"Hour of the Stars", the 20th Century Fox television program showed "Stranger in the Night", from 1966 recently. It was a discovery when it showed recently in the Fox Channel.
In fact, from the beginning, we thought it looked like something we had seen before, and no wonder! This is a remake of "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" made for TV. In it, we are basically taken back to that delightful film, that starred Rex Harrison and Gene Tierney.
The stars are Joan Fontaine and Michael Wilding, who do wonders in the short format. Both actors showed a rare chemistry that suited the film well. Also in this episode Elsa Lanchester played the maid who accompanies her lady to the haunted house by the sea.
This installment of "Hour of the Stars" is an excellent excuse to relive again the terrific story that was used for both formats.
