Confituur

I enjoyed the movie very much. It shows many aspects of daylife in the first world. I have found more things in common that I expected by watching it. Whose is the waltz played along the movie? Is it Austrian or German? Too bad the cable TV companies in my country took almost ten years to put it available for the Brazilians. I'm unpleased, anyway, that the movie namers in my country never miss the chance of changing entirely the original. My god, this time they simply changed "Confituur" for something totally opposite: "shock of classes"...what has it to do with the true story of the film? Unfortunately, this is very common in here. They seems to own the rights of the work, but we know is only stupidity.... In any case, please let me know the name of the author and the name of the music I mentioned above. Thank you all for helping.

If you have seen previous films of this director you should know what to expect: boring, superficial and totally superfluous "cinema". It is a disgrace that this kind of rubbish is made by Belgian tax money.

There is one pro what I could think of: there are not too many movies about older people. Nevertheless they should deserve a better treatment than this.

Lieven Debrauwer is seeking for an audience which is easy to get, disguised as intellectual drama but fails miserably in his attempt.

If someone can tell me why this is worth seeing in the cinema, he's got my respect because to my humble opinion you can watch this sort of trash at daily soap on television.

No doubt about it, Lieven Debrauwer is on of the last Flemish directors (and because he is still 'young', perhaps the last one) that makes movies about conservative (even traditional) Flemish social behavior. That kind of (sometimes narrow-minded) behavior that is typical of elder generations in Flanders. Those generations are fading away (they get old, so eventually pass away), that explains the subject of the movie: a man is fed up with his simple life at home, his wife and his commanding sick sister. He wants to break out of his conservative miserable life and get on to something new. He goes to his sister who has a night club (refers to indecent behavior, so the sister isn't accepted in the family) in the 'city'. There is a cultural change.

I like this kind of movie because it's rather funny to see how the elder (in this movie, who reflect also those in Flanders) still have that sense of standards and values, sometimes that gives ironic situations, but it's especially very honest and true...
