Very beautiful hack 'n slash game

"Genji" at first seems to be one of many Japanese hack 'n slash games. Maybe it isn't as challenging as "Devil May Cry 3" or one of the "Onimusha" games. It does however provide fun game play with the most beautiful eye and ear candy that can be created on the playstation 2. Stunning graphics are combined with wonderful and atmospheric music. The story and the cut scenes aren't that special. It is a simple story about good and evil set in a historic Japan. The main characters encounter many foes and have to endure some tests. One of these tests is to train in the Golden Temple. Here they have to prove themselves to the God of Weaponry. In this level you will meet several creatures and gods that seem to be borrowed from Hindu mythology. For example, you'll meet monkeys and Shiva (I know that Japan has been influenced by many religions and cultures, but I do not know the finer points of this influence. The Shiva that is depicted in this game is similar to the one of the Final Fantasy series and is female. Very different from the the original Shiva (highest being depicted as male) from Hindu mythology) Also when one of the monkeys die their spirit immediately transfers to the one who is still alive (A fine example of reincarnation, one of the main believes in Hindu religion!) To me this was one of the nicest events to see and experience. One of the other main reasons to play "Genji" is the "Kamui" system! This is the ability to finish of enemies on the screen with minimal strikes in slow motion! When you get the hang of it you will use it as often as you can since this is one of the coolest, fastest and most satisfying way to get rid of the enemies. The only complaint I have about this game is the length. It is a bit short. Don't get discouraged though. After finishing the game you will unlock several modes and trials that offer more game play. I personally think "Genji" has to be played at least once since it has that extra something that makes it worth while.

GENJI: DAWN OF THE SAMURAI: Mythic Edo

GENJI: DAWN OF THE SAMURAI (2005) is a gorgeous mythic samurai game (for the ps2) featuring supernatural entities, battle monks, and the winding countryside of Edo Japan.

"The hero of this saga is a young man called Yoshitsune Minamoto, a samurai who also possesses an Amahagane. Meanwhile, the clan called the Heishi has conquered most of Japan through supernatural means. These means refer to magical stones called the Amahagane which bring supernatural powers (called the Kamui) to the wearers. Clan conflicts ensue."

Visually, the game was well before its time, impressing players with its storytelling, fighting gameplay, gorgeous visuals, and intriguing premise. Genji: Dawn of the Samurai was a really memorable game.

    Genji: Dawn of a Samurai

this is a PS2 game, about Minamoto Yoshitsune going on a quest to get rid of the Heishi who abuse their power of the Amahagane (a powerful stone with special abilities) and bring upon hard times for the villagers. Yoshitsune is basically the main character in this game and his companion, Benkei. both possess the Amahagane as well, therefore many believe that they'll be the ones to bring down the Heishi. both have very different fighting skills and looks. Yoshitsune is more agile and light, he's much faster and seems to be dancing when he fights but the damage he causes upon the enemy with each hit is little but takes much damage himself if hit. but he moves fast.

on the contrary, Benkei is big, tall and uses clubs and stuff to swing at his opponents. each hit is powerful but he takes a long while to prepare the next blow, as compared to quick Yoshitsune. Benkei doesn't take too damage with each blow he receives. there are 3 chapters to this game, it's considered rather short in my opinion. the final boss fight wasn't as difficult as i expected but after the whole game, Don't stop playing, wait for the credits to finish too! (its such a nice song!!) then you'll have a new feature "Extras", i'll leave it to you to find out the features it has and then a difficult mode will be unlocked. (gee, remember to save your game!)

difficult mode is replaying the whole game over once more but you will not level up at any point, you aren't allowed to buy weapons or stock up on any resources. meaning you will remain at level 1 all the way through. in which i only defeated the final boss when i was level 27. sooo it'll be hard, yes. with your life bar that short, you only have the choice to be careful, defend your self much and you will be able to collect essences of Amahagane from opponents and else where! you will want to! there'll be some more of shukenten's tests and trials as well, a 100 true kills. meaning killing a 100 enemies without taking a hit yourself and you'll get a reward.

it's a game worth trying, it has beautiful graphics. breathtaking, and the colors never ceased to amaze me. and Yoshitsune looks good(: at some points maybe not but he's rather impressively done. it has a nice soundtrack as well. its not very hard but it's entertaining. the opponents tend to keep repeating the same moves over, after awhile you figure out what he/she's gonna do at what time lol. but it's worth a try! (if only it had some sort of love story to it.. hahha)
