zimmerman in a wig), and, perhaps the highlight, the Doberman calypso.

In order for you to get any real entertainment value out of watching this episode from TV's "The Phil Silvers Show" you've gotta be willing to cut it some serious slack.

Anyway - As the story goes - When Pvt. Doberman asks a socialite to be his Mardi Gras queen, she laughs and turns him down. Now Ernie Bilko has got to figure out a way to get even with her.

Per the title, Mardi Gras is a carnival the ends the day before Ash Wednesday or Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras in French) that occurs in many cities throughout the world, but is mostly associated with New Orleans. The celebrations and parades feature large floats, large tall masks and people dressed as gods, mythical creatures, fictional characters and real life people.
